Milescraft 5340 Plug Cutter Set, 3-Piece

These work quite well in a drill press.Don’t be like me and try to hand drill them, it just won’t work - the bit will walk on the wood and when you penetrate it’ll crumble your plug. Slow and methodical on the drill press, don’t force it it you’ll burn the wood. Just let off every few cm to clear the dust and let the bit breath.I really like these after using them correctly.

If you follow directions and use these in a drill press or at minimu in a drill adapted with a front plate, these work fine. Do not buy them with the hope that they will work well in a hand held drill. The opening in the cutter will make the cutter skip arong on the wood and mar the surface around the hole being drilled for the plug. The same occurence when cutting the plug is likely to make the plug slightly smaller then optimum. None of these would be a problem if used as directed with a press or plate .

These are fine. Bought for a specific project and only needed one, but got all three for almost the price of a single. They work as advertised. Nothing fancy, but they're reasonably well machined with no burrs and no runout that I can see. Pleased

That was the question from a young bystander when these were put into action on some maple. Not the sharpest things for that density of hardwood; might work better on pine or other softer varieties, but given the price, I felt I was taking a gamble. It didn't really pay off.

I just had a chance to use these for the first time (snapped a brass screw head off: cored it out, put a plug in place). Work great.

Not sure I like the ejection or cutting blade style. Seems to work alright, but almost certainly requires a drill press. In field work with this is not that great as it tries to wander when starting a cut.

The media could not be loaded.  Su acero al carbobo es de mala calidad, su diseño es adecuado; pero carecen de filo de corte, por lo que queman la madera y sacan tarugos muy burdos y rugosos.Tuve que dedicar más de una hora para afilarlos y darles un mejor ángulo en la boquilla y en los gavilanes de corte, con lo que mejoró su rendimiento, obteniendo tarugos pulidos, más rápido y sin quemar la madera; pero al cabo de pocos cortes disminuyó el filo notoriamente.Se requiere paciencia y bastante cuidado para afilarlos, para no llevarse el escaso margen de corte con el que cuentan, por lo que su vida útil no será prolonga si se utilizan con regular frecuencia.Aunado a ello, tuve que afilarlos con un disco superdelgado de esmeril, para taladro (de 4 1/2" de diámetro y 1/16 de espesor), para poder atacar la boquilla y los dos gavilanes de corte, de difícil acceso.Los compré por urgencia, pero en definitiva recomiendo conseguir clavacotes con gavilanes de tungsteno (que aunque no los he visto en Amazon, se pueden conseguir en tiendas de herramientas donde venden fresas para router).Se supone que solo deben usarse en taladro de banco; pero haciendo un leve orificio guía, con una broca de su mismo diámetro externo, pueden utilizarse con taladro manual, sin mayor problema (como lo muestro en el video).

Para ser acero de alta velocidad, se calientan mucho. Pero, la relación calidad precio es buena, ya que no son de carburo.

aunque lo he utilizado poco, me ha resultado una herramienta muy útil para un mejor trabajo en carpintería.

Quema mucho la madera, la verdad si no la recomiendo...
