The best of the Midnight series.
I'm sure people are going to disagree with me that this is the best of the series. Everybody likes the Midnight Man, I mean who wouldn't? But, the first book was a bit thin on plot. The second book, Midnight Run was very good and developed the characters more, but I liked Bud a lot more than I liked Claire. This book brings back the Midnight Man, John and his wife, Suzanne (and that was fun to find out they were now married) and we also got more of Bud and Claire's story and how that plays out. But, this book, Midnight Angel has two really interesting lead characters, the super alpha male, Douglas and the sweet and talented, Allegra. What makes this story so different from the others is that the characters have physical flaws. Douglas is "ugly." He looks like a thug and is used to the looks he gets from frightened people. Allegra who sings like an angel and plays the harp is blind. A perfect set up. She falls in love with his voice, his kindness, his strong godlike body. Of course, in truth Douglas is a beautiful soul and I fell in love with him too.The story is about their love affair and as in all the Midnight books, Douglas falls fast and hard. I did appreciate the fact the Rice changed up the sex scenes a bit and got a little more imaginative. I mean, the guy just jumping and humping was getting a little old. Douglas also has to help Allegra through the trauma of what caused her blindness and he does this protectively and lovingly. He gets the bad guy in the end and Allegra... well, you just have to read it to find out if she remains blind. It's worth it to do that. (By the way, there is a short novella follow-up to this book called Midnight Shadows that is very good. It's only 99 cents on kindle and if you were as in love with this couple as I was, it was nice to find out how they were doing!)

Heartachingly beautiful story
This is my favorite of the three books in the Midnight trilogy. The story of two damaged people finding themselves and each other and love is so well built. Once again we've got an overbearing alpha male who gets blindsided by love. I love the Beauty and the Beast twist to this story. Douglas is evidently so bad looking that Suzanne and Claire can't even be subtle or polite. Which makes it all that much sweeter that beautiful and blind Allegra falls for him. She brings out feelings he never thought he'd have and he is the recipient of feelings he never thought he'd get.The suspense part of the story is really secondary and not a lot of time is really spent fully developing it...it's almost like an afterthought. Slightly disappointing but the rest of the story is so good that it is easily overlooked. The big crisis doesn't even come until the book is nearly over.We get more information on the characters from books 1 & 2 which keeps the family vibe going. I'm hoping it continues in the next Midnight series.

WOW a geat FIVE STAR READ
*** I received a copy of this book in exchange for a honest review******This book is another five star read. This book is about Allegra and Senior Chief Douglas Kowalski. Douglas attends a event with Midnight and his wife, there he meets Allegra he is drawn to her. Well lets just say, there is action when the event gets robbed Douglas protects Allegra, when all is said and done he takes her home. Allegra is blind, but that doesn't stop her from doing normal things. I love her as well...Douglas is a very sweet man, he thinks he is ugly because he got scars and stuff when he was in the Navy SEALS, even though he is a Huge ALPHA and you can't help but love him....He keeps Allegra safe, and lets just say sparks fly between them. Some one is out to get her and Douglas being the ALPHA male keeps her safe. There is allot of action very HOT and Steamy SEX. But this is a true love story. You will see Midnight, BUD, Claire, Suzanne in this book....Do yourself a favor and get this amazing book... LOVED it, want to give it more then five stars.

Ugly?? Not hardly.
Doug Kowalski, former Navy SEAL is scarred, ugly and huge. He's a partner with John Huntington, his former SEAL teammate. They run a very successfull security outfit.Kowalski is also a music lover. Music of all kinds.Kowalski is also one very capable guy when it comes to survival.Kowalski and his partner are at a gala where Huntington's wife has designed the jewelry cases for Russian Jewels that are on display. Millions of dollars worth of jewels. Both Kowalski and Huntington are put out because John's wife wouldn't let them carry guns. They both feel naked as hell.As Kowalski is standing there he hears harp music. He immediately heads over and beholds one beautiful lady. The harpest. Allegra Ennis is both beautiful and very talented. Kowalski is mesmerized by her music. All of a sudden armed men appear. Kowalski grabs Allegra and goes under a table with her. The table is covered with cloth that reachs the ground. She will be safe there. Kowalski tells her to stay put.Kowalski then looks out to see exactly where everyone is and what the hells going on. He knows John will be kicking ass especially since one of the dirtbags has a gun to his wifes head. Kowalski will be there to assist. So begins one damned good read.We have heavenly music, a killer, a blind girl with memory issues, friends, enemies and two people getting it right. Five Stars.

Loved it!
I loved Douglas and Allegra. To everyone else Kowalski is a severe and frightening looking monster of a man but to Allegra she only sees who Douglas truly is. As for Douglas, he doesn't see Allegra as a helpless invalid but as a desirable woman and I loved the intense chemistry between these two characters. I only wish the story had taken place over a longer period of time to make it a little more realistic.
