Emergency Leak Stop Tools. Remembering as a plumber how water leaks caused so much damage, and how difficult it was to react quickly controlling a leak if a copper fitting hadn't completely soldered. The time it took to attach a hose pipe and drain the pipe work, took too long, and the damage was already done. After checking what products were available in the market place, we confirmed there was a lack of easy-quick to use products that covered various pipe sizes 10, 15 and 22 mm (3/8, 1/2, 3/4 inch) that was reusable for all Tradesmen and DIY enthusiasts. We designed a product that anyone can use quickly and simply, that seals leaking pipes or soldered fittings in seconds, you don't need any other tools to fit one and it can be used over and over again. It is with pleasure that we Introduce you to Leak Mate a Unique product launched in June 2011 that has been received with great enthusiasm via the Professional and Domestic market throughout the UK, Leak Mate is the only reusable Tool specifically designed to stop leaks in seconds, saving inconvenience, expensive call out charges and Insurance claims. The tool is supplied with reusable 10 15 and 22 mm (3/8, 1/2, 3/4 inch) seals that have a recessed step molded into every seal to fit soldered copper fittings. Leak Mate also seals split and holed pipes whether plastic, copper or lead. leak-mate-wins-top-product-2011-327In 2011 Leak Mate was given a top product award by PHPI, Designed to meet the needs of tradesmen involved with plumbing installation. Didn't work for me, but might work for most
First of all, this is MISLABELED as of this date - the product information says it is for 3/8, 1/2, and 1/4" fittings; it should state "and 3/4" (if you click on the image that shows the reverse of the package and zoom in you'll see that this is exactly what it says on the package, it's the Amazon description that is wrong). Also be aware that when they say 1/2" they mean a pipe that is not at all 1/2", it's another one of those crazy "National Pipe" dimensions, so measure your pipe and Google "National Pipe OD" to make sure you really have a 3/8 or a 1/2 or a 3/4 pipe. Yeah, it drives me crazy, too.Anyway, my situation was that I had a pipe fitted into a union that had never been soldered, and it had rusted internally so much that I couldn't get a good solder joint. Unfortunately that left me with a pipe with a bit of solder adhered to the bottom, ruining its perfectly circular profile; and the LeakMate needs a perfect circle. To be specific, the clamp comes with several rubber sleeve inserts to adopt it to different pipe sizes, and these sleeves have a small step-down to match the corresponding pipe union. This step-down has to fit over the place where the pipe enters the union EXACTLY (at least on the 3/4", which being the largest has the least amount of rubber; the sleeves for the smaller pipe sizes have a lot more rubber so they might be more forgiving). So all I accomplished was to slow, but not stop, the leak, which I finally fixed using the excellent Rectorseal pipe repair kit (also from Amazon - do a search).Nonetheless, I am keeping the LeakMate because I can see that it might be a lifesaver some day. You should not consider the LeakMate as in any way a permanent fix but rather something to "mostly" fix a problem pending a permanent solution. I have to subtract a star because it is, as of this date, mislabeled; and another star because it did not work for me (and my situation is surely not unique). But as something to have in your toolbox for a rainy day - or at least a leaky day - it seems like a good thing to have.

Like others have mentioned will not work well on any ...
Definitely nicer than my hose clamp piece of rubber option. Like others have mentioned will not work well on any run that is tight to another surface, which is how the majority of pipes will be run.

need a larger rubber insert for my leak
Didn't work on my copper pipe & coupling leak. LeakMate didn't come with a correct size rubber insert for my problem. I'm sure it would work on copper pipe alone without a coupling.

has worked well so

Didn't work at tee hub for me
Did not work for a leak at a hub. Ended up cutting out the tee and fixing with Sharkbite slip couplings and tee. Expensive for a maybe.
