Awesome product, simple execution, very effective, and high quality components!
Great product, very effective, and high quality components. As a few others have noted, this is much higher quality components (metals used, grade of hardware, nice powdercoat finish, thickness of plate) than the cheap bar clamps at the hardware store. This won't rust and can take some serious torque on the nuts. Now my hitch is nice and quiet. Plus, it gives me about an extra 1/4" of ball height (due to the way it holds the draw bar up tight against the receiver). I need as much height as I can get as I'm towing with a Honda Accord.I'm using this on a 1 1/4" class 1 receiver so the threads are too long and drug a few times when I didn't angle enough climbing my steep driveway. No problem, I trimmed the extra ~1" off of each and it's a perfect fit.I love this so much that I just bought another to have as a spare in case I ever need to use a 2" higher class receiver. :-)

Awesome product for a great price!!
This little device did exactly what i was hoping it would do; tighten and secure my 2" receiver bar. It now sits nice and solid with virtually no movement horizontally or vertically. One note when installing it. most receiver hitches have some type of chain loop for the breakaway chains on the towed vehicle. On my hitch this is a flat plate with two holes in it, see the first photo. This plate is just thick enough to screw up the install of this hitch tightener. Make "sure" the flat part of the hitch tightener is sitting flat on the receiver lip only and not on that chain plate (photos 2 & 3) or you'll never get the hitch bar to tighten up, no matter how hard your torque down on the nuts. The angled portion of the hitch tightener appears to be designed to make up for the added thickness of the lip on the receiver end. However on my vehicle that chain plate is actually a fraction thicker than the lip and this is just enough to mess things up. Once i figured this out it was a piece of cake and worked liked a charm. The correct install is shown in the last photo......this is great product. One other reason i chose this unit are the direction of the bolts, they point down. A little more hassle to install but the units that have the bolts pointing up would have hit the underside of my bumper and tore it up (2008 Tahoe). Hope these tips help.

Excellent!
We purchased this to stabilize a cheap cargo basket on the back of our motorhome’s hitch receiver, for a trip from Virginia to Alaska and back over one month. Without the stabilizer, the cargo basket flopped around. With the stabilizer, it was very secure and didn’t move at all. We used in an all sorts of conditions. It came into contact with all sorts of weather, dust, gravel, and the occasional vehicle power washing. Still looks like new and works great. Highly recommend.

Eliminates Hitch Rattle
It took a minute to get it positioned correctly, but once installed it works extremely well. I wouldn’t pull a trailer without one now. I also use it on my cargo carrier, and it completely stops the hitch from rattling. Simple device that makes a big difference.

Hitch Tightener
Perfect. I popped this on my tow bar, tightened it down, no rattle. No more worries with someone pulling the pin and stealing my hitch either. Perfect!

I'm using this with an aluminum hitch and it works great! You need to remember that you are holding ...
This is a VERY heavy duty hitch stabilizer. The black plate is 1/4" steel and the U-bolt is well formed and heavy duty. Put a drop or two of 3-in-1 oil on each thread before bolting it on as per instructions (any light oil will do). I'm using this with an aluminum hitch and it works great! You need to remember that you are holding the ball hitch DOWN against the bottom of the receiver. This is important if you are hauling anything with a significant tongue weight (like a boat or heavy trailer). If you install it opposite, so the ball hitch is being held UP against the top of the receiver and you are carrying a significant load (bikes on a bike rack is not a significant load...I'm talking 400+ pounds of tongue weight or more) then I think you're going to have issues. Also, you don't need to tighten the nuts like a gorilla! Do not put them on with pneumatic tools - you run a big risk of over-tightening. If you are concerned about the nuts coming loose then you could a) add another nut to bind the two nuts together, b) add a nylon stop-nut, c) put a small dab of silicone caulk on the bottom of the threads after you put the nut on (would keep the nut from falling off if it came loose). Really, you should be checking your hitch every time you stop anyway. This thing is super heavy duty and I look forward to using it when pulling my 4,500 pound boat/trailer and my covered 2-place snowmobile trailer. Used it on one short trip so far and it worked perfectly!

Well worth the investment
I purchase the StowAway Hitch Tightener to work with the CURT Cargo Carrier which I was ordering a the same time.(My vehicle - 2015 Chevy Tahoe - Factory tow package)This will be my first time ever using a cargo / trailer hitch so I really wasn't familiar with a lot of the terms and potential issues that were being talked about in reviews and Q&A.In on of the reviews a person recommended this hitch tightener. After installing the cargo basket I tried to wiggle and bounce the cargo basket and just like the review indicated there was a lot of play . . a lot more then I would want going across this country on Interstate 80 at 75mph.I installed this hitch tightener as instructed with no problem. I bounced tested it in my garage and also on the road . . . a dramatic improvement . . Very easy to install and also to take off when through with the cargo basket / or trailer.Very good heavy duty quality.PS - As you might have noticed from the picture I also bought and installed a locking hitch pin. With the cargo basket I bought being very light I felt it was very vulnerable to possible theft so that is the reason for the purchase. Keep in mind and you might see this that if a professional wants to steal your carrier or trailer they can . . A locking pin will stop the random theft, deter, delay or even draw attention to a theft in progress . .

A great product that removes the play and bounce from my hitch mounted devices.
I purchased a truck bed extender but the fit was a bit loose and sloppy and I wanted it tight where it didn't bounce around, this hitch tightener took care of the problem easily and quickly.I used this on a 2" hitch and it tightened things right up. No more up and down bounce or sway, the connection is tight and secure. For the price, it worked amazingly well. I don't leave it on my truck for long periods of time. I bought it to use with my truck bed extender but have used it with a bike rack and my hitch cargo carrier, worked great with everything.Easy to install in a few minutes and I store it in my truck console so it's ready to go when I need it.My only regret is not buying one of these sooner.

Funciona muy bien
Desde el momento que lo he usado, el rack de bicicletas dejo de vibrar; solo lo he tenido que ajustar 1 vez. Muy recomendable si lo que buscas es reducir la vibración / ruido.

Simple, cheap (relatively) and extremely effective.
This took about 5 minutes to install, I installed mine "upside down" with the threads pointing up so it did not reduce ground clearance.I'm using:2009 Honda Fit HatchU-Haul Hitch Class 1Yakima 5 bike rackThe tightener completely removed all the wobble due to a loose connection between receiver and rack.Keep in mind, that there still is a very slight wobble from the bike rack itself as it has several connection points where it's bolted together. This wobble is very minor compared to what happens if the hitch is loose.Overall, I would buy this again and would recommend it to everyone with this issue.

Skeptical at first but it works like a charm
Skeptical at first but it works like a charm. I have a Smittybilt beaver step that weights a ton plugged into my hitch. Like all hitch accessories, it's a little loose. Going over bumps, the heavy beaver step would send a jolt through my car. The hitch tightener fixed that right up. Well made, quality parts and the beaver step is not rock solid in its hitch. If anything could be improved on the hitch tightener, I'd say the price, it's a little steep for a U-bolt and powder coated plate but works like a charm and great quality.
