Despite my initial concern that the product's sticker seal had already been opened, I was very happy to find that all the pens were in the box with no duplicates or missing colors. As stated in many of the other reviews, the holder is flimsy and the pens come out the sides easily; I can't imagine I will use it for long before transferring them to another container. That being said, I didn't purchase this set for the plastic holder, and have nothing but praise for the pens themselves.I thoroughly (okay, maybe obsessively) research art supplies before I buy them, and these have been on my list to get for a while. When there was a price drop, I jumped at the chance and am so excited to add them to my collection. To those who are uncertain whether or not they want to spend the money, if you can afford it (or wait and save and get them on sale), DO IT! Whether for serious artwork or just for coloring books, these are a joy to use.In an era of glitter/metallic/neon colors, these pens provide an oasis of more traditional and natural colors. My personal taste runs on the realistic side, so while small doses of sparkle and shine can add beautiful touches to artwork, I have been increasingly irritated in the seemingly endless pen and marker sets composed almost exclusively of flourescents and glitter colors. Earth tones, muted colors, and pastels are a rarity, and this set delivers them all. Whether you want neutral colors for portraits, natural colors for landscapes, or bright and pastel colors for whimsical pieces, you will find them here.The color range is amazing, and I am especially pleased with the amount of pale colors. I really love that there is no darkening or lines visible if you overlap or apply two layers; the light colors remain light. With one or two exceptions, the pens are true to their cap colors (you have no idea how many of my other marker sets have color guides taped on them to show their real color), and the few exceptions aren't far off.The brush tip is firm, yet flexible, and there aren't scraggly fibers or fuzzies on the brush or the nub end. The brush is great for fine lines or thick strokes, depending on the pressure applied. I am also very happy with the size of the bullet-shaped tip, they are larger than I was expecting. I thought they would be closer to my Staedtler Fineliners (not that I don't love them too, they serve their purpose), but the Tombows are large enough that you can color with them without taking a ridiculously long time (sorry fineliners!) and still fit in small spaces. (Although if you need super-fine detailing you are probably better off with light pressure on the brush tip.)So to wrap up, this is a great marker set, just for basic coloring, or all the other cool blending effects (oh yea, there's a blending pen!) they are able to do that a lot of other brands can't. I highly recommend them, they are worth the money, and I can't wait to put them to use!

I've used these markers for 20 years, mostly for coloring adult-complexity coloring books & detailed coloring posters. My 1st set was the 72 marker/colors set, which lasted me 15 years--didn't use them the 1st 5 years, colors stayed intense throughout & didn't start running out of ink until last year. I've been trying to find replacements for my 72-color set, but apparently Tombow doesn't make that one anymore, nor the set with ALL of their colors (think it was 140?) that I was saving up to get. Individual color replacements are much more expensive than buying these sets! I've searched everywhere online & this exact same set goes for between $150-$279 every where else, but Amazon has them for under one hundred eighteen dollars! Wow! I have to buy them before the price goes up or they stop making this set too.The colors are opaque (thickly colored, not transparent), usually don't bleed through (depends on the paper or medium used), intense & bright, true to cap colors & widely varied in shades--no repeat colors! The brush top works exactly like a paintbrush, more like the Chinese calligraphy brushes--from fine haired at tip to bulbous headed at top & spreads like a brush--than regular square tipped paint brushes. The reverse end is a super fine tipped out-liner or detail marker tip, and both tip ends never lose shape nor get worn out after years of use. These are easy to grip, same size as a long pen & caps click onto the unused end so they won't get lost, and with colored caps on both ends, they won't get mixed up either. The barrels include color numbers & a small color block for matching if one does somehow mix up the markers with both caps removed. Obviously these are superior quality for the price--the cheap sets run out quick, have see-thru color & just do not compare in any way to these. I highly recommend Tombow Dual-ended brush markers for uses from professional to therapeutic, adult to young teens, business & craft uses. You may become hooked on them as I am, nothing else even comes close to this quality or longevity--how many sets of the others would you have to buy over 10 years? None have all the color variety as Tombow set does. BEST deal price at amazon, check for yourself from a google search & Towbow retails these for $279! Snap these up & surprise your artist's for xmas, believe me, the appreciation for the gift will last for YEARS :-)UPDATE: I received my order of the 96 marker set & the marker cardboard box has damaged corners, was open with markers loose in box, did NOT come with the plastic base to hold the markers as is shown in photo, and the package is very faded--they look either used or like they sat on a shelf in the sun for at least a decade, so I'm concerned the colors won't be as lasting or intense as they should be. The product needs to state that the markers DON'T come with the holder shown in the photo, so if you don't own a marker case from Tombow for these, there's nothing to organize or hold them upright for use. Tombow generally always includes the base holder, so this must be a refill package and should state so clearly in description--though this one does NOT. I will have to come back & update this after using a few of them to see if my concerns on the used & returned, or aged appearance of these markers, bears out or not. I stand by my original review of Tombow markers as the best quality, but I don't believe these came from the manufacturer since they would have been fresh & protected from sun if so.UPDATE 2012: Amazon sent me a replacement box & I shipped back the original package of markers, the replacement came with the stand, and these DO come with a stand but somehow I had received a box without the stand, so if you were to order and have same experience, they WILL ship you out a stand for these markers. It fits right in the same box, which is why the original box had loose markers and dented ends, since it wasn't packaged correctly--the stand takes up the empty space and makes it sturdy and protected. Also these markers are still going strong, very intense colors, so I'd recommend this deal highly.

6/25/20 Update: After getting tired of reassembling the rack and chasing down and returning the scattered pens to their holes after every cat encounter (and there are a lot of cat encounters on my desk), I superglued the rack together about a year ago. Pens, rack, cats, and I have all been happy since.6/10/15 Original review: This is a very nice pen set for crafting or coloring. It has a nice range of colors without duplicating any of them. The stand is surprisingly sturdy and holds the pens nicely, ready for use. The stand just pushes together without any sort of fasteners, but I haven't had any problem with it falling apart. If you had to move it about often, you might want to glue it together for your peace of mind.While this set is quite expensive, it is a quality product and you can order replacement pens individually, as needed, if you use up some of the more frequently used colors. The individual pens are $3.19 each on Tombow's website vs. $1.45 each in this set, but that beats having to buy a whole new set when a few of the pens run out of ink, as you have to with some of the less expensive pen sets. Also, Tombow has a chart on their website showing all of the colors. If you click on each color, it will give you the color name and number.I did have a problem with the first set that I ordered. Firstly, the box was coming apart and some of the pens were sticking out of the damaged bottom. I was concerned that some might have fallen out of the carton at the warehouse, so I counted them. Fortunately, all 96 were there. Secondly, the caps on half or more of the pens were loose; a couple were off in the box and others came off in my hand when I tried to pick the pens out of the box. Thirdly, the ink in some of the pens was dried out (possibly due to the loose caps? I can't say, as I went through and tightened all of the caps before I went back through and tried out all of the pens.).I contacted Amazon immediately and they shipped another set to me along with providing a return UPS shipping label. I received the replacement shipment very promptly. The new box was in good shape, all of the caps were on tight and the ink in all of the pens came out nicely.Overall, I'm very happy with both the pen set and with Amazon's handling of the problem I encountered. I wouldn't hesitate to order another set of these pens if I needed them.

I really, really like these markers. They are great for what I use them for, which is just coloring and drawing. The range of colors is fantastic, and they seem to be lasting pretty well (I've had them for about 6-1/2 months). I would deduct 1/2 star for the quality of the nylon tips...some of my markers that I use the most frequently have gotten to be very fuzzy at the end, which is most disappointing. One marker I was able to sort of "wipe" the end with a paper towel and most of the fuzziness came off, but two others are still very fuzzy. It makes it very difficult to color precise, tiny spaces, which is what I do. However, my overall experience has been very positive.One of my favorite things about this set of markers is the range of pink-red colors. Pink is my favorite color. I'm like Julia Roberts in Steel Magnolias - "Pink is mah signature color." lol. So, I am very very pleased when there are tons of pinks in a set of markers, and boy, does this set deliver. There is also a nice mix of other colors - lots of nice greens and blues with plenty of neutral browns and greys to mix things up.These markers mix pretty well in my opinion, I am no professional by any means, but these markers make it pretty easy to blend and shade. If you use them carefully, you can control the amount of ink by passing the marker 1, 2, or even 3 times over a certain area. Passing it once yields a very bright, translucent version of the color; 2 times it is slightly darker; 3 passes makes the color quite deep and saturated. It is nice - you can have color contrast from one section to the next with the same marker just by controlling how many times you layer the strokes.I've attached some of my favorite drawings I've colored with these markers. I hope they help you make a decision about these markers.oh, p.s., I hated the stand at first. I got so frustrated because it fell apart every day and messed up my organization. SO...I glued that sucker with some tacky glue, and it works perfectly now. So if it frustrates you, put some tacky glue in the wells where the stand legs go, assemble the stand, and weight it down with a heavy book. Wait about 24 hours, and you shouldn't have trouble out of the stand ever again!

I was a little hesitant on some of the reviews that showed opened/used/dried/frayed markers, but it was such a good deal and those reviews are almost 2 years old. I figured I’d give it a shot, fully prepared I had a chance of going through the return process. I was also nervous because it’s been in the 90s here and I was worried the markers would be affected.My box arrived sealed, but had some signs of light shelf wear. Definitely warm from the heat but quickly cooled to room temp. The stand came in its own separate box within the main box, and took a few seconds to assemble. I put all the markers in & counted to make sure all were there - they were and there are an exact # of slots in the stand. Knowing Tombow has at least 12 new colors not in this set and will prob will continue to make more, it would be nice if they had a few extra slots in the stand. Again, not a deal breaker.I swatched the markers with both tips, just to check for any issues. None! Every color is as how it should be - no issues with the nibs either.I’m newer to the marker world, and I did some research to find a mid-range item. I’m really, really happy with this brand AND this price - $121 for this set is a steal, considering the chain craft stores sell these markers individually for close to $4 each or a set of 10 for $27, and if you buy all the 10pc sets, you don’t really get a complete set and you end up with multiple duplicates. I had started with the 10pc sets, even only sale I had spent over $60 and realized I only had a third of the collection with duplicates already. I returned those sets to the craft stores and purchased this, and the 12 new colors from another supplier.I will definitely keep an eye out for any signs of not normal wear & tear but so far, so good. If you’re on the fence, give it a shot; it worked out for me

This is my first marker pen set that didn't come from a Crayola box. I wanted something similar to copic markers for coloring but didn't want to pay $6+ per maker, so I decided to go with this Tombow set as the best value with good ratings. I wasn't disappointed. The colors and markers are great - I will say that the markers are often darker then then caps and some produce different colors than expected, so I always use a scrap piece to test the color before using. I mainly use the brush end instead of the pointed end, but both work well. They layer well, but you have to be careful not to overwork certain types of paper. They seem to blend just OK, but I've only tried a few times and need more practice. Depending on paper thickness and quality, they can bleed through a bit if you layer on thickly and if you don't let the paper dry enough before adding shading.Like many of the other reviewers, I didn't like the stand - it was too easy to knock the markers out of place and the stand was wobbly. I ended up putting them in a letter holder so I could easily grab and go. I haven't had any markers dry out yet and I've been using them pretty heavily for a few months. Overall, I really like these and will continue to use them for my coloring projects.

I have been using watercolor pens, Uchida Brands, since 2003, but this brand knocks it out of the park with such intense colors. They are easy to use, have no odor and the variety of blues, greens and purples are just beautiful and vibrant. The reds, Warm Red 885, Red 905, Scarlet 925 unfortunately have a more orange look than red. The other reds included in this set are vivid and bright. Very lovely actually. Of the 108 colors sold by Tombow, this set includes 96 with one being a colorless blender. I ordered the other 12 colors individually from another retailer as they were cheaper than purchasing the Vintage and Candy sets on Amazon. I chose this set after purchasing a single pen,Turquoise, to use on a painting I was working on. The color blew me away. I knew I had to get this set and the other colors to equal the 108 colors they offer. They are simple to use, so beginners will love them as well as advanced artists. I saw some reviews say some of the brush ends were frayed, luckily I only found one that was slightly separated at the brush ends. It was no big deal as I used a tissue to press the brush tip back together. As for the scratching sound, that to me was fine. It means the brush tips are pressed very close and they work great. I don't know about lettering as I usually do Pointalizim artwork. I would definitely recommend this set. It is worth the money. I will not be using the desk stand for these pens as they need to lay horizontally to prevent drying. A hard learned lesson I will not make twice. Lol. If you buy them I recommend a pencil case that can hold all of the pens. There are many sold here on Amazon.

Whilst this product arrived very promptly, the packaging came opened.This could have been an honest mistake, but quite unlikely, seeing as it was opened neatly along all 3 of the tear lines.One would also not know for sure if any of the pens had been used and put back, simply because there would be no way of verifying.As this was meant to be a gift, I will now have to look at something else to purchase.

I absolutely love these Brush pens! I use Copic Markers primarily for the work I do, but often need watercolor effects for certain designs and while I do use watercolor paint, it can be a bit harder to use for small pieces. I have been using the Tombow pens for two weeks now for my small pieces and they are fantastic. I use them on Fabriano Hot Press Watercolor paper as it has a silky finish which makes the watercolor pens almost look like Copics. Then I smooth everything out with water so i can get the watercolor look and it has been working amazing well. The colours are bright and luscious and I'm having a lot of fun. I know my application might be a little different than what other people might be using them for but they are versatile pens and fun to play with. I bought the 96 color set.

Je les ai reçu récemment et je les adore déjà ! Les couleurs sont belles et lumineuses, la pointe pinceau (la seule que j'utilise) glisse toute seule sur le papier, c'est vraiment très agréable à utiliser !Je les utilise pour du coloriage anti stress, j'avais besoin de beaucoup de couleurs et là je peux dire que je suis servie !J'ai également des Faber Castell Pitt mais je préfère largement les Tombow !!! Je ne regrette pas du tout mon achat :)
