Tealyra - Imperial Gyokuro Genmaicha - Japanese Loose Leaf Tea - Gen Mai Cha Green Tea with Brown Roasted Rice - Caffeine Level Low - 100g (3.5-ounce)

I've reordered this product a couple times because I keep it around. It's a tasty green tea that's distinctive enough to be interesting while not getting boring. Slight nutty flavor because of the toasted rice. Very pleasant. Lower caffeine than some green teas. If you're brewing this properly, with ~175°F water for 2 minutes, then you're gonna get a good cup of green tea. If you genuinely like the taste of green tea then this is a nice option to keep around.

I don't have much to compare to, being an avid tea bag drinker.... But after reading reviews I think this tea comes down to personal taste. I love green tea, but this just tastes authentic, if that makes sense. I think it's all in how you brew it. I did my first brew with water at a lower temp than boiling and steeped for under two minutes. It was very green tasting, but far from bitter, and did have a nutty flavor to it due to the genmaicha. My second brew of the same tsp of leaves was just as strong and the same flavoring. I added a small bit of honey, but it doesn't necessarily need it if you don't want the extra sweetness added to. I really enjoyed it and with all the health benefits, I would definitely purchase this again. I may try other brands to compare, but this is a very lovely tea. A little goes a long way. Start small, I made one cup, then half a cup all with the same leaves. I've read you can do up to 4 steeps, but I couldn't hold anymore in, as it filled me up.

Genmaicha is possibly my favorite casual green tea variety - the toasted rice along with vegetal notes form steamed green tea is really delicious and is great either hot or cold. This particular source is decent (although not mind-blowing - but this is Amazon so what did you expect) and the brew has decent green and gold color when brewed. Flavor is clean and delicate but not particularly strong unless you brew fairly concentrated.

I am now purchasing my second package of this tea. I think they call it popcorn tea.. but not sure about that. I watched a video on YouTube some while ago, because I was searching for the right tea to replace my coffee addiction. I have tasted many types of teas over the past year and this is by far the best. It is not strong, bitter or medicinal tasting (like some teas can be). In fact, I was searching for the type of green tea you get at Asian restaurants -because it was always just mild tasting and soothing.. and always tasty. I love this tea and would recommend it for someone trying to move to a healthier drink than coffee, but still want something hot to drink during the day. Plus I think because it is green tea, there are health benefits as well.

I've not tried other teas by Tealyra, but I'm now on my second order of their Genmaicha. I've had a lot of loose leaf tea in my life, and the product by Tealyra is superb in that -- even for a green tea -- the leaves appear to have been selectively harvested, dried, rolled, and packaged by hand. Could be wrong on that, but my point is that it's apparent that very careful attention has gone into this product; the brown rice is roasted perfectly and there's very little 'shake' in the bag such as leaf or roasted rice dust. High quality product, and if brewed according to instructions, then this tea will pair well with snacks such as dried figs, dates, and/or dark chocolate.

I was looking for a Japanese green tea to try out and should've looked more into this type before purchasing. I must say I drink a lot of tea, of many varieties, but had never tried gyokuro before. I have been drinking a lot of dark puerh tea recently and was looking to try something different. Oh man, it's very different indeed. The first pot I brewed like I normally would with green tea. I had the water temp down to about 170 and had out in about 4-5 grams of tea into my gaiwan. I steeped for about 30-40 seconds on the first round. The flavor was horrid. Extremely bitter and a dash of rotting corpse. I was bewildered. I tried cooler water and a faster steep, it was a little better but nowhere near my liking. After doing some more research, I discovered some proper ways to brew gyokuro and gave it another attempt. The results were much better. Very savory and brothy flavor, something akin to a vegetable-chicken broth. No rotting corpse this time. It's still not really my cup of tea, but there are some who really enjoy the flavor. To each their own. I'll stick with my ripe pu'erh teas for a while though.

It’s a bit pricey, but really worth it. Love the aroma and taste.
