Play Trumpet Today! Beginner's Pack: Book/CD/DVD Pack

Play Along CD
I am teaching my grandson, 9 years old, to play trumpet. However, he is in Minnesota and I am in Colorado. Our lessons are done online with Google Meetings. I purchased two of these "Play Trumpet Today!" sets, one for him and one for me. We can literally be "on the same page!" The DVD included has good instructions on how to care for the instrument, how to hold it, and how to produce your first notes. The book has music for many familiar tunes like "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" and "Jingle Bells." The student can play along with the CD track for each tune. This is especially helpful for my grandson to practice when I am not there online. Before I found this set we struggled but now he can play many songs and is excited about learning more.

Very Simplistic
I never considered "Gently twist the mouthpiece into the mouthpiece reciever," to be instructions for trumpet assembly before. I have been away from playing for 10 years and thought this might be a good book to help me get reaquainted with the horn. I was wrong...this book is VERY VERY simplistic. If you are an absolute beginner, who has never even handled a trumpet and does not know anyone who plays trumpet, then get this book. If there is ANYONE that you can ask questions, who reads music or plays trumpet, then you can skip this book. Get something a little more complicated and just ask questions. If you are going to be taking lessons DEFINITELY do not buy this package. You will learn more during the first half-hour of your first lesson.

Perfect for Beginners
I hadn't played a trumpet for over sixty years. So, I didn't think I could pick up a horn and start where I left off.Instead, I made the wise decision to purchase this package. The DVD was perfect in getting me started again.I didn't play the CD, which follows each exercise, using a CD player. I brought the CD into iTunes, which made using it very easy. I'm now up to Track 43 and, while I still have a long way to go for an eighty-year-old, I feel I'm getting there one day at a time.Highly recommended (and worth the small amount Amazon is asking).

WELL, YOU COULD HAVE FOOLED ME!
It's an O.K. product, but the Title is misleading. Unless you are an Intermediate at a minimum, there's a lot missing. The premise of the packet is that the discs will lead you to self teaching, but some basic training is, first, required. Also the student must have a good ear for 'pitch.' The discs, basically, use a piano accompaniment. There is no trumpet sound to imitate, so a beginner is lost in the woods without a compass. I'm sure that once the student can run a scale without 'hunting and peckin' ' the studies will be beneficial. Additionally, I have not found any definitive Care and Maintenance instructions, herein, except for a cursory statement as to a need for such. Well, 'How To' would be nice! I found the best bet for that is "To Google It," Care and Maintenance, that is. Search the links - a couple are to the point and, verbally, lend some great tips.Back to the product - What it contains is priced right and after the student gains some confidence, the practice studies will make he/she (one or the other, or 'What the Hell' - both) a better player down the road. I think that it is that I expected more from the Hal Leonard stable of music and instructions.

Great for Beginners
My son began private lessons two months ago. His instructor took a look at this book and decided it was better than what he had, so they started using it. The book is very easy to follow and my son learned his notes in no time at all. They are already about 2/3 of the way through the book and it gets more difficult as they go on. Purchasing the second book if I can find it!

Close but no cigar for now...needs a minor revision, but the result would be major. Seriously
Okay, you get what you pay for and this didn't cost me much. Funny thing is the quality would have shot up exponentially as far as I'm concerned had the instructor on the DVD just gone through the practice 'follow along' by going through the simple drill 3times instead of just twice. Crazy.. The makers of the DVD can argue and defend their stance any which way they choose, but the fact remains extremely simple and in the making of the DVD, 3 times. Not just twice. It's practically a standard. They screwed up. I otherwise learned quite a bit from this, but it was AGGRAVATING to me the way the material was presented.I could ALMOST give this 5 Stars for beginners, but the instructor and DVD makers rushed through the thing. Crazy, but that's just how it is.

Always great for beginners or as a refresher.
Item received on time and in excellent condition. Haven't used it yet, but have used others just like it for other instruments and love being able to learn or refresh my memory after years of not playing. Thank you so much.

Due to present comitments I shall not be in any position to use the book and to start playing the trumpet. But it looks as if it is the right book for beginers

basic but audio is annoying
The tracks are not sperate from the commentary which can drive you crazy. It needs to the music cutting off the audio. The book is basic and will teach you trumpet but expect lot of yapping.
