What to expect!
First let me start off by saying that these are excellent clippers! I used it on my dog to cut her fur down and the side vents prevented the clippers from getting clogged. The only time I noticed heat was when I put my hand over the side vents. I was able to clip her for the entire session without them overheating!! They didn’t clog, they didn’t overheat, they didn’t stall!!!!! Best of all they did not make a lot of noise. For those of you that have skittish pets, these are the clippers for you. There are a few things that I recommend when purchasing these clippers. Make sure to get the metal attachment set. This gives you a clean long lasting option. This is great for pet grooming. Also invest in alternate blades, but do your research!! You may only need one or two for your pet. With that said I wanted to address another post I saw below that was really in-depth. If you are buying this to groom professionally you need to do your research period. There are a lot of options available with this brand and you need to research in depth. Make sure to clean out the hair and oil clippers. Never use water on your clippers! They will rust and ruin. I use a small air blower to clean off all hair and then clean and oil out the blade. You cant imaging the amount of hair you will find under the blade. Now that being said I did have a complaint. This isn’t an issue for me because I hate stickers and remove them anyway. But the one I ordered did not have the oster metal sticker plate attached to the top by the blade. It was stuck to the manual so even if I wanted to use later I could not as paper was stuck on the sticker end. I disagree with the comment below - "It cuts too short". It’s meant to. Research your blade size and needs based on dog. Cut against the grain! And the guides work fine on any size blade. You just need to take your time. Treat your pups hair like yours. I have spent hundreds on groomers only for my dog to smell like dog still and his hair to be uneven and wavy. Best advise I can give is “Be prepared”! And be patient!!!!!! I cannot stress this enough. Use the resources available to you and for the love of your pet, don’t be dumb about it!!!!!! All these bad reviews make me laugh and cry at the same time. I know that there are people out there that are dumb, but never realized the abundance of this. Be smart, research, and have fun!!!!

Wonderful!
Amazing! If I could give this 10 stars I would. Let me paint the picture for you. I have 3 dogs. Chow chow- poodle mixes. Holy undercoat Batman! My dogs have managed to break 4 sets of clippers.... 4! Just with their hair. I maintained them just as specified and didn't do anything to them other than use them on my dogs. I was even looking at getting sheep shears in hopes that that would cut through the thicket that was growing prosperously on them. I tried the Andis AGC, which worked a few times. Then I tried the KM5 and KM10, which were destroyed after 1 use each. These were half the price of those and they worked like a charm! Here are where the other clippers fell short- which happen to be the same spots these excel: Hot Blades: In other clippers, there isn't any ventilation so the blades heat up fast. I don't know how other people do it, but I stop when the blades get hot and wait for them cool down. Which makes grooming take twice as long. These have little ventilation slats. The blade stays cool for a long time. The body of the clippers do warm up, but not so much that you can't hold it. But don't let your finger block the ventilation hole, that is very hot. For the record, your hand should not be near the ventilation holes at all, hold the clippers further back and it is a lot more comfy. Jammed Blades: the blades in other clippers were always getting jammed, even with frequent stops to clear the blades. These did not jam. Not once! The cords aren't too long or too short- unlike other clippers There is zero assembly required. I really wish I would have gotten these from the beginning and saved myself the stress. I'm not saying you should do this, but I bought two. When one heats up, I switch to the other one. By the time that one heats up, the other one has cooled down. That way, you minimize the breaks you have to take and the job gets done sooner.

These clippers work very well!
I cut my dogs hair myself because I have several dogs and grooming is so expensive. These clippers do the trick. In my opinion, the quality is excellent. The clippers just glide through the thick hair. I have had to buy new ones every few years because something always seems to become unadjusted so that the clipper heads no longer fit right, but I am not talented enough to figure it out. They aren't too noisy and are easy to clean. I like them enough that I have bought 3 or maybe 4 of this brand.

Pretty Good for First Set of Clippers Ever Owned
After reading reviews on several different types of clippers and balancing the reviews with the price of the product, I decided to purchase the Oster Golden A5 clippers. I have 3 medium-sized dogs (a German Shepherd/collie mix, a black shepherd/lab mix, and a white lab mix...all rescues!), and I was going to have to pay at least $50 for each dog's summer haircut. So...for the $150 I'd spend at the groomer's, I decided to spend the same amount for my own clippers that I can use year after year. I also cut my long-haired cat's hair, saving myself even more in grooming fees. Having never used any clippers before, I struggled a bit before finally learning to tilt the clippers at a certain angle. Once I learned that, it was soooooo easy! I will have to say, however, that these clippers are NOT quiet, although I can't compare them to any other brands. Even my long-haired cat, who is about 20 years old and nearly deaf, could hear the buzz! Every once in a while the clippers would stop cutting well and the dog hair would sort of tangle up in the blades, but I'd just blow on the blades and they would start working well again. The unit got a bit hot, but nothing as bad as what I had read about for other clippers. I was able to shave down all 3 dogs, plus my cat, in one evening. Overall, I think these are good clippers and are worth the price.

Works great, just read before you buy
These clippers work great. I have a little curly maltipoo whose hair is absolutely untamable. After giving him a bath, letting the hair dry, then brushing it, these clippers cut through it like butter. There are a lot of reviews on here saying the clippers won’t cut their dog’s hair. There is a reason for that. You haven’t read the instructions. The product vividly illustrates the purpose of each blade that is available for these clippers. You can clearly see they come with a 40, and that blade is meant solely for ears. Blades for the body are a 3 or 4. You have to buy those separately. To know this you would have had to looked at all the product pictures before purchasing. So it’s not Oster’s fault your clippers didn’t work. It’s the effort of the user to do their do dilligence and research. Five stars. Great clippers. They do get hot, but only when you’re using the wrong blade or your hand covers the vent.

Piece of junk!!!!
I opted to go for this set of clippers based on the rave reviews, and recommendations. I will say that it did work well the first few times I used it, after that it was never the same. I purchased these clippers to trim my two cocker spaniels. No big deal, I wasn't cutting through mats, or thick hair. I was cutting their backs, head, face, and private parts. Like I said, the first few times it would cut like a knife through hot butter. However, I soon noticed that it was pulling at my dogs hair and not cutting at all. I kept these clippers in very good condition, oiling when needed, and cleaning after every cut. I went back on amazon to look at the reviews and found I was not the only one. I also agree these get SUPER hot quick, not only will it burn your dog it will burn you! I thought that buying a good set of clippers would keep me away from expensive groomers, but these have done the opposite. The clippers quit working properly after about 6-7 months. I thought that the problem was associated with how the clippers where put back together..... Puulease! I had to have took these clippers apart a billion times to get it going and it would work for second and then go back to pulling the hair. Now when I take it apart and put it back together it still pulls. I never would have paid so much for clippers had I known it would stop working a few months later. I am going to opt for a cheaper set this go around so atleast if it stops working after a few months.. **** UPDATE ****** I wanted to post up another update to my clipper dilemma. Since posting this review, I did go through a number of cheaper clippers before I got up the courage to purchase a nice Andis unit. And I haven't had a problem since! I have only replaced the blade once in the 2 years I've had it. I use oil to coat the blade after a shaving session and a coolant while shaving my dogs. It doesn't get near as hot on the handle of the clippers as these did, but the blade does so I keep the coolant nearby. I've even started shaving my dogs completely down and they haven't had the issues this unit has. It might have just been a fluke, but it really did scare me off from oster. I did see that there was a couple of people that have suggested the blade alignment on the clipper being an issue. It has been so long and I've since tossed the clipper so I couldn't revisit it to see. I know that I've taken my andis apart several times for cleaning and to replace the blade with it all going back together again. It still works fine and it is very easy to see that the blade is seated on the clipper. There again, that was just the issues I had with it. But I'm very happy with my new unit.

This is a MUST READ if you are struggling with these clippers
I’ll start off by saying I have a 60 pound goldendoodle with a thick, curly coat. The last clipper I bought for her stopped holding a charge in less than a year so I was back looking for a solution to help keep her coat trim. The reviews on this one were good so I decided to go with it. It went better than the last one I had but based on the reviews I thought it was going to go better. Now this is the first dog I’ve ever attempted to groom so calling me a newbie is an understatement. I have no idea what I’m doing. I didn’t bathe her first (I’ve heard tips that I probably should), her coat is VERY thick and curly ( which I cannot change), and she’s a big dog which takes awhile to complete the project. Her coat was probably a touch long and overgrown, which was on me. Next time I’m going to try to bathe her first. The clipper did get stuck and clogged with hair on a regular basis, but again, that might have been on me for not proper conditions. One thing not on me though is that the clippers get very hot. The cord is somewhat a pain, but I also wanted a corded clipper because the last rechargeable device (different brand) died so fast. If Amazon allows me to update this review after the initial post, I’ll update it once I do use it a few times. Update: the clipper seemed to work the best the first time I used it. This is my third time using it, but the second time wasn’t wonderful however it doesn’t even appear it’s cutting the hair anymore. I’ve gone through all the paperwork that came with it to see what’s wrong with it, but the only possibly help I found was lubricating oil and grease. I went online to see if I need to clean it better (I clean it every time I’ve used it by removing hair and lightly wiping the unit down) but maybe there’s more to it. Nope, couldn’t find anything. I went to YouTube to find some videos for help or ideas, which I found how to lubricate the blades, so I did that. Still no difference. I’ve been trying to cut this dogs hair for 30-45 minutes and to me it looks fuzzy like the combing combing through the hair, but it’s not cutting anything off. (If you see any hair on the clippers in the picture or video it’s because I was trying to give her a haircut but got frustrated enough to come here and update my review). My son got home and asked where I started on her haircut if that gives you an idea how much these clippers don’t cut after 30-45 minutes. I’ve watched other people using these clippers with very good results and not much of a fight, so I really don’t understand what’s going on with mine. Maybe I got a bad one, I don’t know. I am very not happy with these clippers. I haven’t decided if I’m going to give up entirely now or try another brand. What a waste. Final update: Luckily I don’t give up easily. I’ve tried the clippers now 3 other times and none of the times has my experience been what I was hoping it was going to be. They were not even close to cutting and then I had a light bulb moment to try another blade. The clipper comes with a #10 blade, which is really short. After watching other people clip a goldendoodle, I settled on purchasing a #5 blade (from another seller on Amazon). This was the blade I’ve been using all 3 times. So, light bulb, try the blade that came with it (also a duh moment) and voila …. The clippers went through her hair like butter just like the rest of the reviewers and people on other videos said. So now that I tried this #10 blade and it worked so good, I had to finish the job so my goldendoodle has a buzz cut, but luckily it’s been a hot summer so she probably likes it. Anybody that is having a struggle with these clippers, switch the blade out and I’ll bet it’ll work like a charm. No more buying blades that don’t work from random places for me (and you shouldn’t either)! (The only reason I am struggling in the video is because I’m right handed and also trying to hold my phone while using the clippers left handed and also trying to settle my dog. Lol). This is a long post but I thought it was only fair to update the review and hope this helps someone that had the same problem as me.

Pretty good, not pretty great
I have a long hair mixed bread dog, and unless I take him to the groomer at least every 2 months, his fur easily becomes matted in some areas on the legs, behind the ears, and armpits (legpits? LOL). So I decided to take the grooming upon myself. I first tried a $30 grooming set from a local Wal-Mart...this was worthless, and after an hour of trying to shave my dog, he looked terrible and I had made virtually no progress. His fur is very thick and was matted in some small patches. So I ordered the Oster A5 2-speed clipper based on the mostly solid reviews. I was able to shave my dog's fur and remove the matted parts. I appreciate the 2 speeds, high for the body and tough to cut areas, and low for the gentler areas, such as around the face. I will say that the clippers still struggled to get through some of the tougher fur and I had to really work at getting the matted fur to cut. The end results were great, but the process took much, much longer than expected. For the price, I expected these clippers to cut through the thick matted parts with relative ease, unfortunately this was not the case. However, with some rocking, back and forth, and plenty of patience, I was able to clean up all of my dog's fur. The clippers easily glided along his back, sides, and stomach nicely, neatly and evenly trimming his fur; as long as there was not matted fur. He was not bothered by the noise and the clippers did not leave any sort of nicks or markings. I used the included #10 blade, to essentially shave him down as close to the skin as possible. Since I now own a descent set of dog grooming clippers, I will be able to maintain the haircut easier, and I hope to make use of the additional length combs I also purchased. If I cut his fur on a monthly basis, I will not run into matting of the fur, and I suspect the clippers will perform wonderfully. I look forward to the experience. Overall I am pleased with the Oster A5 grooming clippers, but I am not overly impressed. Still, staying on somewhat of a budget, these clippers probably will not disappoint.

Fantastic clippers!!
Love these clippers for my 3 Ragdoll cats. My friend lent me her professional clippers last year and I shaved my cats for the first time. Her clippers got hot guickly, were loud and fast. I just shaved my old Ragdoll girl and the clippers are fantastic! They are quieter and didn't get hot. I only used the low speed and these clippers did a fine job. Now all that's needed is for me to perfect the lion cut so my kitties look as great as these clippers work!
