Upgraded Part
In this kit the insert for the spindle that mates the stem to the spindle is thick brass, my original is plastic which was starting to crack.FWIW, this spindle is "off" in the middle as opposed to the old one which was "sorta both" in the middle.A 5/16" tap is really good tool to pull out the old spindle. Because a tap cuts threads as it goes in, it doesn't cause the spindle to expand, which would make it harder to pull out. The old spindle won't be damaged this way, so it could be reused given a new O ring... Purchaser's Spouse

Solved my leaking shower fixture.
Solved my leaking shower fixture. The hardest part of the repair was removing the old spindle. Recommend you use a wire brush to clean out any residual material in the valve before putting in the new spindle.
