does this come with new train cards?

It comes with a complete set of large-format (by large, they mean standard poker deck size) train cards, as well as a set of large-format destination tickets. The tickets include the set that comes with the original game, as well as additional tickets that are part of the expansion variations.

Does this work with the European version?

No, the 1910 Expansion only work with the US version. There is a 1912 Expansion that is made for the European version...

Can you make this all fit in the original Ticket to Ride box?

We just keep the extra box with the original box. The expansion box is 3 3/4 inches by 8 inches by 1 1/4 inch. THe pieces could fit in the original box because we are talking about 181 cards that are the size of regular playing cards. They could be spread out in the cubbies that hold the train bags.

why does this set say 39 new destination cards while other sets with the same model number say 35 new destination cards?

I suspect it is a misprint. This expansion comes with 181 cards. 110 train cards, same number as the original base game, simply larger. 69 destination tickets, as opposed to only 34 in the original. There are also two cards not in play: the longest route bonus card and the most completed routes bonus card. The card size and 35 extra tickets are more than sufficient to justify picking up the expansion.
