Keeps out the squirrels & the jackdaws
We have been fighting a losing battle with three baby squirrels that keep raiding our peanut feeders. This one seems to have done the trick - the bars are closer than on its predecessor and it is shorter. The small squirrels were able to get inside the cage through the bars on the old one and help themselves until such times as they had helped themselves to so much that they couldn't wriggle in any more. The squirrels have avoided the new feeder and contented themselves with clearing up anything that drops from the rest of our feeders. We have added a cable tie to reinforce the catch on the lid as we know the squirrels are remorselessly resourceful. The bars are also close enough to deter the jackdaws, crows & rooks but the woodpeckers can still feed from them

Keeps the big birds away!
I bought a number of squirrel-proof bird feeders as I was being plagued by a flock of huge black birds who scoffed all the food I put out within about an hour, and terrorised all the wee birdies. They have done the job brilliantly! The big birds realised within a day or so that they couldn't get at the food and moved on. It took a couple of days for the little birds to return, but now my garden is full of lovely small birds! (And a couple of fat pigeons who waddle around the ground picking up all the stuff that the little birds drop!)The feeders allow birds as big as starlings and blackbirds to feed easily whilst keeping away crows and rooks. Don't know about squirrels though as I don't have a problem with them!

Not Squirrel resistant!
It took just 3 days for the Squirrels to rip apart the inner mesh container for the peanuts rendering it useless. This is the second squirrel proof peanut feeder I have bought, the first one was from another seller so Its a general fault I would say . The outside is very strong and well made but as I said the actual mesh holder is not.

It took the clever squirrels a matter of an hour ...
It took the clever squirrels a matter of an hour or two to access the peanuts from the bottom of this feeder. I weaved garden wire around the bottom section to try and outwit the rodents but they just gnawed through the inside wire [ as it is too flimsy to resist squirrels ]. All in all not effective at all. There needs to be more distance between the outer cage and the food, the cage should be made smaller to prevent the squirrels poking their head through and the inner wire needs to be stronger to prevent them from simply biting through.

Excellent value
As it said on the tin

Recommended by Amazon and good value for the money.
This was a feeder recommended to me by Amazon and very good value for the price but the jury is out on it being squirrel proof , at least with ones we are plagued with. We will have to wait and see when and if the young ones can get get through the wires to the nuts inside.

Good for keeping squirrels but also good for keeping small birds out
I purchased this item to deter larger birds from taking all the peanuts when the smaller birds didn't get a look in. It unfortunately didn't work , as the only bird I have seen on this particular feeder was a Woodpecker . Obviously good at it's job in keeping Squirrels at bay , and for that I would have given 5 stars . I think the smaller birds are frightened that if they get inside the larger cage , then they will get trapped inside . Anyway they might get used to it eventually , and , I'm saving a fortune in peanuts.Mike Reynolds London
