Don't be like me...
...well, in a lot of senses, but most aptly, in the sense that I didn't test all features of this product immediately upon opening it. CDs, sadly, get a lot less rotation-time in my music-listening habit than they used to, so naively I didn't even try playing a CD until I'd had this thing for several months. One CD after another would not play, and trust me when I say that I tried CDs of every quality, level of pristineness of upkeep, etc. None are even acknowledged as being present when, by any sane account, they clearly are. I don't want to make a smeary blanket statement and say, "Don't buy this piece of trash cuz it doesn't work!", because results can easily (and hopefully) vary. Just make every effort, review reader, to try every facet of this product as soon as you have it out. Should they all be found functional, you'll have an excellent purchase on your hands. It's not the loudest thing ever, but you wouldn't buy it expecting it to be. The display, when working from an SD card or flash drive, doesn't dazzle you with an abundance of displayed track or album info, but you can pretty much tell that from the picture and the apparent size of the display. The radio works, which...is great, as far as that takes you. The aux-in is fine. Don't have anything plugged into that jack if you're trying to use an SD or flash drive, FYI. It simply cannot handle that conflict of interest. Minor stuff, doesn't detract from the functionality one tick. But, in my case, the CD player is a bust, and even if I'm the only one who found this to be the case, I can only rate the item that I paid for and received. So don't be naive like me. Look the thing over and make sure it does everything it purports to do, before months go by, the packaging has all gone the way of that weeks' cans and bottles, and your will to fight the Returns Battle has left you entirely. Happy listening!

Great quality upgrade to the NX-250
I bought the Naxa NX-250 a few years ago and for $40 it was well worth the price. This Naxa NPB-256 is very similar to the NX-250 but is just better in every way though it does cost about $20 more it is well worth the extra cost. Both boomboxes can play SD cards, USB thumb drives, and MP3's on a cd. I found the boomboxes were capable of reading 4 GB SD cards and USB thumb drives, though I didnt have a larger size to test, and I only tested the USB thumb drive on the NX-250. Also I never tested the MP3-CD capability but I've never had a problem with boomboxes playing these in the past. Expect to be able to fit anywhere between 250 and 1,000 mp3's on a single 4 GB SD card or USB flash drive, or between 50-175 mp3's on a cd depending on the bitrate and length of the songs. Since playing from SD cards or USB thumb drives does not require any mechanical moving parts you can expect the batteries to last alot longer then with playing a cd, though obviously the radio probably provides the longest battery life. Radio reception was great on the NX-250 and it seems to be ok on the NPB-256 though I havent used it that much. Here are the PROS and CONS I have noticed and some of these are just comparing the NPB-256 to the NX-250PROS:- Ability to play atleast 4 GB SD cards, USB thumb drives and mp3's on a cd.- Good sound quality, plenty loud, decent bass, bunch of different presets, all from 4 speakers (rather then the usual 2 that boomboxes have)- Buttons are well placed with all of them on the front half of the top and all having a nice "clicking" action. So none of them feel cheap- Blue backlit display- Mp3 ID3 tag information scrolls on the screen but the display is too small for it to be that effective- Scrolling through songs on the SD card or thumb drive is almost instantaneous- +10 button to skip ahead 10 songs- All the usual random/repeat options- Antennae is very long at almost 30" and much longer then the NX-250 antennae- CD compartment is a great place to store SD cards and thumb drives- Overall just looks better quality then the NX-250CONS:- About $20 more then the NX-250- Were the handle attaches to the boombox seems a little lacking in sturdiness. Probably wont be a problem but has me a little concerned that the handle could break off- Volume and Radio frequency knobs are analog, which some people prefer digital, but the volume knob spins a little too freely. Would have been nice if there was a little resistance when turning it. Plus I find myself grabbing the whole turn knob rather then the little tab on the top of the knobs.- Probably a bit too long and heavy to be "highly portable", at 7.5 lbs with batteries and 18" in length- Would have been nice if the display was on the top of the boombox were the buttons are- Would have been better if the USB thumb drive slot was located a little better so something doesnt bump against the boombox and break the thumb drive off.CONCLUSION:- The NPB-256 is definately an upgrade to the NX-250 with better sound quality and overall better quality, though it does cost a little more. If your looking for something highly portable that can play SD cards, USB thumb drives or mp3's on cd then the NX-250 is not bad. If your looking for better sound quality and just a better unit overall, you don't mind paying a little more and sacrificing some portability while having the same features as the NX-250, then the NPB-256 is for you.

Good value, but has some flaws
This Boom Box has a lot of features I was looking for at a very good price.Pros: Good sound quality. Good construction. Most features function as advertised (see exceptions below). Text display that displays MP3 file tag information (artist, album, title).Cons:One inch dial for radio tuning that rotates only 180 degrees (however I can easily lock in local stations).MP3 playback skips on VBR mp3 files. Occurs 2 or 3 times per album. Constant bit rate works ok.When playing back from USB device, play order is ALWAYS random, no matter what mode I program.Manual is very basic, has no specifications.Display fades to unreadable when viewing head on, but darkens when viewing at a 45 degree angle.Good unit if you can live with the flaws.

Very disappointing
Very disappointed in this product. It hums when it is turned off and the cd player squeaks when you are playing a cd. Very poor quality.
