PA5800 PERSONAL ASSISTANCE SYSTEM WITH PENDANT X10PRO

I purchased this for my parents. My Mother has a hard time walking, which made my Father nervous. He was scared to go anywhere, not even the store.After the purchase, my Father installed it and said it was very easy. They tested it and are very happy with it. I have not personally seen this in action, but it seems to work well, allowing my Father to go to the store, run errands and mow the yard without worry.

My mother lives by herself and I always worry about her falling, this gives both of us piece of mind. She lives on a fixed income, and it's nice that there is no monthly charges to worry about. I have it set to call me first, then a nieghbor, then 911. It states not to have it call 911, but if the first two calls are not picked up 911 will send help anyway. Check it monthly, some times your out going message is deleted, make sure to state in your message to press "0" to hear live inside the house, write down your message in case you have to reprogram it.

It's an effective and easy old fashion system. It's very simple to do the set up but the only inconvenience is that while you're testing the alarm it's so hard that when you finished testing your ears fills the same as when you leave a very noisy night party. Besides this everything seems to be great.

I own two of these units. One base unit failed in 10 years. The reason I gave the PA5800 only 4 stars is that it barely works to 50 feet which is why the manufacturer states a maximum 50 foot range. I have 6 pendants and they all have the same range. If you have walls between the base unit and pendant it will definitely affect the range. If the user does not have situational awareness, they may think help is activated when they pressed the help button even though a pendant signal may not have actually reached the base due to obstructions. Everything else functions well. The base unit is very sensitive to any sounds even beyond the room the base is located in. The phone number programming requires zero errors else you will have to reprogram every number again. I have just ordered a different more technically advanced unit that has a advertised range of 600 feet.

Our family has used this system for over ten years, as once my dad died my mom is using it. We love it! It will take following the manual but it's easy to set up and I love that the one who pushes the button for help can holler out and let us know whether to call 911 or if they accidentally pushed it or if they just need help getting up. For a system that doesn't have a monthly fee it's priceless for us.

Bought from X10 site a few years ago for Mom when she was having problems. Thankfully, she never had to use it--though it was pushed accidently twice and it worked. Mom had leaned against the edge of the sink or something. We do test every so often. Nice that you can reprogram the phone numbers if needed. I did pay a lot less than the price here.
