An indispensable guide to food, our most powerful tool to reverse the global epidemic of chronic disease, heal the environment, reform politics, and revive economies, from #1 New York Times bestselling author Mark Hyman, MD. "Read this book if you're ready to change the world." โTim Ryan, US Representative What we eat has tremendous implications not just for our waistlines, but also for the planet, society, and the global economy. What we do to our bodies, we do to the planet; and what we do to the planet, we do to our bodies. In Food Fix , #1 bestselling author Mark Hyman explains how our food and agriculture policies are corrupted by money and lobbies that drive our biggest global crises: the spread of obesity and food-related chronic disease, climate change, poverty, violence, educational achievement gaps, and more. Pairing the latest developments in nutritional and environmental science with an unflinching look at the dark realities of the global food system and the policies that make it possible, Food Fix is a hard-hitting manifesto that will change the way you think aboutโand eatโfood forever, and will provide solutions for citizens, businesses, and policy makers to create a healthier world, society, and planet. Review: We can actually do something about our food system! - Dr. Hyman is well-known as an author, teacher, clinician and visionary leader in the clinical domain of medicine. He has helped innumerable people through his books and work with his UltraWellness Center and founding the Cleveland Clinic Center for Functional Medicine. He is known to state that Functional Medicine is about "Changing the medicine we do . . . and changing the way we do medicine!" NOW he has brought this same vision and leadership to FOOD and our food system. It is all about "Changing the food we eat . . . and changing the way we get our food." The thing that most impresses me about this book and Dr. Hyman is his indefatigable spirit that we can each make a difference in this world. He exemplifies it and shows us practical opportunities and calls to action. THANK YOU for this GIFT! pH, MD Review: Covers a lot of ground, accurate, succinct, and wide-reaching, an important topic - As i have studied most of what is in the book for decades, I must say that this book has a wide scope, and if it doesn't depress you to the level of becoming comatose, I think there is a lot here to work towards a better planet, and better health. For someone who is not familiar with many of these topics, it is easy to understand and an eye-opener. I believe many of us would do well to study this book in detail. It is definitely a very useful read.

Educational but not strictly about diet - Pros & Cons below
I would give this book a 4-star rating simply because it was educational and different than what I expected. The content of this book caught me by surprise and I was able to finish the book in 2 days. A great deal of research has been done on the food industry and how politics play a huge role in agriculture. Even though we all might have an idea of how the government and big food companies have ruined our health and our planet, I thought it was still worth reading. I enjoyed reading about poverty and racism (chapter IV) I did not learn anything new about the plant-rich diet or what type of meat I should be eating. If you own any other Hyman's book, think of this book as a prequel to that book. This book isn't about what we should eat it's about why we eat the food we eat that's killing us and killing our planet (see the attached table of contents of this book) Pros Very light, great for carry-on bags Simple writing, easy to understand, fast read book summary of a bunch of scholarly journals Cons Food fix sounded like mostly about diet and meal plans but it's not

Informative.
This book made me think a little differently about something I take for granted! This was less about dieting and healthy eating, and much more about the processes of production and distribution of food. I found it very interesting. I've long thought that the food we eat today is NOT the food my parents and grandparents ate, and this book confirms that for me. Clearly it is time to take a much closer look at public policy as regards our food supply. I'm thinking food gardening will be my next adventure.

A Must Read!
Fabulous book! Dr Hyman communicates a wealth of information on a very complex topic in a clear and understandable way. While the topic can be overwhelming at times, Dr Hyman spells out the many steps, large and small, that we can choose to take to save the future of our food system, our health and our planet. This book should be mandatory reading for everyone...especially those who control our government and food systems. It is time for all to prioritize health over profits. Thank you for this wonderful resource!

Climate ChangeโReally
Dr Hyman presents very interesting and compelling information in the realm of food and health. But his detour to a subject that he is completely unqualifiedโclimate science, destroyed his credibility for me. He is asking us to challenge our acceptance of conventional healthcare, but he regurgitates the conventional views on climate change. He should have consulted credible scientists like Dr. Richard Lindzen, Dr. Judith Curry, Dr Steven Koonin and many others, instead of Dr James Hanson. This last chapter (17) basically destroyed his credibility as someone who I should listen to in his area of expertise since he was willing to push ridiculous theories on the Climate and how we can โsave the planetโ for which he is utterly unqualified to assess and recommend.

Phenomenal and strategies to change the food system for the better
Mark Hyman is phenomenal in gathering and providing the strategies to challenge the Big and modern Food and Agriculture that affect our lives seriously negatively and turn it around for not just our health, but our survival on our planet. I was hooked to all and noted the strategies so I will contribute my part as best as possible, and I recommend you learn from this book too.

A good background story, but really USA targeted so less useful to the rest of the world
Only interesting if you live in the USA. Overall nothing too intreating for the rest of us around the world that are a little less caught up in big agro and corrupt government and and school food schemes... ok, read, but actually one can could summarize the book into a single sentence: avoid eating processed foods. or reduce eating processed foods.

Know where your food is coming from.
I heard Dr. Hyman talking about this book on a podcast and after it was finished I ordered this book. I got it 4 days later and I read it in 3 days. What a great book. I canโt believe what is going on in this food/pharma industry. What a great book that should (I did) change your mind on all of the processed foods out there.

A credible plan for the future
The book does really well in exposing the slow burning damage the food industry and other corporations have done over the 20th Century and it showcases this impact in many different facets of western societies. I particularly liked how it showed the poor and ethnic minorities being impacted the most, due to cheap, bad food being available closest to them and how their options are limited both economically and even when the government intervenes to help them via food stamps, for example. Its no wonder that the rates of autism and other childhood disorders have increased more in ethnic minorities, disproportionately to increases in other sections of populations. This is true later in life, for other chronic health conditions and diseases. The book wraps up these problems by providing a holistic solution, involving easy changes to one's own lifestyle and a good plan for collective action at the political level.

Confronting but informative and ultimately encouraging read.
The book outlines the horrors of our food production system. The devastation of the current corporate food production on farmers, the land, the environment and ultimately the consumer. Cheap food for fast profits is killing us, and our land. However, the road out of the dilemma is described - but won't be easy. Everyone who cares about their health and the health of our world, should read this.
