Camlin Kokuyo Artist Watercolor Tube 5ml - 24 Shades (Multicolor)

This review is for the Kokuyo Camlin 24 set 5ml watercolor tubes. This is the third time I purchased this product. These watercolors are absolutely lovely and I am so pleased with the price point. The first time I purchased these watercolors I payed double the price. I have a lot of watercolor brands (student and professional) made in the US and abroad, and this is among my top favorites. They mix very well, do not get muddy and conforms to ASTM D 4236 and are Non-toxic. The Yellow Ochre and Raw Sienna are very close in color which was odd, and they do have a strong chemical smell when first pored from the tubes, which I can understand would turn a lot of people off. However in my opinion, these paints perform nicer dried in a palette and after several days, the smell does dissipate. The tubes in this set have a lightfast rating of A and B ( A-Absolutely Permanent, B-Permanent). I have read many reviews that have glowing remarks on their lightfastness. I personally have never did a lightfast test on this set. There is no pigment information on these watercolors. I believe that they have a total of 48 colors in their line, and offer larger 20ml sized tubes. I would be extremely interested in purchasing and trying more colors. I have not been able to find open stock anywhere. Maybe they will be offered on Amazon in the future. If you are looking for a very nice inexpensive watercolor and you are a beginner, student or professional, regardless of the smell, these are definitely worth it. They are very enjoyable to paint with.

Easy to use and lasts a long time.

I have been teaching myself how to paint in watercolor when I found this brand on YouTube. This Camel paint brand has a good color development for beginners and is well priced for the quality you get. I liked it so much I bought 12 additional colors from this company. If there is a downside, it's probably the somewhat pungent crayon smell you get when you first squeeze out the paint to mix it, but the quality more than makes up for it.

Has a slight smell but doable. Put them in a pallet and let them dry they work much better and the smell goes away. The colors are beautiful and mix well. Will be getting more

I took these paints to the rocky mountains to paint our campsite. They did not disappoint. I was able to mix an abundance of greens and browns. For the price, these are very nice reliable paints. I will definitely purchase again.

These paints are great for what they are, and $15 for 24 paints seems like a great deal until we start to dig into them a little bit more. Some of this may be a little bit unfair but it has to be thought about before paying for them. You get 24 ml tubes, but the paint shrinks heavily if you're putting them into pans like I do. 5 ml doesn't feel very fair with some colors like the naples which I had to use the entire tube for to get one half pan eventually with drying and shrinking, viridan and prussian also had this problem. The color selection also may seem strange with the inclusion of 'Camlin Blue' [Phthalo as a inhouse dupe for Winsor Blue], Naples Yellow, Indian Yellow or Light Red. But it kind of works in some cases, some not. There is no ultramarine. The cobalt and cerulean look really samey/way too similar. I'm never really a fan of light red and there are already 4 browns in this set and 5 if you count yellow ochre. The prussian is very light compared to other brands. They only recently released their pigment infos and there are no single pigment paints-which is fair for this as a budget option especially when you balance that they do not crack when dried and have a beautiful clarity and transparency to them. But...unfortunately Meeden just dropped a student grade set(as of 2023) with 12ml for about $16 that has a better selection of colors and similar clarity and better shrinkage values with single pigments-so not that fair anymore. The mixes are very very good if strange sometimes-having both a really nice gamboge and indian yellow true to the hue and then raw and burnt of sienna and umber. Their payne's grey is absolutely stunning though and has become my favorite. I cannot in good conscience give them the go ahead with all these things in mind, the strange color selection, shrinkage and smell means you're paying for less than half a pan for each color and all of them are mixed pigments. There are better sets out there for a little bit more money. They do smell though when you use them! I didn't get the toxic smell, but they were pretty smelly and took a long long time to dry in my pans. I did use them all up-but to give away to friends, there are about 4/5 of these paints in my current palette and I don't think I'd give them another whirl.

The pigment wasn’t great. The amount of watercolor in each box is an illusion.

I was swatching this in my room while drinking soda. Even while pouring a little bit onto my palette, I could already smell the toxic odor of the pAint. I decided to wear a spare mask (you know we still have some of ‘em) but then I started throwing up. It’s really that bad. I paint with my daughter most of the time, I just have to return this product.

I reviewed these before buying them because of the price (I have schmincke and Holbein) I'm pleasantly surprised with them..creamy texture and behave as good quality paints should..what have you got to loose..arrived exactly on time...GREAT .....

Son preciosas y de una calidad excelente. Las conocí por vídeos de acuarelistas profesionales de India y la verdad es que me gusta mucho. Se han convertido en una de mis preferidas. La única pega es que que tienen un olor algo fuerte, aunque a mi no me molesta, y si las echas en godets para trabajar con ellas como pastillas, tardan bastante en secar (no llegan a secar del todo) y tienes que tener cuidado y tenerlas en horizontal bastante tiempo
