Awesome little instant camera, just not good for heat set ID badges
After doing a lot of research (but apparently not enough) for a simple, economical, quality instant camera for my employer (after the polaroid film for our old ID camera stopped being made and our supply ran out), I settled on KODAK Smile Instant Print Digital Camera. We do not wish to spend thousands or even hundreds on a new ID system, and this seemed ideal as the size of the prints, ability to take two in photo booth mode, and the ability to delete or select what to print seemed perfect. What didn't click was the fact the Zink paper is heat set and our plastic laminating machine would destroy the prints. We considered the type that use the ribbon cartridge prints, but those seem to jam and break per reading reviews. The current Polaroid style are too thick (our old system had the prints that you peeled away the outside, not the thick prints with chemical pod borders that are not easily trimmable. As much as I would love this camera for personal use, I decided I'd rather get a Zinc printer and use my cell phone with it, so I opted not to buy it off my employer but to return it as it failed to serve the purpose for which it was bought. The claims that the prints are heat resistant are not valid with a thermal laminator. We ended up buying a traditional style Fugi Poloroid type camera which the prints are hard to cut unless you delaminate or peel the clear plastic from the top and black plastic from the bottom (prints will then curl but not a problem once laminated in the plastic ID badge). This is not recommended by some due to the risk of coming in contact with caustic chemicals. The Kodak smile takes clearer pictures than the Fugi, It has a controllable or automatic flash, focus and exposure, many features that I liked. I highly recommend it to people looking for a fun instant camera that do not need the prints to withstand heat.

Perfect for the Budding Photographer
We love this camera! I did a lot of research before purchasing an instant print camera for my 11-year-old's birthday. I knew that overall it was a fun novelty item, but I also knew I couldn't invest in endless amounts of film, so printing photos that we didn't want was going to be frustrating. Having looked into so many different models (at least those in the less than $100 price range), I had resigned myself to the fact that it was what was going to happen - she'd have to learn to be judicious with her photos and also we'd just use an SD card for when she didn't have film. And then, JUST before I purchased a different model, Amazon suggested the Kodak Smile - and it was EVERYTHING I was hoping for! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE that it has a screen for viewing the photos and she gets to pick which photos she prints. That was the ONE thing I was wanting in an instant-print camera. Of course, she loves getting to use it to take photos of her friends, and our vacations, and she's building up a small scrapbook with her prints (the Zink prints, btw, all have a sticky back, so they can just be stuck right into the book). And the option to review photos and re-print allows her to print multiple copies for friends. Now, I'll have to put the caveat that the photos are not the highest quality - I knew that was going to be the case with any of these cameras - but, again, she's 11, so it's good enough for her. Also, it's a little finnicky in that, in order to save a photo, you have to click the "OK" button after you click the shutter. That takes some getting used to and she's lost a few favorites when others were taking a photo of her, because they didn't know that feature. Finally, I was a little disappointed in the "filters" options - there are only black and white, sepia, and blue. And the only "frame" is either a white border or no border. I thought there would be some more fun things to play with in those, but that wasn't a deal breaker. Overall, she's very happy, and so are we!

Literally the only budget instant print camera with a no-print option.
I bought this over a week ago and I absolutely love the camera. Obviously the picture quality isn't as good as a DSLR but still it's a decent camera. It's super easy to use. I do wish that the display could be better. This camera has a print option, meaning you can select which photos you want to print. It's so simple that even kids can use it. Pretty sturdy build. The battery could be a little better.

This Camera Was the Star of Our Trip
We purchased this instant print camera for a trip we took to Nicaragua to see the two children we sponsor through Compassion International. This camera was awesome. We were able to take pictures of our kids and hand them an immediate memory. I have seen complaints about the quality of the pictures these cameras print. Frankly I do not know what they are talking about. The quality of these pictures are better than the original Polaroid cameras ever had. Granted the pictures are 2in. x 3in. small but they are printed virtually instantly! We found that the camera works well in bright to medium light levels. If you are inside you need to be close, 5 feet or less from your subject for the flash to illuminate the subject properly. That requirement is no different than you had to do for film cameras of the last century. This camera does not have a sophisticated light handling ability like a modern cell phone camera but when was the last time you printed directly from your cell phone into the hand of a bright eyed child in the middle of Nicaragua? NEVER! If you have realistic expectations about what this camera can do, instant 2in x 3in snapshots with a fixed mm lens then you will not be disappointed. If you are expecting 5in x 7in studio quality finished pictures then buy that $1500 digital SLR and the $1200 studio quality photo printer. This camera took and printed close to 20 photos and still had two thirds of its charge left. It is well made and well designed. This camera will be going with me on all future trips and events where instant snapshots are called for. Thank you ZINK for developing this technology, Thank you KODAK for developing such a great little camera printer.

Great purchase
Kodak Smile Instant digital camera is fabulous and exciding, I was so excited when I heard that Kodak came out with such a cool device. The smile camera is equipped with a LCD viewfinder fixed focus making it very easy to smile, point, shoot and print! I love the automatic flash feature so when you are in low light it automatically flashes and comes with a 10MP lens, what makes this point and shoot stand out is the editing suite this cool camera offers when you take an image it will save (device is microSD compatible and you can save up to 256gb of memories!) the picture before going into edit mode, there is an assortment of filter to choose from you can choose to add or remove borders on any image. The coolest feature is the FACT that it prints color phots right on the spot with its one touch printing and no ink is needed! Making it easy to share with friends and family (they love the wallet size 2x3 prints, a few are hanging on my refrigerator it is peel off sticky backed photo paper ) the Kodak 2x3 paper is very economical too. The box included • A camera that takes photos and instantly prints them. • A USB cable that recharges the battery after printing 40 photos • A Kodak Zink photo 5 paper starter pack ( 50 pack is available on Amazon to buy) • A Quick start guide • A limited warranty • 5 Sticker frame boarders Overall the Kodak Smile instant camera is easy to use, has decent picture and print quality, is smudge and waterproof prints making it a very giftable idea for kids, teens and adults, it’s fun convenience and cool looking!!!!

Good but it could have been great
All of the zink cameras made at this point are toys. This one is built very sturdy and I like the fact that when you close it both the lens and the controls are protected. It's a brilliant design. It also has a flash and some of these zink cameras do not. So it is more capable of working in indoor situations. On the negative side of things you can see where they cut corners to save a pitiful amount of money. It's 2021, even a child's camera has a 12 MP sensor. They do some optical interpolation hocus pocus and claim that this is 10MP equivalent. The sensor is actually 5 MP, not 10. I understand that it prints to a 2x3 but the digitals should be respectable should you decide to print larger at a shop. What did this save? 10 bucks? The internal memory holds maybe 5 pictures. Again. This is a pitiful amount of money to save at a significant cost to the consumer. To embed 32G of memory (as a manufacturer) costs very little. For the consumer to buy a 32G card is maybe $12. For heavens sake, put it in there. What did you save? 2 bucks? Why? Overall it's nice for what it is. The prints cost the same as if you went to a photo lab. Take a few pictures, peel the backs off and stick them to the inside of greeting cards. Next time you take the family to the zoo grab a map and stick some photos of the fam on it. Instant souvenir. For this type of thing it's a no brainer.

Fun and easy to use
As others have pointed out, the picture colors tend not to be bright and true to life (unless you're really close up on the subject and in very good lighting) but this kind of plays into the charm of the retro-looking photos and it wasn't an issue for me. The camera is super easy to charge, use, and reload, and it's easy to carry around. Since it has an SD card, you can give away the pictures you take and still reprint more for yourself later or download to your computer instead of only having the one chance. I'm using it to capture fun moments with friends but also to catalog what I'm storing in some small cardboard boxes: just stick the photo on the front! It's a really cute little thing and every time I've used it around others, people have asked me what model it is because they want to get one, too.

Overall very Happy
I was really skeptical to spend any more money on a instant camera, I had a instax mini 7 and it took 2-3 pictures then the rest all failed. Each package of film same thing. But I’m having a gender reveal and I am determined to have a instant camera photo album of everyone who shows up instead of everyone signing a book. What I liked about this product is that it came with 5 photos already so that you can test the camera. I’m very pleased. You can also see the photo before printing and you can add a border or no border or you can do a Photo Booth setting where it’s two pictures side by side. It also has simple filters, normal, black and white, vintage and aqua. Overall happy with my purchase!

Very disappointed with this camera
My daughter was excited to receive this camera as a Christmas gift. Looked great, worked beautifully... for all of 3 hours. Then died. Won’t turn on, won’t reset, won’t charge. Not used roughly or damaged in any way. Currently sending back for a refund. Very disappointed.

Love it
Great product! Love that you can view the photo before printing it! Has options for flash or no flash, filters, borders, timer and more! The quality of photo is pretty good considering it prints in seconds! Only thing that’s slightly negative is that it only holds 5 photos - however it has space for a Micro SD card. Would recommend!
