Liebenzeller RosinLiebenzeller metal rosin has been made in a small village in the German Black Forest for over 40 years. The unique recipe was developed in the workshop of the Viennese violin maker Dr. Thomastik as early as 1922. Made traditionally by hand, Liebenzeller rosin contains delicate bubbles which emphasize the special quality and spirited nature of the rosin. Using pure larch resin with the addition of different metals produces livelier, warmer and brighter sounds than other rosins. This will help produce enhanced tonal volume, greater modulation and carrying power, conveying the individual sound of the instrument without effort, and one-sided tones can be compensated. The bow develops an excellent and even response, with ambient noise minimized.Choosing the right rosin is critical as it is the rosin that creates the sound while playing. Liebenzeller rosin enhances a string instrument's sound as well as the player's creativity with as little effort as possible. We are proud to reintroduce Liebenzeller rosin to the United States after an extended period when it was unavailable here.Liebenzeller rosin is available with Gold, Silver, Copper or Meteor Iron added for a range of unique sounds.GOLDUniquely balanced; the sound is full, round and warm as well as bright and crisp, transparent and light in high notes.Grades I (hard) to VI (soft): the softer grades make the harshness of an instrument milder and enhance it, the harder grades provide more clarity.Gold II: uniquely balanced, a bit more mellow (violin, viola)

Great rosin! Has a more smooth and rich sound
Great rosin ! Has a more smooth and rich sound, more so than Gold 1. Though Gold one has a bit of an edge to it, good when doing solo or chamber music. Need to rosin a bit more often though not many passes on the bow. Sometimes the hair gets a bit slippery, so I do a couple of passes. Some say gold rosin rips up the strings. I've had no issues, just wipe the strings with rubbing alcohol.

This rosin was recommended to me by an extremely talented 11 year old
This rosin was recommended to me by an extremely talented 11 year old, and since she is a much better violinist than I am after playing for nearly 40 years, I gave it a try. It produces very little dust (a plus for me with my asthma) and produces a very smooth sound. I've only used it a few months now, but I am impressed. I notice the most difference on my daughter's 100 year old 1/2 size violin; it has a beautiful sound as it is, but it is still a small instrument. With this rosin, she gets an even better sound. My other daughter plays viola and also enjoys using this rosin as it does make the bow grip so well without being sticky. Although it is expensive, I still recommend this rosin highly.

Fantastic viola rosin
I'm a violist about to complete my undergraduate in performance, and I must say that this is a truly fantastic rosin. It really adds a good bite to the attack without being sticky or lethargic on sustained notes. Was thinking I needed a new bow soon, but this rosin makes enough of a difference to delay that purchase for some time.

Great product! I'm teaching myself the violin
Great product! I'm teaching myself the violin, and had bought a relatively good beginner violin for its price of $300 earlier this January. The violin strings and bow were fine, but it was the default cheap and low quality rosin that arrived as part of the package that really bothered me; the hair wouldn't grip the strings very well, and the sound was scratchy, particularly when I transitioned from my E string to A one. However, with Liebenzeller Gold II rosin, my violin tone has much more clarity and volume. Best of all--no scratchy cacophony. I promise, Liebenzeller isn't sponsoring me for anything, so to the whomever is reading my review, this rosin really is worth the 30 something bucks.

Great stuff. Got it in time
Great stuff. Got it in time. HOWEVER, the packaging was horrible. It rattled around in a box the size of a shoebox (the item is only 2 inches square.) This is expensive and delicate and should have had MUCH more padding.
