Awesome! I purchased this cooler for 5 day canoe trip in the Adirondacks in October. I wanted a cooler that was light, and could stow in a canoe easily, was not rigid and bulky, be carried whilst backpacking, and keep food COLD, as I like to bring fresh food into the wilds to supplement dehydrated food. Theres nothing like fresh eggs and bacon for breakfast, milk in your coffee, and surf and turf and chicken fajitas for dinner! It fit 3 fresh meals for 4 people. Not all of our food required cold. Frozen steak strips, chicken breasts, frozen shrimp scampi,1 dozen eggs, bacon, cold cuts (1lb in total plus cheese), frozen peppers and onions, 1 pint of milk, fresh pasta, and a flat rectangular Chinese food plastic with frozen water in it. Everything fit with slight room for more. It did not leak at all! Temps. during the day around 70. At night ranged from 28-40 Fahrenheit. No issues whatsoever, kept food cold! This thing is rugged, and fit nicely in canoe, and was easy to carry. I got the silver color to avoid absorbing heat from the sun. Because it is soft-sided, it gets smaller and lighter as trip went on. When we returned home, it was till cool in cooler, though temps were cold outside. Food remained fresh and safe. I will test this in the summer time to give a balanced review, but for keeping meat fresh it was perfect! In summer (or warm temps) I may reserve more room for ice. Perfect size for group of four, for fresh food, though warmer temps may require bigger cooler. at this point I do not hesitate to recommend this. The most rugged, insulated soft-sided cooler I have ever used! Will update review after further use.

Finally, a cooler that does what it says! I have spent more money on other coolers that have made the same claims as Polar Bear Coolers and the others have failed me every time. The bag has a very durable canvas outer layer, heavy duty zipper, and I was surprised by how thick and stiff the interior is. I'm sure with use it will loosen up. It is a great size for a days worth of food for just me, or maybe a half day for both my husband and myself. My main purpose for buying this cooler is so that I can pack my food for the day and have it actually stay cold. I will be flying in a few weeks and want to take food with me on the plane as well because we won't have time to eat at our short (and late) layover. I put some ice packets in the cooler at 1pm one day with some drinks and checked inside every few hours to see the condition of not only the ice but also the drinks. I was pleasantly surprised each time as the ice didn't even start to thaw for about 10 hours, by hour 12 it was ever so slightly starting. When I got home I decided to leave the ice inside and check it in the morning. At about 11 am I checked it to find some of the ice packets were about 1/8 of the way melted while the others still showed no sign. All in all the bag had ice packets inside for about 21 hours and performed perfectly the entire time. I highly recommend this!

I have actually never left a review on Amazon before or any website really for that matter. However, I was so pleased with this cooler I felt it was the least I could do for the company. Let me start by saying I have tried at least 5 coolers before I got to this one. I would generally get pissed off and go to Wal-Mart at midnight and buy another cooler hoping it would be better than the last - it never was. I ABSOLUTELY HATE when my food is warm by the end of the day. I have a thing with warm food, esspecially meat, and I'll throw it out if I dont get a chance to eat it. HOWEVER, with this cooler my food stays cold ALL DAY LONG. I work a job where I'm in the office, then in my car, then maybe at a shooting range all day in the sun and no matter the circumstance it keeps my food and drinks cold as a fridge would. As a matter of fact today it was about 70 degrees where I live and I left the cooler in the trunk of my car for about 7 hours. When I got my chicken out to warm it up it was so cold still I had to add an extra minute on the microwave to warm the food all the way! My only complaint is the cooler walls are pretty thick and a little tough to stuff items inside, but not impossible. Theres only one pocket on the outside of the cooler and its kinda small. This is where I keep a full size metal spoon, knife and fork - but not much esle would fit....maybe a couple of napkins but that's about it. I would give up the pocket 10 times over and still buy this cooler. It really is amazing how cold it keeps my food. The little blue freezer packs are still partly ice at the end of about a 11-12 hour day! No cooler I've had has done that. As far as the size inside, for example, I packed 3 thin blue freezer packs, one slender glass bowl with chicken, protein bar, yogurt, banana, diet coke, orange and protein shake - so for as thick as the cooler is I think that's just fine.

The short comment on this bag: with good ice packs this is an awesome bag The 24 pack has been our main cooler for a spell and we wanted a slightly smaller version. This one performs just as well as the larger version, keeps items well insulated and cold. I don't know if I would call this a "12 pack" when the ice packs are used, I would estimate more like 8 cans will fit reasonably well. The top opening is narrower so putting in and removing items like sandwiches or like isn't as easy. For those who would use this as lunch bag, it is perfect. Will hold two canned drinks, pretty large sandwich, fruit and a few smaller condiments. Build quality is good, like the 24 pack version is. Just be careful to not put sharp objects inside that may puncture the lining. It is pretty tough but due care still needs to be observed. The straps that hold the fold top over are pretty tight and don't have the adjustability to loosen if the bag is "stuffed". They could have just left this as a non-adjustable clip. Even empty it is pretty tough to clip together. At least with the one we have. Combined with the Artic Ice Alaskan cooler packs, this little bag is excellent at keeping what needs to be kept cool, cool. Unfortunately those don't have a perfect fit in this bag so there is a bit of dead space to overcome. I use other ice packs in this one and they work well up to about 7 hours. Fine for the typical day trip where the food will be consumed within a handful of hours after initial packing. On milder days, this bag lasted through a golf tournament ~9 hours and kept the returning food at ~40F. (I prefer to have temps 34-36F but the ice packs used that day don't have that capability once they start to defrost.) Love this bag and the performance characteristics are well worth the price. Some color schemes are a bit less by a dollar or so.

Never thought I would find a soft cooler that performs as well as a good hard cooler, but I believe this one is it! I had the chance to put it through some extremes this past Memorial Day weekend in the central Alabama and Georgia heat, and it performed admirably. I used mostly the Polar Tech Ice Brix ice substitute, but used some real ice one day also. Let's just say, the beer was frosty and the ice remained through some pretty intense conditions--including trunk of the car and in the sun on the lake shore. My friend with his rolling Igloo was quite impressed. The construction of the cooler is first-rate, with heavy-duty materials, durable stitching and good-quality hardware. The liner, as others have said, is THICK, and I experience no leaking at all. The insulation is at least an inch thick on all sides and bottom. My only caveat is this: the 12-pack size is designed to hold two 6-packs of cans, one atop the other, with a bit of ice surrounding them. That is a tight fit, but doable. If you need room for extra ice replacement blocks, be prepared to leave some drinks out. If you drink bottles, you might have room for 8-10 and still have space for some ice. I love the size and carryability of this cooler, but for all-day outings the 24-pack size might make more sense. For the Polar Bear design team: Replacing the flat zippered exterior pocket with a gusset pocket would be great, as would pockets on both sides.

2012: I wrote this review in 2012 and forgot to hit submit!! Amazon saved it after all this time!! Lol All of my research paid off! I read review after review on so many different brand coolers and finally came to the decision to purchase the Polar Bear Cooler and I'm so pleased with this product. I've been on two picnics and two trips to the beach and each time all perishable products stayed super cold. On one occasion I forgot to remove cheese and a small carton of milk from the cooler and more than 10 hours later both items were still cold! On top of that, I did not experience any leaks at all! The carrying strap is great as I find it so much easier to carry large items like this over the shoulder vs by hand. Lastly, I love that this is not a hard case cooler. Because this is collapsable, I find it so much easier to handle. My next purchase will be a smaller collapsable cooler by Polar Bear for quick trips around town! August 2021!: still going strong! I just used my Polar Bear Cooler today and it kept my Melona frozen bars frozen after being in the cooler for almost 2.5 hours and in my hot car while I stopped at another store for more shopping. It was about 80 + degrees today in L.A. My bag has lost its black color and is now an ash grey but who the heck cares! Lol. IT WORKS! June 2023: STILL GOING STRONG! 11 years and counting!!

If you're a fan of craft beer like me, or more generally, cold beverages, there's nothing like a great cooler. You may already have several hard coolers but consider this soft cooler as part of your kit. This soft cooler is very comfortable to carry, especially with the included shoulder strap. The material and insulation is thick and keeps my beverages cold just like a regular hard cooler. In my most recent excursion, I packed it with some beers and ice in the early evening and those that I didn't finish, strange I know, were still cold the next day for a refreshing Sunday afternoon beer. Sure the material is a bit stiff but it's either that or use a cheap, thin soft cooler with less insulation and I hope you enjoy your warm beer. Keep it out of direct sun for best performance, but if you didn't already know that, maybe time to stop and reflect on your drinking. The included bottle opener attached to the zipper is a nice touch. The 12 pack size is probably best to hold beverages for 1 - 2 people. Unless you're like my girlfriend who can barely finish 1 beer, I would not consider the smaller 6 pack sized cooler. As side and very important benefit, since it doesn't immediately look like a cooler, the party goers who bring cheap beer or otherwise contribute nothing will not think to look into your cooler to steal one of your expensive craft beers that you took the time to select and bring.

I bought this ice chest specifically for motorcycle camping. It is excellent quality and the foam is noticeably thicker than other soft chests but it definitely works to keep your food cool. The liner is good thick quality and pulls outward easily for cleaning and drying. I took it out this weekend in a motorcycle camp out for 2 days. I had to load it laying on its side and on the way out, for about 150 miles it didn't leak at all. But that's less of a testament to the zipper seal and more of a testament to the fact that the ice didn't even begin to melt. On the way back I had quit a bit of water in with the ice and that definitely made its way out the zipper. Still, after 3 hours of riding through 90-100 degree weather my beer was still plenty frosty when it came time to crack it open when I got home. I will say this, the 12 is fairly small. But that also depends on what you pack in it. You don't need a lot of ice but the liner is fairly loose so you kinda lose a little space to some extra skin. Ultimately I am very happy with it. The materials and construction feel very heavy duty. I think this thing will be able to take a bit of a beating.

I previously purchased the Silver coloured 12 Pack Polar Bear cooler ( See My Review ) and decided I would purchased the Navy coloured 24 Pack for those larger outdoor events. The Navy colour is a soft deep navy blue that is very rich looking. When choosing the correct size for you're needs, its wise to keep in mind that the larger the cooler - the heavier they are to carry. For warranty be sure to register your cooler at www.polarbearcoolers.com. The inside vinyl liner of all Polar Bear Coolers is as thick or thicker than any pool liner and is a very beautiful glacier blueish / green colour. You can actually pull the liner outside of the nylon outer shell to clean it. The liner is still attached to the bag but it sure is a quick and easy way to clean the liner when when you have those occasional spills inside your cooler. Because all soft cooler expand and stretch the liner is not cut precisely to the inside shape of the bag. It is made larger for expansion for those that overfill their soft cooler and you will notice overlaps in the liner in the bottom of the bag. When you first get a Polar Bear cooler you put it back into shape by filling it full of hot water and snap it all up and leave it for 5 minutes. I left both of ours for 30 minutes and it was perfect in the end. The nylon outer covering is water proof and super durable and soft to the touch. The zipper and snaps are all quality and It comes with a plastic bottle opener and a shoulder strap. It's not much larger than the 12 Pack cooler on the outside, but it certainly holds significantly more on the inside. The 24 pack holds 12 bottles of water or bottles of beer standing upright, or 24 cans of pop laying ( stacked ) on their sides along with several Ice Packs. The 24 Pack unfortunately isn't quit large enough for a family weekend camping trip or any adventure where you need to transport food products as well as beverages. If you need anything larger than the 24 Pack I personally recommend you think of a "Hard Shell" for those type of events. This is a great size ( better than the 12 Pack ) for transporting meats or perishables for long periods of time. Like most things in life you only get what you pay for and in this case a few dollars more buys you a quality cooler that simply does what it says it's going to do: { KEEPS THINGS COLD }.

Here is exactly what a 12 Pack Polar Bear Cooler will Hold: Cans of Pop ( Pepsie and Cokes ) 355ml. It holds 12 cans of pop laying on there sides across the width of the bag, plus the 2 ice packs one at each end. It will hold 16 cans of pop or beer with no ice packs. Bottles of Water ( Walmart Great Value Brand / Nestle Pure Life ) 500ml. It holds 8 bottles of water "Standing Upright" with the 2 Ice packs one at each end. It will hold 12 bottles of water standing upright with no ice packs. Bottles of Beer ( Carling Light ). It holds 8 bottles of beer "Standing Upright" with the 2 Ice packs one at each end. It will hold 12 bottles of beer standing upright with no ice packs. I hope the above information helps you determine if the 12 Pack size is the correct Polar Bear Cooler for you. The 24 Pack is slightly larger and only $12. more and has an inside dimension of 12 Long X 6 Wide X 10 High ( courtesy of an Amazon.com reviewer ). The 24 Pack is as big of soft cooler as I would ever buy due to the weight involved when fully loaded. The 24 Pack is the correct choice for a family or a picnic and for the transporting of perishables in the back of your vehicle for long periods of time. The 12 Pack just isn't large enough for a family weekend camping trip or any adventure where you need to transport food products as well as beverages and keep these items cold for several days. If you need anything larger than the 24 Pack, I personally recommend you think "Hard Shell". Polar Bear coolers do cost more than any Coleman or Outback cooler of the same general size, but from my personal experience you had to fill both of these brands half full of ice packs because of their very thin insulation quality as compared to the insulation thats surrounding any Polar Bear Cooler. Like most things in life you only get what you pay for and in this case a few dollars more buys you a cooler that simply does what it says it’s going to do; KEEPS THINGS COLD. I recommend this 5 Star product to all.
