Lovely device.
Very lovely and I know how to use a sextant, I understand the square ND (Neutral Density) filters in the beam splitter path but the round ones must be purely decorative, because their are in neither optical path. A few touch ups and it could be a real usable instrument. But this is perfect for the intended purpose.

Quality is very good
I wanted to learn how to navigate by the stars not by computer as a backup. I bought the book also fantastic buy

Read dimensions
I thought it would be bigger and more substantial to put on a mantel with a telescope. It’s rather tiny. I display it on top of the box to minimize how small it is.It’s still really cool and unique! Parts appear high quality, and the box is beautiful.

Nice knick-knack
Purchased this as a shelf decoration and it fits the bill nicely. Substantial in the hand and well-made, thought it was going to be a little bit larger but overall happy with it.

Unusable table decoration
Does not work. It came with a large chip in the lens and not a usable device. I didn't plan on navigating with this item, but I hoped it would at least be true to the description and it would function a little. The angles were off by over 30 degrees, large lens chip which made it difficult to see through, and when I tried to flip the solar filters out they just broke off...

Don't Expect Too Much
For what I paid I wasn't expecting a precision instrument or anything. I've never understood how a sextant works. Even the videos I've seen were not much help. I decided the only way I was ever going to grasp the concept was to actually get my hands on one. If that's all you want it for, or maybe just a bit of nautical decoration, then I suppose this one will do. I would definitely not want to have to depend on it if I really needed to navigate accurately. You can line up the mirrors sort of close to proper alignment but the image is always going to be crooked and I see no means of correcting that. The horizon mirror is held on by a plain screw. Tilting the mirror will loosen the screw and then the mirror won't stay still and then of course, tightening the screw also moves the mirror. good luck getting anything lined up! No amount of adjusting will bring any image into anything like sharp focus. In fact the glass in the eyepiece appears to be plain, flat glass disks instead of lenses and one of them is chipped. I actually had better luck after removing the telescope altogether! If you want something that will actually allow you to take reasonably good readings, save your money and get a good instrument. This one is not good for much more than a novelty.
