I bought it as a gift for a friend who is a retired Navy. I don't know if it actually work or not, but it was meant to be a souvenir. If it works as advertise, that will be an added bonus although I can hardly imagine why would anyone buy it to use it for navigation. In any case, it looks very beautiful and the box looks really expensive. I just wished that it was a little bigger.

I thought it would be bigger and more substantial to put on a mantel with a telescope. It’s rather tiny. I display it on top of the box to minimize how small it is. It’s still really cool and unique! Parts appear high quality, and the box is beautiful.

Very lovely and I know how to use a sextant, I understand the square ND (Neutral Density) filters in the beam splitter path but the round ones must be purely decorative, because their are in neither optical path. A few touch ups and it could be a real usable instrument. But this is perfect for the intended purpose.

This makes a great decorative piece finished in antique brass. The box is also very nice. The box was bigger than I expected so I display it in a separate location. I felt like I got a bonus item. I have no idea how to use a sextant so I cannot comment on its functionality but as a decor piece I love it.

I woke up to open the shipment of this beautiful item. Great box for storage and protection. I love it. It’s sturdy brass and well designed. It’s a present for my son who is doing marine/nautical sciences school. He’s going to start figuring on out how sailors used to navigate in the past without all the current technology. This is a real working Sextant, easily coliminated, but took it to watchmaker to make sure all parts were there. The sun shades are Neutral Density standard and correct. Good Sextant for casual or ocean traveller. Needed some work tightening screws in box and gluing felt liner onto holder clamp. Minor stuff, using Youtube, how to's, made it easy. Great investment, will last for years.
