Ox Bay Organic Jute Woven Placemat, Natural, 1'3" x 1'3"

I bought these placemats because I needed a circle design with approximately a 15" diameter and wanted jute material to replace a lace doilie that I was using in the middle of my dark oak coffee table. The placemat is nicely made with an interesting design. I really did not need the second placemat but found a use for it also in my home. I do wish these were a little less thick and more uniform/even on the surface--for example, you cannot place a Willow Tree figurine on the placemat or it will tip over because the surface is not even. I am using objects with a larger base on the placemats so that drawback is not a problem for me. I'm not sure that I would want to use these as placemats either.. Would be difficult to clean, and glasses would not sit evenly on the surface and would be unstable.

So, lets get the bad part out of the way, these smell TERRIBLE. I walked passed them multiple times throughout the day and wanted to gag (and i have a collapsed airway and normally can barely smell a thing)...It is like not a chemical scent- thankfully - it is definitely more like dirt mixed with water mixed kind of scent.. but it is so strong and you cannot throw them washer because they jute. I do not have a driveway/backyard because I live in a townhouse in the city.. but if I did.. I would probably leave these out there for a few days just to air out.Good part: they’re so cute. Expect some minor deviation amongst them because they are handmade... but the deviation honestly makes them better because your guests will definitely be able to tell these are handmaid and not factory manufactured.. they are also very thick and accurate to size.I paired them with a macrame runner and some thai-style carved wood candle holders and I love my dining room now.I would give these 5 stars if not for the smell. But if you have a driveway or a backyard.. leave them out there a few days and treat this as a 5 star review!

I really like these placemats, they are beautiful in person. Very thick and are exactly what I hoped for. I purchased 12 but had to return 4 for replacement due to quality. Seller replaced quickly. I think since these are made by hand each are slightly different which makes them more lovely to me. Definitely a good purchase.
