As I read the book I noticed this several times like with Myoshi
I have had this book sitting on my self for a little while and finally got around to reading it. A lot of what was promised to be in the story was glanced over such as the impact of Leanna's condition or the cultural differences for the various races. There was not even a scene where Leanna had a break down of culture shock. I think that this goes back to the writer in that he does not want to push himself. As I read the book I noticed this several times like with Myoshi. She is clearly not comfortable with Leanna and will break up with her, but instead gets reassigned instead and in another case Leanna says she is hypersensitive and can not wear a the top to her clothes, but has a special top for when she do or nobody objects to her walking around with no top.One of the biggest examples of what the writer missed in his own story was that his main character had more backstory that would have been a great opportunity to tell and fill in the gaps. Leanne was a spy and that in itself would have been great fodder to use for the story or to stretch it out into it's own series. Especially when it came to how she was able gather everything she needed at the start of the book.

Disappointed
As I read the beginning of this book I felt like I was getting the chance to read a great novel full of unique twists and unimaginable creativity. Well after the first chapter that quickly fell. [spoiler warning] The rest of the story after Leanna is rescued is boring and lacks any substantial plot. I originally picked this up in the hopes that reading something completely different from my normal selection would elicit some creative ideas for my own writing. I was, of course, horribly mistaken. I'm not unfamiliar to the furry community and have read some fan fic's in the past and I must say that those hastily written fan fics hold up better in both character and romantic development than More Terrible Than Chains. Speaking of the title, I thought that it was quite clever but also disappointed that more wasn't done with it. Another point about why this is not a good story can be found in another review and it reads, "The conflicts that arise chapter by chapter are uninteresting and conclude quickly."In short, if you want an example of how to NOT write a novel then look no further.

Always loved Bernard Doove
So I read that book pretty fast. You could say I ate it almost from the beginning to the end. So it would be fair to say that I loved it. Bernard Doove never disappointed me when it came to his world of Chakat that he describe so well. This story focus more on a slave that was found by our favorite characters. Her struggle to trust again and other hurdles of everyday life. It was a good read and I was happy with it.

I loved this book
I loved this book. A lot of it really made me think about the situations involved and I found my self grow quite fond of the characters. While the themes in the book can be considered a bit dark the story is written in a way that makes one hopeful as well, and leaves you longing to read more about these characters. I plan to buy the rest of the books as I find them.

Great story but reduced artwork content
This story got me over a bad spot in my life when I first read the paperback edition. I wanted a copy I could re-read whenever the mood struck but didn't take up as much room. So I grabbed it the day it hit the Amazon store. There is more artwork in the paperback edition. If that's important to you, I recommend spending the extra bucks. For me, the words are enough, so I don't miss the few pictures that the author had to cut to make the eBook file size fit within a limit imposed on him by one of his distribution channels.Disclaimer: I have also reviewed the paperback edition.

More wonderful than words
I loved this story. It reminded me of Heinlein's "Citizen of the Galaxy", some of Andre Norton's early works and just about every other SF "coming of age" story I've ever read in the 50-odd years I've been reading SF.No, the writing isn't up to Heinlein's level. (Not yet -- I'm going to keep watching this author!) And as in "Life's Dream" I was left wanting a little more deviousness in the plot. But the story has such a wonderful cast of characters!Imagine Cordwainer Smith's "underpeople" in a Star Trek-like civilization. Now imagine an unscrupulus gene-sculptor deciding that hard-wiring slavery at the genetic level is a good idea. Add the fact that virtually any new technology will almost certainly get used for sexual purposes. And you wind up with a segment of the Chakat universe (the Non-Aligned Planets) where slavery is legal and virtualy every combination of species can be a sex slave.Leanna is a one-off custom design. Based on a fennic fox and with both male and female "equipment", she (or "shi") is subjected to terrible sexual sadism and conditioned to accept it -- and the combination of the gene-sculpting and conditioning is "More Terrible than Chains". Shi is also a sometime industrial spy; shi is a lot smarter than shi lets on. Shi will prevail and you will cheer. If you don't mind the adult content (and it isn't gratuitous -- it's necessary to the story and to explain the characters' motivations) and the idea of an anthropomorph hasn't stretched your suspension of disbelief to the breaking point, try this book.

A good read, but not for this price.
I had heard great things about this artist, and especially this book, from a friend. Don't get me wrong, this book had a great many adult themes, and it shined there. But there was hardly any plot, the only conflict was an internal one. And it was clear right from the prologue that the author even made those not matter at all if the plot called for it.Now, don't get me wrong! There were interesting parts in this book! They just seemed to get swept aside so that there could either be a sex scene or the narration could drill into your head how poor and helpless the character is. A little more conflict could have made this book amazing, but as it is, I'm afraid it's subpar.
