Thermo-Tec13200 40" X 8" Battery Heat Barrier Kit , Silver

Replacing the battery on my VW Golf and it appears that the car came with a small battery which is now more expensive. Going with a bigger battery which has better specifications and it cheaper. Unfortunately this means that the factory "battery box" which is really just an insulating wrap will not fit. Could have purchase the bigger OEM battery box from VW but ridiculously expensive for what it is. Found this option which cost half as much as the OEM part. I will have to cut it to fit (as intended) but the materials are actually much better than the OEM part. Thicker insulation AND actual heat shielding. Will have to be careful to avoid contact between terminals and heat shielding. While it is big enough for my battery ... I don't know that it would be big enough for some deep cycle batteries.

Pro's- Great battery blanket to protect the battery from engine heat- The foil will reflect radiant heat away (also conductive see Con's)- Black blanket material is a great insulatorCon's- It is a touch expensive for some heavy guage foil and insulation- Foil surface is conductive. I wrapped the battery in some high temperature clear tape as an insulator. This coating would be appreciated from the manufacturer.Would I buy again. Yes, most definitely, quality product, way better than OEM junk.

Conductive mat near battery cables, just does not seem to be a good idea. I did have some arc while installing as it will ground easily. It is the positive side you need to worry about. I protected it as i could and it seems that the foil will recede once it starts sparking without catching fire. I trusted it enough to leave it in for now.

I upgraded the battery on our car with a slightly larger one. That meant the original battery shield did not fit, so i purchased this kit to replace it. I found it very easy to cut the material to size, and it actually looks better and insulates better than the original shield.

I was killing my battery from my car sitting out in the direct sun. This is the only aftermarket insolator available. With a heavy duty pair of scisoors I cut to size and wrapped battery. This should also help this winter.
