Ernie Ball Mammoth Slinky Nickel Wound Electric Guitar Strings, 12-62 Gauge (P02214)

Had these on my PRs since march 2025, it’s dec and 2025. These things handle my drop c tuning very well and could go lower. My only wish the 25w wasn’t w but other than that it’s an excellent set

The best strings if you like lower A, B or C tuning. I have always gone with this brand and I don’t think I’d go with any other.

Normally I play with Cobalt strings, or very VERY light, flexible, soft strings. But I recently got a vintage ‘68-‘69 Teisco Kimberly Tobacco Sunburst, with original, single coil, Gold Foil pickups (the thing is a damn MASTERPIECE! But I was having some issues with getting a solid, heavier/bolder tone from my pickups with multiple separate sets of strings tried and was disappointed each time. Was about to just say screw it, and have it looked at by a better guitar technician than me (I’m great with US/UK guitars, but as far as Japanese ones [and another one from Soviet Russia that needs some work] I’d definitely feel better to just have a professional with more experience poke around them) but man these THICCCC ass strangz definitely seem to have made the difference!! Great budget strings for down tuning, I'd recommend these for anything Drop C and lower. I usually run these for Drop B but I was able to go all the way down to Drop G (although it was a bit loose for me). Sound is also great, very thick and the sustain is incredible. One thing I must warn about is that the lowest string may be just a little too thick for some tuning pegs, but I haven't had any issues with my guitars. In summary, if you don't want to custom order a pack for down tuning on a six string, get these.

Strings gauges are all about preference. Whether you love the sound and have the feeling, or love the feeling and hate the sound. I have never found a good single pack that I could use to fit what tuning I play in most of the time (Drop Bb). Mammoth is perfect for this situation for me. I feel like I can go to Drop B and Drop A without much compromise in feel or tone. I use a Standard scale Telecaster (humbuckers) to play metalcore and rock for reference. Not sure how these would fair on the Gibson scale length. Overall I recommend these if you are looking for good tension and tone at Tunings Drop B, Bb, and A.

For years I have used Fat bottoms and skinny tops from Ernie Ball, these are the first time I have used this gauge. I play a whole step down from standard to "D" but these strings work great in "C". The warmness and tone are great. I use a Dimebucker on the bridge and a Seymour Duncan SH-1n '59 on the neck, playing through a 20 watt orange crush practice amp. In my opinion these would be great to fill in lower end tones on single coil pick ups

They feel very nice, keep in tune well, the sound is very good as any other Ernie Ball strings. In my experience, they do best with Drop A tuning or Drop B, otherwise it feels too tense.

Great strings for low tunings

Corde perfette per avere una tensione perfetta sulla mia chitarra accordata in drop B (Gisbon Les Paul). L'unica modifica (per i miei gusti) che faccio è sostituire la corda più grande con una corda di una scalatura più bassa, quindi metto una corda più piccola.
