Broken City [DVD] [2013]

This would have to be a very well thought out movie to come up with a great storyline and finding the actors to fit the role that makes it fantastic, action and full on suspense keeping you glued to the seat not wanting to leave. Corrupt people all around what do we expect a goodie and baddie, well the goodie does something wrong and than is used for other things, What is that, yes that's all I'm telling I don't like to spoil the shows with all details so I rated this an A grade plus for entertainment that keeps the interest going not letting up at anytime. Have you picked up the popcorn yet as you are going to need it so to relax with your feet up and relish in this fabulous show of excitement and thrills and spills going at a fast pace. Enjoy!

I like MW hence my purchase of this dvd. Not what I expected of an MW movie although he did admit in his interview in Extras it was a small budget film. Crowe was not at his best and I felt was miscast. Speech at times was difficult to pick up, which I seem to find in more movies occasionally recently. Without MW, would have given up half way through. Still, it was ok but not riveting.

"Broken City" is a gripping drama/thriller set in the middle of a New York mayoral election. Mark Wahlberg and Russell Crowe head up an impressive cast and make the film what it is.Wahlberg plays an ex cop who is now a private investigator and who is hired by the incumbent mayor to get proof of his wife's adultery. However Wahlberg soon gets immersed into a web of corruption ,intrigue and murder which all seems to lead to the mayor's office. There is a sub plot featuring Wahlberg's relationship with his girlfriend, but this ends rather abruptly and was unnecessary to the plot. Wahlberg's young assistant would have made a much better love interest. The acting in this film was good , as was the storyline ,which was however a little over complicated at times. A reasonably intelligent movie.

A gripping film

This is a good thriller I was about to give up on it when I was a third of the way in but I'm glad I didn't it was a good story. My biggest problem is with amazon as I'm an amazon prime subscriber and often pre order films well in advance so I can get the film on its release day but on the last three occasions I've been let down. I don't know why they keep using Royal Mail as it never arrives on time when they do, so come on amazon I use prime so I get next day delivery or at least that's the idea.

Classic case of all star cast, but the movie itself just doesn’t give. Only reviewing as I think the 4 stars it has is too high.Switched off a few times as the dialogue was cringy bad. It just felt like the movie was off a Hollywood mass production line, good actors, a plot that had been done lots of times, depressing droning background music.. a passable movie but not really worth your time.

Another amazing performance from Crowe. And equally from Walberg (who I've previously found does comedy better than gritty). His portrayal of defective disgraced turned PI, is hard and real. And in my opinion, his best to date.Corruption at the top and in politics is nothing new, but Crowe and Walberg bring this drama to life. Add a dash of Zeta-Jones and the cocktail is volatile, and tense.Highly recommend!

Not my usual genre. I tend to keep away from this kind of cops type movie. This one had plenty of intrigue and was a little slow at the start but I liked the moodiness and contrasts of low and high life's. Overall it was good. Not too sure about yet another sex over the table scene, even though it was tastefully distanced. It was entertaining towards the end to find out exactly who did the cuckolding.

Cuando vi esta película quise comprarla en Blu Ray. Iba a adquirir la versión de ZIMA pero hallé Broken City en blu ray de importación en oferta y me salió mucho mejor. La imagen se ve muy bien y sin sufrir alteraciones durante la reproducción, tiene audio original en alta definición con doblaje hecho en Argentina (al menos se hizo el esfuerzo para que las actuaciones no fueran forzadas). Aunque no vienen subtitulados, incluyen extras para conocer un poco más sobre la película. Esta es la versión que vale la pena comprar.

Bought this for a friend and when I gave it to him, he tried to watch it. Only to find he can not play it in this area. Whatever that means.
