Birchwood Casey Tru-Oil Gun Stock Finish 8 oz Liquid

On my third stock. Easy to use. Works great. 80 year old wood looks like fine furniture.

Quality stock finish. It is clear, doesn’t hide wood grain. Dries quickly. Starts as a soft satin finish that seals the wood. As coats are added and rubbed in the finish is glossier. Durable and easily repaired. My go to finish for gun stocks.

Great product. It really adds a shine and rich finish to wood. Wear gloves when applying at it is hard to get off of if your hands.

I did 3 layers of finish after washing the cosmoline off with some alcohol then sanding lightly. Give it time to cure, don't get greedy. Once it cures it looks better than factory and is stupidly durable. Highly recommend for combloc "sticks".

I used this stuff to finish an unfinished guitar neck and body. The key is today very thin layers. I would put one layer on in the morning and one at night. I started with 400 grit and moved through the grits and finished with 3000 grit. This stuff takes time to cure. If you did thin coats you could work with the body or neck in about two weeks. Heavy coats do not work well and will never dry. Plan for a month to really cure well. Ten coats on the body still shows the wood grain. I used it on a white paulownia body. The Tru oil has a slight tan color. That was a gift. I didn’t want to buy stain or color. Good stuff if you use it properly.

I have used this product on a few occasions in the past (the first time was around 1966). I needed to touch up the top of an older table that we had acquired, and it was my go-to solution. It is very easy to use compared to common varnishes that I have used to finish wood trim, and is much better for matching the gloss of adjacent existing finishes (with a little buffing with very fine steel wool).

My bottle of tru-oil arrived without the cap. Luckily the foil seal was intact. The product itself is awesome.
