Why does my camera say "Lens not attached" or unrecognized ?

This is a full manual focus lens, no electric contacts, your camera will not detect the lens when mounted, pls switch camera to M mode to work, some camera need setting menu" shutter release w/o lens" to enable to make lens work.

Is manual focus hard to use?

It takes practice, but the precise control over focus allows for creative photography.

Why doesn't the camera display the aperture value?

As the manual lens has no electronic contacts, so F--” is displayed. The aperture cannot be adjusted, it can only be automatically changed by adjusting the focal length,420mm/F8.3→500mm/F10→600mm/F12→700mm/F14→800mm/F16

Does this lens have image stabilization?

Because this is a fully manual telephoto lens without electronic communication with the camera body, where the aperture varies with the focal length. Therefore, the camera body typically cannot display the aperture value.

Yes, a sturdy tripod is highly recommended for best results due to the extreme focal length
