Great rod, will buy another
Great rod! Bought this & a 15ft Okuma rod at the same time but my next rod will be another of the 12 footers as I feel it's the perfect size for surf fishing. As previous reviews stated, the sections did stick together after the third trip but came out later w/ soapy water. I then lightly sanded the joints w/300 grit and have had no problems the last 4trips out. If you have to fit the rod into a vehicle for transport, the sticking would be much more of an issue so make sure to sand those joints.

I'm a pretty big guy
This is a review of the quality of this rod. I used it for a season of Atlantic Beach fishing and it held up very well. It has probably been cast over 300 times I would guess and has shown no signs of wear and tear. I rinse it off after every use and it has kept well. this rod was probably half the price on amazon than in the store at the beach, probably 25% cheaper than dicks. One point of contention really has more to do with me than the rod. I bought the largest version I could get my hands on and that was a mistake. I think it is either 12 or 10 feet and it is damn near impossible to really get full use of that much length, primarily because it is so hard to control. I'm a pretty big guy, but there is no finessing this thing. With a 2.5oz or bigger weight on the tip you better be super careful with your timing of the release. It probably took me 20 tries to get my cast right, with my father-in-laws 2 foot shorter model I can do it first try. This rod doesn't make much of a difference in cast length, I would say about 10 feet better than the shorter version and infinitely more difficult. I would say buy this rod for the quality and price, no one will make fun of you because it is not a $200 rod, just stick with a manageable length, like 8ft or whatever is the next to longest.

HORRIBLE PRODUCT & COMPANY - **MUST READ** - BEWARE
I don't often write reviews whether or positive or negative, but felt it important to write this one due to the awful customer service of the manufacturer. I bought the 12ft version of this pole less than 2 months ago. I have only used it 4 times. The largest eyelet (guide) closest to the reel completely broke apart into pieces, and there is rust on some of the others. It was kept safe and never dropped. It simply fell apart. Look, I understand that this is a cheaper rod. However, I expected Okuma to stand behind their product and make good on it. The only way they were going to replace my rod, was if I cut a section of the rod out, and sent it back to them, to Canada, at MY expense. Then they would mail me a new one. I said that was ridiculous for me to have to pay to mail a section internationally out of my pocket. I even offered to cut it up and take pics to email them to prove that I was not trying to keep 2 rods. They said no. I also felt that I shouldn't have to wait that long to get the replacement. I said to send me a new one with a return packing label and I would put the old one in the box and send it back. They said no. They tried to tell me that they were doing me a favor because normally it would be $15 for shipping! REALLY? FOR YOUR DEFECTIVE PRODUCT? Clearly this happens often if they will not stand behind their product and need to charge unfortunate customers who receive faulty equipment. Buyer Beware. No rod should rust and fall apart that quickly. I have Walmart poles for years that are still functioning. Just thought I would share and warn future purchasers.

better than i thought
i originaly ordered this rod, as an anchor pole for my king fish rig. i used an ugly stick at first but needed something a little stiffer. for $29 this pole can't be beat. its a great buy. i got the 12 ft med action to get some distance on my anchor. i should, or just might get the 16footer for surf casting. i live 10 miles from a bass pro s, and searched for a rod like this, but the price was too high. so i took the chance for $29.00, and okuma has a good reputation. i'm really happy with this. can't wait for warm weather and hit the piers..watch out kingfish, i'm comin for ya!!

not a bad rod for a big un
You get what you pay for, not a bad rod for a big un! I bought the 12' rod for surf fishing in Destin and it did the job. Don't expect Fuji eyelets as they are very cheaply made. ONE BIG DETAIL TO PAY ATTENTION TO - this is a two piece rod so it packs long and make SURE you take some light sand paper to the lower section BEFORE you put it together. If you don't you probably wont get it apart for the remainder of your natural days on planet earth. One last tip, DO NOT, I repeat NOT spray the lower section like I did to clean and lubricate my salt water gear after a week at the beach. It created a vapor lock and nothing more odd than heading home with a surf rod bungy corded to the luggage rack.

Too big and bulky
I think the rod - for a somewhat lightweight capability 10-30 lb line- is too big and bulky. When I pull this thing out others on the beach think I’m fishing for sharks because of its thickness and size.

Just like buying expensive golf clubs won't make you a better ...
The "Pros" in the fishing shop will try to convince you to buy something more expensive, but I gotta say, save your money. Just like buying expensive golf clubs won't make you a better golfer, a better pole isn't going to land any more fish, unless you have this sport dialed in, and even then, a good fisherman can make this work. They laughed when I told them I wanted a 12' pole. I'll admit it might be a little over kill, because often times, I just need to flip out just past the slough. But for times when I want to get out to the kelp paddy, this will get it done. An 8' pole isn't going to cut it. About the pole....it is well made, has good action, everything is tight. It takes a little more muscle to work, so for the wife or kids, look at the 10' pole. Okuma has all sizes covered...just pick the one that you think is right for you and have fun!

Empaque
Es una buena caña, cumple con lo descrito, pero llego muy rayada, sucia y una anilla chueca, tal vez se golpeo con la otra parte de la vara, muy mal empaquetada, deberían de ponerle mas atención a eso.
