BEST DRUM MIC
I have to say for the ultra low-price, you are getting a METAL CASE FOAM PADDED with LOCKING HATCHES, HIGH QUALITY MICS MADE OF MAGNESIUM METAL HOUSING AND GOLD XLR PINS, VERY TIGHT AND EXCELLENT DRUM MOUNT CLIPS WITH METAL SCREWS, MIC STAND ADAPTER (with convertible size from mini to a 5/8th standard mic stand diameter)... The attention to detail on the mics are great. At first, I thought the mics were plastic housing with plastic mesh... ONCE I RECEIVED IT, I KNEW I WAS WRONG.... ALL THE MICS are magnesium body and are quite weighty for their size. the metal body is actually quite thick, and feels rugged. All the XLR pins are indeed gold plated... The meshes are all metal with built-in windscreen on the under-side of the mesh... For the price, the construction and durability of the Pyle Pros seems to be top-notch! The quality of the mics are very similar to the 7-piece AUDIX drum mic kit, but at the cost much much less... EXCELLENT QUALITY for recording with the right EQs and recording settings.. With all the mics, it really give an excellent soundstage playing it back... (((*** I am using an AKG Q701 and AKG K702 and AudioTechnica M50 for playback))) The only mics that NEED PHANTOM POWER are the overhead condensers. All the tom/snare and the bass drum mics are dynamic mics and can run with out phantom power. Having said that, you can run the tom/snare and bass drum mics with either XLR to XLR cable or a XLR to 1/4" cable.... I also found the condenser mic to be bit multi-functional... (Since I don't use the included overheads for my drum recording (I used my old pair of SM57s), I am using the Pyle Pro condensers on my PC as a general Skype conferencing microphone, and it works GREAT as a speaking microphone... The drum mounts are VERY EXCELLENT... It is EXTREMELY TIGHT snap on your drum rims... In my case, I am recording my Yamaha Birch Custom Absolutes which has die-cast rims, and it clips on extremely well. I also tried the mounts on my Yamaha Recording Custom which has the triple-flanged Dynahoops, and snaps on just as well as my Yamaha BCAs... The only downside with the mic mount is that taking it off require a bit of a force.... And since I constantly changing my drumkits for recording different genres, getting the clip off can be a bit troublesome... (If you are using the mics on just ONE drumkit, then it should be no problems.... I really like the metal case.. It feels good, and I do not have to worry about bumps and putting my drums on top of the case in the back of my trunk when I go for a live gig (Yes, I also used these for Live as well)... For the price, getting the metal case is an ultra-bonus. From other competing brands, you are only going to get a soft case or a plastic molded hard case and it would actually cost around $200... With the price of the Pyle Pros approx $120, you are getting High-Qualty Magnesium Mics, Good Designed Clips, Metal Case etc.. is a STEAL FORGET ABOUT THE BIG BRANDS... Get the NOBODY KNOWS BRAND : Pyle Pro, and snicker at other people who spent loads of money on getting the BIG BRANDS, but SAME QUALITY! Higher Price DOES NOT EQUALS TO Higher Quality The Pyle Pro PDKM7s are CHEAP and are EXCELLENT QUALITY... My recommendation is BUY NOW!!!!

Great for home recording drums
The Pyle PDKM7 mic package is designed for drums, but the mics will work on other instruments also. I purchased the mics specifically for recording my 5 piece drum set, and the occasional live show. Immediately I was impressed with the package. The case is not the typical cheesy plastic case included with entry level priced mics. It includes enough mics for a 5 piece drum set, and overhead condensers. The clips for mounting the snare and tom mics are also included, as are the necessary mic clips for mounting the condenser mics to a mic stand. These mics actually exceeded my expectations. I mixed the drums down (after a proper tuning and working with the mic placement of coarse), and ran them through a pre-amp to my computer. I dialed them in good enough to not be forced to use any of the FX included in my DAW, resulting in the more natural sound that I was seeking. The condenser mics are especially nice, and I probably could use them, and the snare and bass drum mics to capture my drums without mic'ing the toms. The clips that are included hold the mics tight to the drum rims, and you can adjust how close you want the mic to the drum head easily. The only complaint that I have is that the threads on the mic clips are plastic, and will probably strip out eventually. Not much of an issue because I only paid $135 for the entire package. I highly recommend the PDKM7 instrument mic package to musicians looking to capture their drums in a home recording studio at a price that won't break the bank.

Way too much analysis for a $150 set of drum mics? They are fine...
These are very, very nice for the price. The condensers get a very nice quiet noise floor and capture the tone of my cymbals very well. I play a bit darker-sounding cymbal set than most and I like to get a bit more upper-mid range in the condensers. These have the warmth to capture that. Actually the two condensers and the kick mic are a pretty adequate rig. The kick mic is not a Beta 52. Don't let your imagination go crazy. With inside the drum micing it particularly shines - middle of the drum aimed at the beater impact point. Give a steep parametric boost around 8k and keep the rest flat for a nice tap and punch. There is plenty of body and low end. You may want to roll some of that off for certain types of music. It does particularly well outside the resonant head without a hole. It is very "present" in even a crowded mix because the low frequency boost is a wide spectrum. Be careful to EQ out some space for the bass guitar or you will have a VERY muddy mix with this mic. Like I said...it isn't a Beta 52. There is no "set it and forget it" here. With some care this is a useful mic and an improvement over using a vocal mic (or SM57). The mounts aren't my favorite as they take considerable space above the drum. Some setups would be more forgiving with this but space is tight on my recording rig. They do, however allow the placement that I like to use with a boom stand -1" above the rim aimed at the impact point. The tone is fine. Tune your drums and you will get nice sounds out of these...comparable to the Shure PGs or most decent dynamic vocal mics. I still prefer the SM57 on the snare. It's a bit hotter and at the same gain captures more of the instrument. I'm really cheap in this wonderful age of budget music gear. I don't have a lot of expendable $ for microphones. Do you? If you do, check out the set with 3 SM57s and a Beta 52 and add two SM81s or get all fancy with a pair of AKG 414s. You will get in that setup for $600-$2000. Your four-piece kit will be in heaven and you can spend less time EQ-ing your mics and more time driving your 911 Turbo. Otherwise, pick this set up, check out some YouTube vids on mic placement and using a parametric EQ and start saving up for your 911 Turbo.

Good value, good tone, lasted 5 years
I bought 2 of these packs, one in 2011 and another in 2014. I use these mics to record ONLY, so if you need a live sound review, look elsewhere. I've had these mics on my big maple toms as they didn't sound that great on my snare which is primarily a 14x10 mahogany beast with wood hoops. It sounds fatter than Kim Kardashians back side. As of February 2020, one of the mics started picking up this NASTY distorted buzz. After unscrewing the cap, I found that the glue had come undone and the internals were rattling around in the grille. That is the first and only problem I've had with them after 9 and 5 years, respectively. Tit. entire kit costs around the same as ONE sm57 or Audix i5. That's a pretty good return on investment. I compress my drums pretty heavily and run them through some mild distortion and a bit of reverb. These mics handle that scenario very well. I also hit my mics sometimes and they hold up to the abuse from the rock sticks I use. The sound quality, imo, is pretty darn good so long as you like a warm, fat low end with decent mids and muted highs. It works for me. As long as you have a decent sounding mixer or interface, you can get clean recordings. Is there a difference between these and more expensive boutique mics? Of course. But if you're on a budget and don't mind experimenting with compression and eq, these boys can hold their own in a recording environment.

Wow, surprisingly good quality!
So surprised I can't even explain it. For the price you really can't beat it. I run a recording studio in Denver, CO and I needed a set of drum mics for an upcoming session but didn't have the dough to get the AT set. Went ahead and took my chances with this and have been extremely blown away. So the kick mic I will admit is garbage for an actual kickdrum, but I have found it to be a great use for the floor toms and even for a beater side of a kickdrum, as the frequency response isn't as low as it should go. Also sounds great on bass cabs. The tom/snare mics are also fantastic as they are transformerless and therefore give a little more bottom to them as opposed to say a standard SM57. I really dig the tom sound with them. The clips are fantastic and can be utilized with any mic clip and mic. My go to setup nowadays is the Pyle tom/snare mics on the toms and bottom snare, A 57 on top snare and a Beta57 for the Kick. I will admit I NEVER use the pencils but that's also because I have quite a few really nice pairs of them so I have no need for them. I have since moved up to the Telefunken drum mic setup which is vastly superior but in an ENTIRELY different price range. I now use these for my mobile rig and stage setup. I would recommend these to anyone looking to get their feet wet with drum mics and don't really know what they want yet, and definitely for anyone doing live sound. For the price this can't be beat and you'll never tell the difference between them and AudioTechnicas through a PA unless maybe it's a Funktion One. Just do it, honestly, take the chance.

Fantastic sound, fantastic price.
Originally I was looking at a CAD brand kit, but when I saw the price on this one, and that it came in a hard metal case (the CAD kit comes in a padded duffle bag) I knew which one to go with. This kit was almost half the price with similar specs. All the mics are solidly built, and the kit comes with 3/8 to 5/8 adapters for stands. However, mine were screwed on so tightly I had to use pliers to loosen them up, causing a bit of aesthetic damage. The overheads are pretty nice, perfect for what they are made for. If you use them as a close mic, though, they aren't the best. The snare/tom mics are really good. When aimed at the center of the toms, the sound is really nice and punchy. Great balanced attack. On the snare, it was hard to get the same effect. There is an impact that is lacking in the sound, but more than likely you can get that in EQing. I've used one of the tom mics as an internal kick drum mic close to the beater, and that worked really well. The kick drum mic is by far the best in the kit. It has a very similar sound to the Audix D6 in my opinion. For being so much cheaper, it's surprising how close it sounds to an industry standard. Overall, Pyle did a fantastic job with this set. Any of the short comings on the mics can be fixed by a professional mixer who is worth his salt. Especially when you compare the price to leading brands. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a good drum mic kit. I absolutely love it!

An ok set for the money, but you can and should buy better! I would return them if I could!
I am using these to mic up my hand percussion kit, 2 Conga drums, set of bongos, tambourine on a kick pedal, chimes, shakers, and such. Due to the whole Covid thing, we have converted to an acoustic band from a regular full on electric rock band. I needed something to get my kit into the mix, and give my hands a brake, so I don't have to hit them as hard. On my full kit I use Audix microphones, and love them. But I figured for this use, a cheaper set would be adequate due to the lower SPL's created by the hand percussion equipment. The kit is nicely packaged in an aluminum storage case with foam cut-outs for the mics. The initial quality of the microphones looked good at first, but after the first use, the threads in one of the microphones stripped out. That is very disappointing. It would be nice if they had a metal insert instead of just the molded plastic threads. The sound quality is not wonderful. Yes it is adequate, but just barely. They don't reproduce the natural hand percussion drum sounds, so I really have to fiddle with the mixer to get them to natural. I would have loved to be able to alter the mix on them and get a fuller richer sound, but due to the fiddling, I can't get them to mix like I would want them to sound. With the EQ settings, my mic gains are stressed and feedback and noise are just on the brink. Recap: They are ok, not great. You do get a lot of mics, and mounting clips for the money. But you do get what you paid for. I may be a little biased, and perhaps overly critical since I have been fortunate to have used Audix and Sure drum microphones for the last 30+ years, and know that I shouldn't expect that kind of quality for a set up costing 1/3 the price of the aforementioned brands. My advice, if you can afford or justify buying a better quality brand, you should do it. If this set is right for your budget, then buy it, but be forewarned about the issues. They are better than a lot of the bargain basement mics on the market, and might work out fine for what your using them for. Thanks for your time,

Great Sound, Great Value
This is a great set of microphones for mic'ing a drum kit. It contains everything you need except for three stands (one for the kick drum mic, and two for the condenser mic's) and seven XLR microphone cables. There are a couple of things you need to be aware of regarding setup, though. One is that the 3/8" stand attachments that are in all the mic's and the condenser mic holders are removable (use a pair of pliers if you can't unscrew them by hand). If you're going to use the clamps to attach the tom/snare mic's to the, ummm, toms and snare, you don't need (or want) to remove the adapters, as it's the 3/8" attachment that you need (see below). But if you're attaching the condenser mic's to regular boom stands, you'll need to unscrew the adapters from the mic holders, revealing the 5/8" screw-in that you need. The biggest problem with this kit is that they don't tell you how to attach the tom/snare mic's to the tom/snare mounting clamps. I could not for the life of me figure it out, so I went to Pyle's website, and found a YouTube video review of the kit. This in itself wasn't very helpful, but the guy who did the review also made another vid that told me how to attach the mic's to the clamps. Here's a link: [...] If the link doesn't work (or Amazon whacked it, as they sometimes do in reviews), search YouTube for "Pyle-Pro PDKM7 How To Use The Clamps". Basically, you use the included 3/8" threaded bolts to attach the mic's to the clamps by screwing the bolt through the slot in the clamp, then screwing the mic onto the bolt. Watch the video; he does a great job of showing you what you need to do. Anyway, in summary, these are really good microphones at a really great price point. Highly recommended!

Great Value
Didn't really know what to expect from these, but I needed to mic a real kit for a project (usually run samples on a e-kit), and bought these to at least get use through the first couple of tracks. I figured at worse I could use them for live gigs, and not worry about racking up expensive mic's. They have nice build quality, as well as the case. The clips could be a little sturdier, but they get the job done, and can accommodate SM57's if you have the right style mic clip. The mic's themselves sound fantastic, especially considering the price range. Used the full setup on my Yamaha stage custom studio kit, with great results. Would definitely recommend for someone on a budget. I used the kick mic a few times live, to boost the kick a little. It worked great for adding a little thump. I will probably end up upgrading the kick mic to a D112, and continue using the rest of the kit until I get a few more projects out the door. Will definitely keep these on hand as a backup. I highly recommend!
