Best guess is somewhere in China. Under product info about halfway down the description page it says Intradin (Shanghai) Import & Export Co., Ltd. The motor (On my unit) is from LCT and according to their website http://lctusa.com/ They are a USA company, but it does look like manufacturing is in China.

Does the machine come with covers for the main hopper and chipper chute to max. suction when using the vacuum attachment?

The chute has a cover that works well and the main hopper has a slide gate to close it off.. Both work great for the suction portion of the machine

Has anyone tried to feed cardboard or wood chips into it? I would like to reduce my wood chip pile to a finer material for better composting

I have never tried cardboard so I don't know the answer to this question. I would try putting the wood chips into to top side of the chipper where you can put small branches and leaves; this gives a finer mulch.

Will this chop garden waste like tomato plants and corn stalks?

Should handle corn stalks easily esp if they are dried out.
