Not high-end but decent for the price
This XL Twin mattress protector from Rio Home Fashions is a decent, inexpensive mattress protector. The top was a surprise because it's made of a plush velour that is quilted with 1 1/2" of polyester, fiberfill batting. The velour feels wonderful underneath your sheet and will likely trap warmth - good for people who like to sleep warm. It's definitely not 3" thick as indicated in the product description, though. The batting is not of super high quality and will likely compress fairly quickly. The sides are made of a thin, nylon knit with elastic all the way around. The pockets are deep enough for even a thick mattress.Because this is not a cotton mattress pad, you should dry it on very low temp (or even air setting) to avoid damaging the fiberfill batting and the nylon sides. This will not in any way serve to soften the feel of a firm mattress but it's decent for protecting your mattress from sweat and body oils that might make it through your sheets. I prefer a 100% cotton mattress pad because I get hot at night but my son thinks this is just fine. I put it on a guest bed and it fit perfectly and protects the mattress - which is exactly what I bought this for.The price should tell you that this is not a top-of-the-line mattress pad and it likely won't hold up for a long period of time but for a guest room or for a kid's bed, it's a comfortable solution that is affordably priced.

They're actually not lying, it really is "overfilled"
Can't believe I'm saying this, but it is actually too plush for my purposes!I bought this and assumed based on the reviews, that it would be pretty thin, but since I already had an extremely plush pillow-top mattress, all I needed it for was to get rid of the annoying "plastic-y" sound that my waterproof mattress cover made. It's one of those new waterproof covers that seem normal (not at ALL like the old vinyl raincoat types), so the crinkly sound is extremely slight, but one I still found highly annoying every time I moved my arm or leg...Well, it succeeded in getting rid of the sound completely, but I was not prepared for it to actually BE overstuffed and boy is it ever! This would be perfect if you have a firm mattress that you're looking to make a bit more plush, or if you don't have a pillow-top on your bed already. And the ultra deluxe, microfiber feel of the fabric is really soft, even downright snuggly. You almost don't want to cover it with a sheet! It almost feels like a soft puppy... Although, if you use very thin silk sheets, you probably won't want this because it does have a slight texture to it, almost terry-like, which you might be able to feel through silk sheets...I have some musculo-skeletal issues and prefer my bed to be much softer and fluffier on top than most people, while still having enough support, so it takes a lot for me to think that a bed could be too plush... This mattress pad on top of my pillow-top is, dare I say it, just too much. It's more than sleeping on a cloud, it's sleeping on a cloud that's sitting on top of 2 down comforters. Which also makes it rather warm and very hard to get out of...Like I said, you should definitely get this if you're looking for a little padding on top of a firm mattress, or even if your pillow-top isn't as plush as you'd like, but if you're looking for just a soft, NON-waterproof cover to stop the crinkly sounds, this is NOT it! I would recommend the Sleep Tite by Malouf MATTRESS PAD Quilted Mattress Pad - Filled with Gelled Microfiber , because that one is definitely not overfilled, it's actually pretty thin. I know because a friend has it and as a matter of fact, that will be the next one I order to replace this one!

It's decent, but not 3" thick like they say
First off I do want to say that this is only about an 1 - 1 1/2" thick. They show 3" thick and it's nowhere close to that. I did however expect this after reading many of the reviews. It has added a lot more comfort to my mattress though. I do find I sleep better now. I wasn't disappointed because I knew what to expect. Had I not read the reviews and known it was going to be on the thin side I likely would have returned it. The description should be updated to specify that it's not 3" thick.Update:I've ordered 3 more of these for family members. I'm still sticking with my rating of 4 simply because of the description being different than the actual product. If the description were updated to show the true thickness of about 1 - 1 1/2" I would give it a 5 star rating. I have been happy with my purchase and my family members also love their toppers. If you're not expecting 3" thickness you won't be disappointed in the product.

Like sleeping on a cloud!
I’ve had this mattress pad before but needed a new one. Wonderfully comfortable and fits a fat mattress. I even have a foam mattress pad in my mattress and it still fits!! So glad I was able to find this mattress pad again. Definitely dry alone and on a low setting. Better yet, line dry. I had a little trouble with the backing start to come off from dryer heat.

Transforms a bed into a piece of heaven!
This far exceeded my expectations. It's perfect! I bought it for two reasons.1. To put on top of the Smart Air Bed (with its own memory foam top) that I bought along with this item to accommodate guests.2. To put on top of my memory foam mattress to resolve the heat retention issue that all memory foam mattresses have.It transformed my very comfy, top-rated memory foam mattress into a heavenly experience. I was stunned at how much of a difference it made. I used it on the air mattress because people who bought the same bed said that a good mattress pad would conceal the smell of the mattress (until it fades naturally). It worked like a charm. When my guests left, I put it on my own bed and wow!I definitely plan to buy another one to reserve for later. It's that good. I can't imagine that pricier pads would be any better. It's certainly a better sleeping experience than the pricey down feather bed topper I bought a few years ago.
