AMIGO Elfenland Board Game - Ages 10+ - 2-6 Players - 60 Min Playing Time

We love board games. We play fun ones and more serious ones like kingsburg and 7 wonders duel. And party games like Articulate and Men at work. Initially we thought games were cluedo and monopoly, then we played games at a friends house. First being ticket to ride, second being Elfinland. What is not to love. It's pretty, it's stressful, you have to plan your route around the map, there is strategy and luck and a real way to bugger you opponents turn. But the satisfaction of getting home with all your pieces is amazing. This is in me and my husband's top 3. No one who's played it at our game nights doesn't enjoy it. Buy buy buy

Being a fan of Ticket to Ride, a hugely popular game created by the same designer, I was naturally interested in Elfenland. This game, too, won the influential Spiel des Jahres award, though some years earlier than TTR. After playing it a few times, I understand exactly why it won - deservedly.This is basically a race-and-collect game. Players have to travel across Elfenland, visiting as many of its 20 cities as possible, using magical transportation: dragons, unicorns, giant pigs, elfcycles, troll wagons, magic clouds, ferries and rafts. But these only work in certain types of terrain - plains, mountains, deserts, forests, rivers and lakes, you can't always get hold of the transport you want, and other players' transport plans often interfere with yours. It's great fun, and highly replayable.The game components are excellent quality, with beautiful artwork on the board and magic transport cards. This is a strategy game that adults will love (unless they're into heavier strategy games exclusively), but the mechanics are so simple that your children should have no problem with it. It recommends age 10+, and that seems about right. Highly recommended.

This is a great game, which is one of my wife's favourites. The old version is now out of print, but this new version is just the same and comes in a smaller box (similar size to Carcassonne)
