The engraving continues throughout the top of the spine and ends in the traditional Laguiole fly at whose head the half engraved blade made from high quality 12C27 steel embraces. Models made from wood have handle scales which are inlayed with the symbol of the traditional shepherd’s cross. Horn belongs to the classic and original materials used in knife handles. It is a natural and renewable raw material. These days, however, breeding of hornless cattle is more common and horn is therefore becoming scarcer. The handles are polished by hand and therefore repel dirt quite well. However, horn stands rather poorly against humidity and should therefore be thoroughly dried after each cleaning. Similar to wood, horn can withstand alterations in temperature and humidity.
