what types of salts are acceptable?

I am not sure as to what salts are safe to use or not. I use the prepackaged sinus saline packets available at local pharmacy over the counter. Come in a box of 50-100 pre-measured packets, just add directed amount of PURIFIED water, not tap water, into a measuring cup, mix and use. Works great. Hope this helps.

Just my personal opinion: a lid would make it heavier, harder to hold while tipping over for the pour. Easier to manage just one part of an instrument rather than two. The lid would have to be engineered to stay on during the pour, also.
