HQC Barn Paint - Brown - 5 Litre Quick-Drying Outdoor Furniture & Garden Fence Wood Paint

Like most people, I really can’t bear painting! But this barn paint made the job more than bearable — it was actually enjoyable. We have an old transport train carriage that we use as a tool shed. It’s been badly neglected for years and was desperately in need of a fresh coat of paint. I’d never heard of barn paint before, so I assumed it would need a traditional gloss finish. That put me off tackling the job year after year. Then I stumbled across this product and decided to give it a try. Wow — what a difference! It goes on really easily, and the finish looks excellent. I was a bit worried when it first went on because it seemed a little light green, but once it dried (which happened surprisingly quickly), it darkened to exactly the colour I wanted. I’m genuinely pleased with the result. This paint made the whole project so much easier. I would definitely use it again!

Cover and opacity is great, and the colour matches the visuals and is pleasant to apply. Too early to comment of longevity, but so far so good.

Really impressed with this paint, when I first started to use it the colour was a lilac but it soon adopted a rich brown colour as ordered. It covered really well and one can was enough for the whole cabin. The building looks new and has been completely revitalised by this paint. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a quality paint. It's not cheap but it is excellent quality and I am pleased with the purchase and highly recommend it. 😀

Amazing Paint used for the first time went on really easy and only one coat needed. I would definitely use this again on all my jobs. Used off the shelf brands but this beats them all.

Fantastic quality Barn paint. Far superior to products like Cuprinol imho. This paint has thick consistency, and offers good coverage. To be honest, it is as good quality paint as indoor trade paint. The Ivory colour is great - very close to a pure white, but a little chalky, which is what we wanted. The finish to our new rough wood garden fence is excellent. The fence required two coats - the first coat was OK, but when we got the second coat on it made a massive difference, and the fence now looks superb. My advice would be to order more paint than you estimate, based on the advised square meter coverage. I painted this on with a 2" brush. Not sure how well it would work with a sprayer - might be too thick for that. The delivery time from HQC was good, so no complaints there. The paint is also made in Britain, which I like. Nice to support a British company. Not cheap, but in life you get what you pay for, and I think this paint was worth every penny. I highly recommend this paint - and HQC. Certainly gets top marks from me.

DO NOT BUY!!! This product was marketed as 'barn paint', however it is was just a generic multi-purpose paint for indoors/outdoors. The colour was not stated on the packaging - a sticker reading 'black barn paint' had been applied to the lid' - and when I opened the tin it was clear the paint was not black. I thought perhaps it would look different once applied, so I tried it and once dry it was a sort of dull midnight blue (see pic). Also, the coverage was very poor - I subsequently bought some actual barn paint from Toolstation and only one coat was required, but this stuff would have taken several. Very annoying - if I could give them zero stars I would - but at least the Amazon returns process was excellent.

This is the first time that I have used this paint and it will not be the last. In my opinion this is the best paint that I have used, over the last thirty five years, on an external wood fence. It flows onto the wood due to the excellent viscosity, covers extremely well and is true to colour,plus, it dries quickly to reveal a great finish. Where I was repainting some old fencing I used one coat and where I was painting new fencing I applied two coats, both, when dried, had a high quality finish. I always paint an outdoor fence using a paint brush as although it takes longer for each coat applied, it makess the paint go further and covers every nook and cranny with a better finish, however, I am sure that this paint would be effective whatever application method was used. Finally, we have had friends around for a BBQ since I painted the fence and they all made positive comments . I used the British Racing Green colour which blends nicely with the greenery in the garden but the colour pallet is wide and varied and would suit most people.

Great paint doesn't drop and gives great coverage. Our shed was old and had not been painted in years, two coats later and wow can't believe the difference. The paint goes a long way iv plenty left to do the side fence and gate.
