This fountain pen is wildly well designed and made for the price ($6 at the moment I bought it). This particular model has a snap-on cap rather than a screw cap, an important detail to know the first time you use it. The screw type ink holder seems very well designed (certainly better than the old school lever or squeeze designs), but I wanted to use cartridges, so I ordered the Jinhao cartridges here on Amz (they come directly from China and take about 10 days). the cartridges have a recessed front which you gently push forward onto the tube at the back of the nib unit until it gently pops into the cartridge; the recessed shape keeps ink from leaking. Getting a new, unused pen to start drawing ink can be tricky; the method I use is to pour some warm water from a teakettle into a cup and soak the nib with the ink well or cartridge attached for a minute, then dab the tip onto a napkin until I begin to see color. After that you can expend some ink scrawling nonsense or poetry onto scraps of paper until the ink is flowing. If you store the pen horizontally or tip down the ink will flow better when you go to use it. The design on this pen screams "this is my favorite crossword puzzle pen!", though you may want to buy the pencil or ballpoint version for that task...

I received this order 10 days ahead of schedule, which was a nice surprise. Spent the morning running it through the paces. The fine tip nib is indeed a fine tip. Writes smoothly without blotting, looks and feels as good as the pictures and the barrel has a slightly higher friction at the nib to prevent fingers from slipping. If I had to find something wrong it might be that the clip for holding the pen in your pocket is a bit strong and might damage weaker fabrics, but you can adjust that with a very slight bend from your pocket screwdriver. I would highly recommend this to any friend. It will make a great gift, comes in a nice little leather covered box, perfect for formal and informal presentations.

Gorgeous reasonably priced Jinhao fountain pen looks way better in person than on the screen. Pen comes with a free standard converter so you can fill it up with your favorite brand of ink. You will love this pen. People will ask to borrow this pen and you will say no!

Very bad pen. The nib was inverted when I received the pen. It is a waste of money.
