I love fountain pens and script writing
Being older, I come from a time when most people did use a pen or pencil of some sort to write with (before computers!). I have played around with script fonts on my computer and thought it would be fun to learn and practice calligraphy. This set truly has everything you need - several different width nibs, several ink cartridges as well as four pens. The set also include a small booklet on starting out practicing calligraphy as well as a booklet of practice paper. I am having fun seeing how fancy I can make lettering in different colored inks. Craftspeople would love this, a parent or grandparent spending time with their child or grandchild might find this a nice activity, and last, but not least, those planning a wedding and wanting to learn a skill they could use making handmade invitations, table name cards, and the like - this would be a great kit to learn with!

This is a SOLID way to determine if calligraphy/lettering is for you. Well worth the price!
I held off on reviewing until I had a good grasp of this set & what it has to offer. Someone said "you got what you paid for" and that is largely true. Don't expect this set to be the answer to your dreams of mastering calligraphy and hand lettering. It won't be. But it is a good jumping off point that plunges you into that handwriting world? Yes! It gave me the time to play with different nibs, different ink colors and styles. It also makes you VERY appreciable of that first quality pen when you buy it! Playing with this set I didn't become a calligraphy superstar but I did learn which nib sizes work better for my handwriting and that's a great thing. Now I know which direction I want to go and what things I didn't like. I'm not bitter like some are over this set. It costs 1/2 or less than 1/2 of what a cheaper good quality name brand pen costs. This set taught me to control different nib sizes and set me on the paths to getting what I really want. Does ink get jammed? Yes. Is it frustrating? Yes. Does my journal look like Sybil made the entries? Sometimes. But it's a learning process. So yes, it's cheap but How Much Did You Pay? I think for the price, this is a solid way to determine if you really want to proceed or if it's not the "hobby" for you. That alone saves you a lot of $$. I appreciate this set for lighting a fire in me for more. All in all...Worth More Than I Paid!!

Great For The Aspiring Scribe
I've done calligraphy a lot over the years but I didn't want to buy a new pen with nibs and inks and things so I picked up this kit. I think most people would appreciate the pen assortment, nibs, and inks that are included in this kit, especially young beginners. There are lots of inks in several different colors and 5 nibs to work with giving the user a nice, rounded calligraphy set to start with. There is also a little booklet explaining a few alphabets and a small practice pad. The pens are good looking, but plastic and not of the highest standard making this kit good for basic calligraphers or beginners. The reason for the four stars on my review is because one of my pens is leaking ink. There are still three other pens that work great but one is a little faulty. Otherwise, I highly recommend this set for the basic calligrapher who practices or is learning letters or doodling with the set. It's not a professional pen or inks set, but it is a great basic kit and it's a lot of fun. I am going to get several more kits for Christmas presents because I think my kids would really enjoy this. The tin to keep the pens and inks in is nice and very organized. For the price, this is a great pen and ink set. **I've noticed over time that these pens have to be treated a little delicately. If you do give these pens to teens or kids, make sure you explain how to use them. If they push too hard or misuse these pens, they won't hold up. I didn't want to take a star off for this, but I did want to note that these pens will not hold up if they aren't treated well. They will stop working or leak. A delicate hand is definitely needed making this product a little tricky for a person just starting out. Make sure you teach whoever, to not push down and how to use the pen the proper way or they will be disappointed. This is probably due to the low cost of this product, making it a good choice for a starter, but the pens can't tolerate much abuse.

Easy to use, good beginner set.
I've used fountain pens since I was learning to write over 60 years ago, and have always loved fountain pens and calligraphy pens. Sure the pens that are dipped into inkwells are easier to control for the artist, but these are a great value to see if you like using this kind of ink pen. It makes handwriting look fantastic. I've doodled with them for art, and yes, you can do real calligraphy with them. Bought a set for myself, and now bought another for a gift. The flow of the ink depends on how you hold the pen. Find your comfort place, and use. The various colors are included as is a little pamphlet about calligraphy.

Okay set with too many issues for reliant use
I had high hopes for this set, but these pens were troublesome to use. They may be nice for those who want to practice as beginners, but could also be frustrating to practice with compared to other calligraphy pens. The pen bodies feel like cheap plastic while seeming otherwise from first look. The set as a whole is impressive to look at and would be beautiful as a gift, but prove otherwise once you begin using them. The pressure needed to get ink flowing feels like it will be too much on the nib, even then the flow is not consistent. I've had several issues with keeping the flow of ink from the cartridges into the nib, even after rinsing out the nibs under water and keeping them clean. Several times I've had to tap the nib tip to get it flowing, and even then it often would still be clogged. I was sure to be consistent in keeping the nib clear with a clean rag, but to no success. Sometimes "violent" shaking would get the ink flow to return, but only for a short while. This was an extremely frustrating process. Hoping the flow issue was with the provided ink wells, I used others purchased from Joann's - same result. Only leakage I've had was result of thinking the cartridge was empty when the nib was not flowing and disassembling the pen to rinse. The provided instructions state to place a cartridge of ink in the upper cavity of the pen, however this is not necessary and if anything helps create a bigger mess if your current ink well is leaking. The cartridges that I have yet to use have had no leaking issues, making me wonder if those who've complained about them leaking are using them in pens and then removing them, expecting the ink wells to not leak.

Heartbroken as I'll ever be.
was very excited for this one and very disappointed right after testing em. Given it's a well known brand, never expected I'd be crying in vain. The packaging is flawlessly presented. Love its Tin Container. Overall Look is awesome. The Pens, even though they're plastic.. they look nice. 4 different color in their marble design. Underneath the tray is the practice pad and kit guide. Then trying the pens should've been the most enjoyable and the most rewarding part. Sadly it was the exact opposite. extra fine right when I put the nib down onto the paper I had a feeling this would be one disappointing purchase. this isn't even close to the fine nibs I have, how much more extra fine.. it's like medium. The one I used in the photo is a medium nib. fine this didn't even write at all! I noticed a bent on the left part of the nib, probably why the ink didn't even flow towards the tip at all. medium the nib writes perfectly well but I don't know if it's just the ink or what? if you look at the "today" photo.. it was very bleedy. but even the EF bleeds a bit when writing will try a diff. ink later to see if the prob. is the ink or the actual nib. broad used the orange ink, write pretty well.. although frustratingly, it feels more like a marker than a fountain pen. That's when I realized exactly what's entirely wrong.. it doesn't look and feel like a fountain pen.. I'm so brokenhearted. extra broad it writes but it gave me a real hard time. Just check the photos. I never wanted to write reviews like this.. but the expectation I had for the price and the brand just went on a crash landing. Sorry, but not even worth it.. can't even bother to return it.

Good bargain set
I got this to address wedding shower invitations. I’ve had expensive nibs and pens in the past and I wanted good results without the expense. This set delivered. The inks are light, but the cartridges are easy to install. The selection of nibs and the different pens were a plus when using different nibs/colors. Great starter set or for hobby crafters like me wanting nice results on small projects.
