Real good book

One of my favorites. I read this in high school and then was able to order it to share with my Grandson.

This book presents a clear history of US immigration law up to the early 1960s. Unfortunately, it does not discuss changes made during the Reagan and Clinton administrations which greatly influence today’s situation. The book also describes the history of immigrant groups coming to the US and the contributions they made. It breaks my heart that current attitudes toward immigrants are so at odds with the positive message offered in this book.

another book by other author of the same title exists. I had a hard time finding "A Nation of Immigrants" on Amazon .com written by John F.Kennedy. He was the grandson of Irish Immigrants like me. Great synopsis of how much the Irish love the U.S. and other immigrants. He gave The Irish credit for building/making the railroad ties/building bridges/doing the low pay jobs that current U>S> citizens wouldn't do in the 1840's and after. Irish people's priority was God,Jesus,Mary/St. Patrick/family/freedom from Cromwell's /Esex's bullets/buring of Irish Catholic Churches/burning Irish schools/shootin Irish Catholic Priests in the head or back./ Cromwell/Essex burned 3 million dollars in U.S. money. They were trees thousand of years old. Ireland is a country that's 10,000 old.The English crown is only 1,ooo years old. Our Irish ancestors knew what a crowned head did before England knew what a crown was. I had an English grandfather/an Anglican.Mom took me for a visit to The Republic of Ireland where we, as U>S> citizens wewr stranded by The Nazis'bombing of Europe.The English Crown rules like Machavellie's "The Prince" states.My Emglish grandfather made it clear to his many grown children and me he wouldn/t hesitate to use the "cat of nine tails" he kept hanging up. I was 3 years old.I could read,write and count great.My grandmother was a descendent of an Irish chief. My grandfather had an English name.All the Immigrants who came to theU.S. wanted to work without being beaten everyday.All of us Immigrant daughters were taught by our parents to respect other ethnic groups. Our parents/grandparents taught us to respect The U>S> and thank God for our freedoms. Fortunately my dad worked for The US> Gov. I told my grandad if he touched me with"The cat of 9tails" I'd go to the U.S.EMBASSY. Bought A Nation of Immigrants by John F.Kennedy from Amazon.com A woman wrote a book of the same title. A Nation of Immigrants was hard to find on Amazon by John F. Kennedy. Great info for all ethnic groups to read.

Great read about our country and the immigrants that built it.

This is the first review I have written of a book purchased on Amazon, and I have bought a many number of books. The reason I felt compelled to write is because, though some of his numbers are out of date, the themes, subject, and his pragmatic arguments are timeless. I found myself reading and smiling with disbelief with how relevant this whole book is and how beautifully entwined he mixes history with compassion and historical backing. When I read it I was impressed with how never ending and cyclical the immigration debate really is. The only thing that seems to change is what nationality or group is coming here and how people react to them. I highly recommend any and all people interested in this subject to read this book, which shouldn't take more than a few hours. I admire Kennedy a great deal and am grateful I bought and read this small treasure. While I was reading it I often found myself imagining and wishing he were across from me, coffee in hand, to discuss todays problems and his views on how to solve them.

This is an overview of the contributions of many ethnic and national immigrant groups to the USA. Don't expect to be inspired.

A sought after classic especially in modern world. The book was in great condition much better than I’d hoped for.

This is well summarized book about history of U.S. from a immigration point of view. No big deal to read, recommended to non native speakers who would like to know this country in the short period of time.

Very good book,written very easily, and simple to understand how America got to be so multi racial in this day and age.
