Saved my crashed PC's data & software
My crashed W7 HP box was irrecoverable, so I gutted it... and bought this bay to see if I could get back a ton of info and tools. I hooked up the bay to my newer W10 Dell box per instructions, slipped the old drive into the bay and VOILA! All the data was accessible as drive H: and I was able to restore functions and files and photo's and documents. SO RELIEVED! As an addendum, though... I also saw what probably caused the W7 to crash... for some weird reason on the old HD there are TWO copies of the C: (renamed H: now) drive.... not counting the Recovery drive. So unexplicably, the last Windows update on that old PC recreated what I call a "ghost" image of the whole C: drive *ON* the C: drive. Not cool. So I notice that any changes I make to one or the other H: drives automatically updates the other H: that's visible. Very weird. SO... I'm not going to attempt to delete one of the H: drives from the file manager until I've spent some time to completely back up the whole H: drive on the new box, and then I can wipe the H: drive and use it for a backup for the new PC. Suite. ...er, I mean, Sweet. :)Side note: Capacity rating on this review is useless, as the capacity of the bay is ZERO, it depends on the capacity of the HD you put in it.

it works, poor design though
i'm using this with a 10tb seagate, no problems. it was easy to install, but the design is dumb. the main button is in the back where the wires are. and the button is way to small for an adult sized finger. and the hole doesn't have a bezel around it. so your scrape your finger every time you push it in. the button should be bigger as well.it has a blue light and i think a pink one, but its so faint you can't see it.but mostly i marked the star down for the hollow nature of it. maybe its just that the drive is noisy, but this think amplifies the sound. maybe i should have gotten the toaster version of this thing, but i can hear every click and buzz that thing makes. it has no sound dampener in it. but that's the only issue i have, so far.

good product
I did receive the product as described, in perfect condition. the only issue I'm running into is that, with both my 2.5 sata drive and my 3.5 I am having issues. With the 3.5 my laptop, running windows 10, shows the drive in the manager but not in explorer (reads no media/cannot write to it), and the dock itself bends the pins on my hard drive (I had to bend them back in place.) With the 2.5, the led keeps blinking blue to indigo but it never shows up on my desktop. I am assuming it is not a issue with the product itself, besides the bending of the pins, and a corruption issue with the drives.

Does a good job, easily fits both drive sizes.
Quite easy to set up. Just plug and go. It easily fits both 2.5" and 3.5" drives. And this IS backwards compatible with USB 2.0, but that fact is nowhere to be found in the items description. One of the things I like about this docking station is, unlike some brands, this one allows for mounting the drive like you would normally install the drive in a computer or laptop, and not on its side pointing down. Only real "complaint" I would have is the power button. You gotta really give it a good push for it to click. Not excessive, but enough to be noticeable. Other than that, this is a great, affordable option for a docking station.

Identical to the PLUGABLE Discontinued Product.
In the past five years, I have purchased 15 of these devices. I have tried the various brands. Of the bunch, PLUGABLE was the best. The life expectancy was two years, and the company's customer service was stellar - equal to none..That firm does not sell this model anymore. So, I purchased the LIZTEK, based on the high user ratings. With the exception of the brand markings, the product looks identical to the discontinued PLUGABLE and performs just as well. For these reasons, the device deserves the highest rating. If problems occur in the future, my posting will be corrected.

Warning- no ventilation drive got hot
Got this to backup failing removed drive. I stopped after letting it just idle for 15 minutes, drive felt too hot. Now, drive is failing & drawing extra current making extra heat keep in mind. What i'll do it remove bottom of this & see if i can cut it off or cut hole & put fan.Other then that, it seems fine.

Stable item good price.
Using this to add space to NAS server. Having a internal drive as an external plugin to the NAS I'm able to keep this formatted NTFS and hot swap as needed back into my PC. Taking advantage of 6GB bus-speed updates then pop it back into the NAS.

Nice product
Nice simple dock for internal hard drives. Simple plug and play. Good transfer speed. Solid construction. First use of it was to transfer files off the hard drive from an old dead PC to a new laptop. I've done that before using hard drive enclosures that you had to take apart to switch the drive inside. This is a open SATA dock that you just slide the drive into.
