My application is a little unusual--I don't own a kayak or anything. I mounted these on my bed and use them to quickly tie down ropes that I can release equally quickly. I'll let you use your imagination about what the ropes are for. I am immensely pleased with this solution. I used washers and bought some stainless machine screws with nuts. I took one to the local big box store and found that #10-24 screws with tapered heads were a perfect fit (1 1/4" length for my application). I drilled holes and put washers on the back so it would all be more secure and it feels rock solid. These really work well for a quick tie down that is easy to adjust (no fiddly straps or other hardware). I love the system and my wife is a big fan, too.

I had these on my old boat for over twenty years . I now put them on my new boat. Never had one fail. 3/8 max rope. They suggest 1/4 machine screws but one size down sets flusher.

Quality product.Not sure if the extra price is worth it over the nylon type but these should last for years. Install was easy and a fast way to tie down rope. I am using 1/4 diameter rope but this will handle much larger.
