Rhyme and easy words for new readers
My oldest is five and going to start kindergarten this next fall. We are already working on him reading, and this is a great book for that. Lots of little words for beginners with a silly story line on each page. Every two pages rhyme with the other. He makes a cake for clowns, a mouse, a horse, an astronaut, and so many other characters. A new one for every page. Some cakes are tall, tiny, have a banana. Your kids will get a laugh out of every page with the animation.

So Many People to Make So Many Different Cakes For
This is a cute book about the different types of cakes Jake makes for a variety of people. The poem rhymes well and has a great rhythm. The illustrations are bright, colorful and full of character, while the illustrative style is a bit simplistic for my tastes, I doubt a toddler would care when he sees a witch flying on a broom with her cat at her back and both of them eating some pumpkin cake. At 34 pages it is long enough to get a wide variety of cakes and interesting characters. So indulge, get same milk and cake and peak through Jake's catalog of cakes.

Cute Book - Made Me Hungry, Though!
"Jake Bakes Cakes" by Gerald Hawksley appropriately is subtitled "A Silly Rhyming Children's Picture Book". Jake does indeed bake cakes of every sort. The story proceeds through a series of whimsical cakes Jake bakes, such as an upside down cake for acrobats, cheese cake for mice, carrot cake for rabbits, etc. Appropriate and silly illustrations accompany each type of cake and its associated rhymes. Some of the types of cakes are not necessarily real; for example, oat cakes for horses, and others. However, I am definitely NOT an expert authority on every type of cake made by every culture, so for all I know they may indeed be real cakes I have just never heard of!This is a cute story. Jake is certainly an imaginative baker! After reading this story to a child, it might be fun to see if the child can think up other types of cakes for special purposes, consistent with the story. This story has nothing objectionable in it, and is appropriate for all ages of pre-readers and early readers. I have no qualms about recommending this one for youngsters on your shopping list.

Cute and In Demand!
I downloaded this illustrated eBook last night to read to my son and daughter, who are 2 and 4 years old. They loved it, and as soon as we were done, we had to go back to the beginning and read it again! This morning, the first words out of my daughter's mouth when she woke up were "Jake Bakes Cakes" and we've already gone through the story again 3 times today! From a parent's perspective, the messages are delivered well in cute rhymes and the illustrations are terrific. We read a ton of children's books, and rarely do the kiddos demand a repeat immediately...so I know this one is a winner. Bravo!

Cute Kid's Book
I got this for my 2 Godchildren so I could have something to read to them. I think it's a cute book and very colorful. I think if you're wanting something quick and slightly entertaining for small children, this is probably a great choice.

Another great book by this author!
I think I am going to have to buy all of this author's books, as the little ones I have to read to will enjoy all of them, I am sure! I have Amazon Prime, so it was nice to be able to read this one for free. I downloaded the eBook on 01-02-2012 to my iPhone and the pictures lined up with the text.In my opinion, this author is worth the extra time spent trying to obtain a good copy of the book. My comment(s)under the reviews where the pictures did not line up with the text, I suggested they try redownloading the book: Try deleting the book from whatever device you are reading it on. after it is deleted, go to "My Account" and your "Manage my Kindle" page. Find the book from the list of books you have purchased. On the far right of the book's title there is a button labeled "actions" click on it, click on "download to" and click on the device (Kindle, PC, phone) you want it delivered to.(You can also contact Amazon Customer Service, as in my experience, they are very helpful!)

Decent Rhyming Book
This is my daughter's favorite book right now. It is your standard rhyming/pattern reader and one of the better ones. We both enjoy the illustrations. My only complaint, and my usual complaint with rhyme books is there is one page the rhythm is way different from the other pages and it didn't have to be. I read it differently to keep the pattern going. Also there is ONE page that has zero rhyming and it drives me nuts. Overall small complaints though. The book is cute and a favorite. This is one of the better rhyming stories we have discovered.
