Not really sure it works
Had a set that I was pretty sure worked, but lost most to an overzealous lawnmower. Got these but they don’t seem to be as effective, as new dirt piles keep showing up right next to the units. See my picture of 2 piles that weren’t there yesterday. Build is pretty lightweight, so make sure to dig the probe hole rather than just pushing these in to the ground.

UPDATED: These are terrible.
UPDATE #2:It's been about 3 months now and I wish these were designed better because they seem to work when they work. Out of the 4 I got, 2 died and 2 are still humming along (literally). I don't see any evidence of voles where I put them, but definitely evidence elsewhere. Its such a bummer that they are badly designed.UPDATE:After several weeks of use, I can honestly say that these are terrible. The frustrating thing is that they are somewhat effective at driving away the pests. I'd say that after several weeks, I have 80% less vole holes. The problem is that 3 of them out of the box are defective and emit their sonic tones constantly when in bright sunlight. (They are solar) - They are only supposed to emit a tone every 30 seconds. The second and fatal flaw in this, is that they fill up with water. I noticed almost immediately they were developing condensation on the inside of the lids and thought that would be a problem. I just picked one out of the ground and it had at least 4 ounces of water in it and was not working anymore. I severely regret this purchase. After 2 months only one is still working.===I just got a 4pk of these because we are having a major vole problem in our side yard. They have been installed a few days and from what I can tell they are working - There are no new holes, which was a daily occurrence before. The way these work is that they send out an audible tone every 30 seconds, from the pointed tip of the stake. This is supposed to annoy vermin enough to drive them away. The tone is not silent. It is very audible to humans if you are nearby, but it's not too annoying as long as you can't hear them from your living areas. Installing them ( burying them in the ground) does quiet the tone a little, because the tip is deep in the earth. But it is still a noticeable noise. The problem is within 24 hours of installing mine, 3 of the 4 started just producing this noise constantly. Instead of doing it at 30-second intervals, they are just constantly humming loudly. They are roughly 50' apart but standing in the area where they are installed is pretty annoying. I think it may have something to do with the heat from bright sunlight because I suspect these only "go haywire" during the day. I was out in that area yesterday evening and it seemed like they might have been operating on the 30-second interval again. It's too early to say whether this will seriously solve our pest problem but I'll update this review in a few weeks.

Tested by a retired engineer.
Yes, somebody with a degree in engineering and whose job it is to think very logically.First, within the ad there is the mention that these repellents are ultrasonic. That means the sound is above the human hearing range. It's a metallic electro-mechanical buzzer with moving parts and significant mass, for Pete's sake. It is NOT ultrasonic. So ... I tested four units from my last purchase, and three from a prior purchase, and I had five weeks of continuous testing using all of those (and more weeks accounting for the earlier purchase). And to be perfectly clear, my yard has moles and gophers, but no voles. And, since I had so many units, I could place them MUCH closer than recommended. Seeing that I couldn't realistically claim any success at first, I decided that there is a small chance that these critters will not move far (or perhaps not move at all) while they are taking care of their pups (which will leave the nest 33-days after being born). That said, not all the those rodents in my yard will have pups at the same time. In addition, during the entire test period, I continued to try and flood them out with hose and water under pressure every day. That probably wouldn't drown any adults, but it would probably eliminate a few pups as they drop off their mother as she scampers to get away from the water. And -- last but not least -- I didn't place any repellent near an active hole (indicated by a mound of dirt, which I would flush back into the hole using hose and water on a daily basis). That said, those critters managed to make new mounds of dirt right next to some of the repellents (where there were no mounds originally). So what is the best (spelled ONLY) way to get rid of those critters? Answer: traps. I have extensive experience with those. The best trap (and which you can buy at Amazon) is the Victor black box trap. Always buy them in pairs so you can place them back-to-back in an active tunnel. What's a non-active tunnel? Answer: one which is blocked in one direction because it is only used to push dirt out of an active tunnel. You can test for that by pushing in a short section of old hose to see if the tunnel continues in both directions. So dig a hole big enough for two traps placed back-to-back then cover the hole with a small board so no light gets in, and put something heavy over the board. By the next morning the deed will have been done. That process is virtually 100% effective every day until there are so few rodents left that you have trouble finding exactly where they are. In fact, last year I set four pairs of traps one day and had four dead rodents the next morning; then reset the traps that day and had four more dead rodents the following morning. What are my results with the solar repellents? Probably have twice as many rodents as I had a month ago.I'm giving this product one star because even a total failure has the value of being educational.

Interesting ....
I have never thought of "sound" to deter moles. However that is why I have a dog. anyways- I have just put these in my yard. I am hoping to get rid of these Cretans! I hate that all my time and money for putting in a lawn and seeding and fertilizing has created these mongrels' dinner table. I hope that by Christmas the fury bastards are gone.. If they are- am purchasing more for my front yard!!***UPDATE 1-12-2021***Well I am not very sold, even though I purchased an additional 4 , I have placed them in my front yard. but the original 4 I have now show two huge mounds, both next to one of these things! so I am not so sold...these furry little bastards are in for a full "CADDYSHACK" moment!!! Very very soon!!!****UPDATE 3/8/2021****IT WORKS - I have not seen a mound or one of the little ugly creatures in two full months. I think so far so good!!
