There’s never been a better time to discover the novels behind the blockbuster Starz original series Outlander . Blending rich historical fiction with riveting adventure and a truly epic love story, here are the first four books of Diana Gabaldon’s New York Times bestselling saga that introduced the world to the brilliant Claire Randall and valiant Highlander Jamie Fraser: OUTLANDER DRAGONFLY IN AMBER VOYAGER DRUMS OF AUTUMN Scottish Highlands, 1945. Claire Randall, a former British combat nurse, is just back from the war and reunited with her husband on a second honeymoon when she walks through a standing stone in one of the ancient circles that dot the British Isles. Suddenly she is a Sassenach—an “outlander”—in a Scotland torn by war and raiding clans in the year of Our Lord . . . 1743. Claire is catapulted into the intrigues of a world that threatens her life, and may shatter her heart. Marooned amid danger, passion, and violence, her only chance of safety lies in Jamie Fraser, a gallant young Scots warrior. What begins in compulsion becomes urgent need, and Claire finds herself torn between two very different men, in two irreconcilable lives. Praise for Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander novels “Marvelous and fantastic adventures, romance, sex . . . perfect escape reading.” — San Francisco Chronicle , on Outlander “History comes deliciously alive on the page.” —New York Daily News , on Outlander “Gabaldon is a born storyteller. . . . The pages practically turn themselves.” — The Arizona Republic , on Dragonfly in Amber “Triumphant . . . Her use of historical detail and a truly adult love story confirm Gabaldon as a superior writer.” — Publishers Weekly , on Voyager “Unforgettable characters . . . richly embroidered with historical detail.” — The Cincinnati Post , on Drums of Autumn Review: High-falutin' word choice, sometimes vexing, 100% worth reading - Five stars for a well-written story, a saucy "voice", and wonderfully-built/sympathetic characters. That said, I'm going to state what is probably going to be an unpopular opinion among fans: she often throws in big words that aren't necessary. Let me explain: sometimes, when there are three or four perfectly acceptable descriptors, she will choose a fifth that is so esoteric than even an English teacher has to pick up a dictionary. Writing "peregrinations", for instance, when ruminations, meanderings or even simple ponderings would have done quite well and satisfied an educated reader. There are times when I just say to myself (in a Scottish brogue, of course), "Keerist, woman. Put down the thesaurus, already, and come back to bed. I'm well and fully knackered." Also, don't nibble young pokeweed greens unless they have been repeatedly blanched. A pokeweed "salad" should not be raw unless you want GI troubles. I wish the author had done a little more research on medicine of the era. It's sometimes frustrating but not if you don't know. Just... Don't look at Claire's knowledge of folk healing as anything but fiction 😂 I would still read it again 😂 Edit to review the mechanics of paper and binding: mass paperback is much different from 20 years ago. It splits at the binding and pages fall out. Your fingers will turn black from the ink. It is still a bargain in this economy to pay $6 per book, and it is an enjoyable read. But if you know somebody with hot glue skills, it might be necessary. Just saying. Edit to add: she switched from first person to first and third. It is a little confusing because she'll start a section with "he" or "she" and you read a page or more before you know who she's following. I guess she writing for screenplay, now. Still good. Still five stars. Still worth the purchase to read. Review: Great books, great Author!!! - Im so excited and very happy with this purchase. The books arrived quickly and in great condition!! I almost didn't buy them as I've read a lot of not so good reviews. Glad I didn't listen!!! Some people said they didn't like how small the books where, I love it!, as I have small hands Would definitely recommend if your not sure about getting them. These books have a lot of explicit content and it could be triggering for some, some of the content but overall It is the Greatest Love and informational book series, i can't get enough of Diana Galbadon did such an amazing job with this series 👏🏽 🥰

No complaints here
Had to snag these with that prime day deal! Came as described the only thing is that it wasn’t specific about the size and the books are the smaller paperbacks. It doesn’t bother me, just an fyi for those that need their sets to match.

Loved the stories, but SO graphic
I started out watching on TV. About 3 episodes in my cheeks were flaming scarlet and I found myself wondering if it was TV nonsense to raise viewership and maybe the books would be more reasonable. Well... they weren't. If flagrant and seeming WAAAYYYY excessive and DETAILED sex scenes aren't for you, you may have to pass on this series. I read the books despite them, not for them. I found these stories to be so well told, the characters so compelling that I stuck with them and enjoyed them immensely. The only disappointment being that the last book wasn't ready yet when I was ready for it. Skill of writing and presentation of this particular world, beyond 5 of 5. Would I recommend them to others? Yes based on the story. But not without significant qualifiers and consideration of who I was recommending them to. But the stories are great.

The series and books were very good. I gave it a 4 for the quality of the book's not the series.
The book's are small as is the writing. My husband found pages falling out. You have to open the book wider in order to see all the words. We saw the series and now he is reading the books. The books are very good.

What a saga!!!
I love to read. But I love to read to escape and travel around the world and through time. So After watching the show, I checked out the books from the library. I have now purchased my own copies as I have loved the stories so so much. My usual Authors include Nora Roberts, Cassandra Clare, Debbie Macomber, Charlaine Harris, and I even liked the Stephanie Meyers books. I read for entertainment most often. Yes I love romance, But I also love detective stories, and really like the Richard Castle books. So on to the Outlander box set. I have read some of the reviews that people were shocked and horrified by Jamie Spanking Claire, about the rape scenes, and the sexual violence. Well, While they are not my favorite, That is the history of the world. These things actually happened back then. Back in that time period, Women were supposed to be subservient, and the Men doled out punishment. While Claire is a woman out of time, she has a whole other set of values. She is a woman from the 20th Century, thrust into the 18th century. Where women from the 20th century are not generally afraid of men or wary of them, especially a wartime nurse, the average woman in the 18th century were taught to be wary of men. So based on those items, I found it fascinating that she stood up to the men, and expected to be treated as an equal, and refused to be subservient to them. I loved that Diana intermixed history with a really good story. Each subsequent book has gotten better and better, adding more colorful characters and situations. With the outlander story, we see Claire doing her best to get back to her own time, until she realizes she truly loves Jaime and would rather stay with him than to go back to her own time. So If you go into the book with realizing that the 18th century is vastly different from the 20th century in the way they treat women then you will enjoy this book series.

Good read but pages are falling out of paperbacks and edges frayed.
The books are a great read. I've enjoyed them The only thing is ive read 3 and each one has pages falling out. I wanted to collect all of the books, I just wish the paperbacks were durable. Loved the series and the story. If anyone knows how we could have the books rebound for the pages that have fallen out, I would welcome the suggestions. I have a kindle, but I just love books.

Some damage on one book, still a great deal!
The first book had a rip in its cover, nothing too bad. Writing is small but I think that is for all of the series books, no matter the seller. I havent read all of them yet but no visible damage on the other three.

Great buy!
My Outlander boxed set arrived today and I'm so glad I wasn't put off by the first three negative reviews on here. The books are quite small but easy to hold while reading. The print is also quite small but not unreadable or tiring for the eyes ,and the paper quality is fine ,I just can't understand the comments of the other reviewers. All in all , a great buy. I didn't know the books at all before I started watching Outlander on Amazon Prime , now I'm hooked !

Edizione comoda
