Dick FriesenBeginning Gemstone and Jewelry Carving

I received rock carving lessons from Dick Friesen and he is an awesome instructor! I've been waiting for this book to come out. However, I am a little disappointed because I expected it to include the 'patterns' you can make in a slab with ALL the different bur bit sizes and shapes. In class we only used the discs. Instead of having to waste a slap (and the diamond burs) experimenting to see what kinds of cuts all the other burs make, I would have loved for this book to have shown all the bur cut patterns that can be made and how to use them.

I got to take a class with Dick Friessen last year. He's a great teacher. This book is a big help in reminding me of the basic steps I need to take. I've read it through and although I haven't had a chance to start carving yet, the book has spurred my interest. I'm looking forward to having some time to sit and carve. I agree with the other commenter that a picture of thecuts that different burrs make would have been helpful. But, that's something I can do myself. Maybe that will be my first "project."
