Strainer for fruit or tea infused water
I was looking for something more practical to strain cold brew loose tea and this is perfect! I try to stay away from plastic as much as possible. Couldn't find a silicone alternative as a lid and didn't want to bother with rusting metal lids. I didn't want a plastic or metal strainer constantly sitting in the water either. I was hesitant since it's for kefir, but gave it a shot anyway. So glad I did! They're pricey for my liking, but i do like them so far. This should work for all chunkyer loose tea leaves or even fruits and herbs :) wholes are too big for powdered like teas.

Great for Potato Flake Sourdough Starter!
My Mom passed these on to me - she had purchased for making milk kefir and the holes were not big enough to strain easily. However, I have been using them for my potato flake sourdough starter and love it!! I've since bought more lids, to include when I give extra starter away. Potato flake starter doesn't need to be strained, but it does need constant air flow. I keep it in my fridge with the top translucent lid in the "open" position which works great to let air in but keep unwanted things out. When my starter is on the countertop for a feed, after I have added the feeding liquid, I put the colorful lid on without the translucent top lid to allow for maximum airflow. Again, perfect for letting air in but keeping everything else out! I absolutely love these lids for my starter! I wish there was a version with larger holes for milk kefir, too! It would be so convenient.

Clever, but won't survive daily use for the long term and not necessarily well sealed when closed.
I bought a two-pack of these fermentation caps and am now using both of them daily, for making water kefier and milk kefir. It's a clever design: screw the colored part tightly onto your mason jar (wide mouth), and align three little grooves on the semi-transparent top with matching places on the colored filtration lid. Turn the top cap one direction and the jar is (mostly) sealed. Turn it the other direction, and there is about a 1/8" opening to allow air flow during aerobic fermentation. My only disapointment with these lids is that they don't necessarily seal when closed. So if you want to, say, invert your kefir to see how it's coming along, you may have a mess on your hands (I say "may" and "necessarily" because one of mine still seals OK, and the other doesn't.) Over time with daily use, I suspect neither will seal well. The top lid is pretty flimsy, and I expect it to get deformed eventually, even the one that seals well now. It IS a clever design. With water kefir grains, which are large, I can simply take off the top lid and pour out the finished kefir, leaving the grains behind. I can even add new sugar water without removing the filtration lid if I'm careful. I lose the tiny new grains when I do it this way; the filter isn't fine enough to catch them. And it won't catch milk kefir grains except for very large clumps, which I understand represent the oldest cells. So...high ratings for design, moderate ratings for execution.

Kefir Made Easy
Works as described. It has really made Kefir starting very easy. Well made and nicely fits wide mouth mason jars.

Needs bigger holes to work for milk kefir
I think this would be great for water kefir, which is of a thinner consistency, being just sugar water, and with smaller grains that don't clump together or create curds. Unfortunately, I've been trying to use it for a couple of days with my milk kefir, and it's frustrating enough I'm not sure I'll keep it. Milk is thicker than water, and thicker still once fermented. The grains themselves are somewhat big, they tend to clump together, and the milk forms a certain amount of curds when culturing. This is an ingenious setup, enabling you to twist the lid slightly open while the ferment is active, then closed for storing or shaking (my attempt to break things up to enable better straining) and is entirely removable for straining and pouring. But that's where the difficulty comes in--straining and pouring. Cultured milk kefir does not easily flow through these very small holes, especially as they are instantly blocked by the grains and curds that surround the grains. I tried closing the unit and shaking hard to break it all up, but I still find I need to pour a bit out, pull back and shake it more or rap it against the counter to dislodge everything blocking the filter, then pour/shake some more out, etc. I need to do this a whole bunch of times even when I only have a cup or two of milk, and my kefir is not over-fermented. This really needs bigger holes.

Better than getting a Kefirko!
I love it! I didn’t have to use a separate strainer to make my water kefir. Straight from my jar to the bottle. I found the white cover a bit tricky to open at first as it gets stuck but I figured out how it actually works and didn’t have anymore issues. I have a 2L wide mouth mason jar pitcher and i have used the cover for the juice i made as well. As long as you have any size mason type glasses or jars, this will definitely be better than buying an expensive Kefirko.

The Strainers Block up Too Easily
I bought the jars to go with the strainers thinking things were going to be simpler than using a handheld strainer; not so, the strainers block up really easily and you can't get the kefir out. When a handheld strainer blocks up, you use a spoon or spatula to move the grains around to get things flowing; you cannot do this from the inside of the jar, all the jars and strainer kits are left on the shelf unused.

Very useful
Very handy and useful in making Kefir. Fits standard Mason jar securly and with rubber seal inside, there are no leaks or spills. The lid opens to either remove completely (when pouring) or when making kefir - giving the required air without allowing dust or any contaminant into the jar. Pouring from the jar is very easy, by removing the opaque cap - and it strains at the same time. Very easy to clean Highly recommend

Pleased with these.
I’ve used for cultivating kombucha style ginger beer plant and they are good for the purpose. I’d say not so suitable for say milk kefir. I like the open close mechanism and the ability to strain. But they are expensive for what they are.

Perfectos
