Crosman 2240 Bolt Action CO2-Powered .22 Pistol

Got this last night, read the manual. I read every manual for every product I get, no matter how familiar I am with another similar product, there is almost always one or two things I needed to learn from reading the manual. This pistol has a Co2 chamber that is right below the barrel. The larger cylinder is where the Co2 is housed. It was Very simple to load the cartridge. Much easier and safer than a pistol I had used in the past.I put a dot of oil on the top of the cartridge where it was to be pierced, like it said to, I then held the cartridge with the end that was to be pierced straight up and slid it into the gun which was pointing down. I figured this way the oil wouldn't drip off the end of the cartridge, and it seemed to work. I just threaded it finger tight, like the manual said to and it worked the first time.I shot it the first time from 15 feet away and was 1-1/2 inch away from the dead center of the bulls-eye. My second shot was so close to dead center of the bulls-eye that about half the hole was in the dead center of the bulls-eye from 15 feet. I am shooting free hand, and in my shed. It is about 17 feet long, with a good back stop and all my shots are within 1-1/2 inches of the bulls-eye or in the bulls-eye. I know that is close shooting, but I have to set up an outdoor target/range to shoot outside from greater distances. But the pistol has great trigger action, I can pull it about 1/16th of an inch and know that 1/32 more will fire it. It is pretty smooth too. The safety holds the trigger pretty securely from what I can tell. Don't see a problem with it failing, and the gun has a lot of metal, not all plastic, though the handle grips are plastic, it is a sturdy pistol.The sights come with an option. You can either make the rear sight a peep site, by unscrewing it and flipping it over, or you can adjust it both up and down, left and right. I also put a drop, small drop, of oil in the breech like it says to in the manual. I would highly recommend that you do this to lubricate the barrel, but I need to call Crosman to see how often to do this. I put a very, very small drop of oil on both sides of the trigger, while holding the gun upside down because the trigger's hinge is at the top of the trigger. But I didn't see anywhere else that needed lubrication.Don't forget to get a cleaning kit too. I still need one. I figured I could just use the .22 Cal snake that I used for my .22 Cal. bullet firearm, but the weight that pulls it through the barrel is too long for the breech of this pistol. I will contact Crosman to see if I can just use a wire brush that I have from my .22 Cal rifle cleaning kit or if I will need a special one.Over all, I am very pleased with the Co2 Pellet Pistol. It is pretty powerful for being Co2, rather accurate as I am hitting what I am pointed at, haven't had any flyers, using the Crosman Hollow Point Hunting Pellets. Oh, and the manual says you need to use the Copper Head 12g Co2 Cartridges for some reason. I want to call Crosman to ask why.

I had one already (over ten years old) so I already knew about it's accuracy and I wanted another CO2 pellet gun to train my daughter (6). I looked at every pellet gun on Amazon and the 2240 had all the features I wanted. I needed a single shot bolt action (new shooter safety) I needed a platform that I could modify to the purpose (10 meter training open sight). I wanted a platform that was fully supported with a range of upgrades I could implement as my little Olympic Shooter improved. Out of the box the gun needs some love. Apparently Crosman has dialed down their quality control a few notches. The barrel had no crown! Just lopped off with a rough sanding then dumped into the bluing...sad really...because what sets this gun apart is it's potential for extreme accuracy (with a properly manufactured barrel). Out of the box the trigger feels sloppy and gritty and the cocking action is stiff and gritty. This is when it helps to like tinkering...all you need to do is some amateur gunsmithing...polish and deburr...clean an lube...and the action can be dialed in to feel like a real gun,And of course there is the fun of actually shooting it...and if you are a marksman you will be very disappointed if you receive a barrel with no crown that is incapable of tight groups. The barrel on my old 2240 was vastly superior...shooting the guns side by side ti became clear my little markswoman would be receiving my older more accurate gun so she could actually learn how to group her shots. I decided to take the new 2240 and upgrade it. First improvement a 14.5: barrel from the factory with a perfect crown. That was the best money spent on the gun...even with the plastic breech the shot groupings improved. Plastic on a target pistol annoys me so I made my own grips. Then I decided to try out a steel breech. It's a big expense...costs as much as the gun itself...but it turned out to be a good decision. Shot groups are much better than with the plastic breech.The gun is so much fun to play with and modify I decided to make my own removable stock, but TBH the 1399 Backpacker is a great stock for the money. With the stock the "carbine" begged a proper scope. To take advantage of the greater range of the optics I installed a stiffer hammer spring and modified the power valve to increase flow and charge capacity. At this point I am able to shoot about 25 shots per cartridge out to 75 yards and hit a 6" steel, or I can put pellet after pellet through a single ragged hole at about 15 yards.Once you get rid of all the plastic bits the gun is much nicer...but out of the box it it a fun plinker. The main reason this gun sells so well is because it is a great platform and can be upgraded into a several hundred dollar match pistol or even a carbine.

I was honestly expecting to get something similar to the first airgun I had owned as a kid. Fun to shoot, but clunky, wobbly, cheaply made, but nevertheless, a fun short lived time for the money. This one took me by surprise. I would have thought it to be, well, not nearly as loud (which is definitely good thing in my case), solid, acurate, powerful, and just a joy to hold in my hand. Honestly, the reviews are what had led me to this gun, so I was expecting something solid, though I still suspected my expectations would fall short ever so slightly, as they almost always do. Loading one shot at a time is not nearly as inconvenient as I had expected, as I plan to upgrade to a magazine at some point. Loading this thing is kinda fun, actually. Plus it helps conserve ammo. (I can get a little impulsive and trigger happy at times.) Given it has so much potential for upgrades, adds a whole new dimension for creativity. That was the bingo for me. Still awesome enough to fire stock alone. I'm In no rush to upgrade at this time. Though this is the "Tinkerers Airgun." (That was my gig in Fallout btw.) Only thing I didn't like was the plastic handle and trigger guard, which held no weight compared to the rest of the gun. Again, upgrades. I also feel like the breech was either catered to lefty's, or it's just me. Anyway, awesome gun. These "problems" were too minute to affect my rating though. Very satisfied with it. It took over a week to get to my house, but for completely understandable reasons. It makes this whole social distancing thing that much better.

Good quality. Fun to shoot. Only negative is it’s loud. I ordered a sound suppressor from a place in Texas, haven’t received it yet. Otherwise good gun and would buy again.
