Largely career-based
Ice Cube has done a commendable job of keeping his private life private and this neutral, objective commentary on his moves and shakes in the industry is as close as you're going to get to understanding the man behind the music. It had more commentary and descriptions on the songs on the album than I would have liked. And there were some dubious references such as when he stated that Biggie Smalls' wife Faith Evans was on the scene when he was shot (she was at a different location) which makes me a bit doubtful about the veracity of his research and opinions. That said, it provides a useful historical context in which to understand Ice Cube's rise in the industry and success in music and movies. In addition to some information about the relevant players at the time such as Easy E and Dre. But the mystique of Ice Cube and NWA remains. What stands out most about this bio though is his strength and savvy as a person and businessman and largely reserved persona. Not too many salacious details here at all and not much of a tell-all. But maybe that's just Ice.

Surprising read
Not being a fan of rap in any way, shape or form I opened this book w/ a pretty closed mind. As I turned the pages, I found Ice Cube to be much more than just a rapper. The author does anexcellent job of portraying the man's life not only in regards to his music but his work as an actor, writer & director. Through Mr. McGiver's words, I discovered what a hard working, determined & intelligent man Ice Cube is. This is a great source of information for Cube fans & a good read even for those who don't care for his music. Well done Mr. McGiver! This book was interesting enough to keep my attention despite the fact that I had absolutely no interest in the man before I turned the 1st page.

Here we go again
This is another attempt by a guy who always raps about being shot at and killing people and whatever but is still alive and making childrens films. Not really that hardcore huh. It is no suprise then, that we see, this guy pull yet another marketing scheme where he gets someone to lie, embellish and make up facts to make you think that ice-cube is a tough guy.I reckon he could sell ice-cubes to the eskimos. If you want to know about his life, I suggest you go to his mansion somewhere in Beverley Hills, ring his dora the explorer doorbell and have high tea with him out on the terrace.just cos he frowns a lot and makes up hardcore stories doesn't mean he lives it. He is an actor and is portraying a character to everyone and getting away with it.wake up everyone, this is what mcdonalds and politicians have been selling you all your life. Don't buy into it, take a stand today.

So glad I did
If you are at all interested in rap culture, buy this book now! I originally wanted Dr. Dre's biography, but this was cheaper and qualified for prime. So glad I did. It's an excellent read. I like how Joel McIver explains the social and cultural context of Ice Cube's story instead of just a play by play of his life.

We had to tear this MF up!!!
