A lifesaver for damaged odd sized bolts and studs
Worked awesome for repairing the threads on my power steering gearbox. I was able to use it even in the tight space on the truck without having disconnect the power steering lines. Some of the damage had been there for a while and some I added with a few gentle taps with a 10lb sledge after gentler methods failed to remove the pitman arm. A few minutes work with the file saved me from having to buy a new gearbox. I have other thread restorers and dies but for odd sizes its a lifesaver, sure I could have bought a 7/8-14 die but would I ever use it again? This was also cheaper. Since then I have used it to clean up after cutting bolts and threaded rod to length and it sure is a time saver.

Much better than Lang!
This file does the job nicely! I needed a file to repair some 14 tpi pipe threads. I had made the mistake of trying to save some money by buying a set of Lang files, but the teeth on the 14 tpi file were so shallow they were useless. THIS file made by Nicholson is perfect! I've uploaded some photos so you can see the huge difference between the two brands. After using this file I was finally able to thread the pipe together! If I ever need to buy another one of these, I'm definitely sticking with this brand.

Nicholson brand is the best
-IF- You know how to use a thread file aka thread chaser properly Nicholson makes the best. They are sharp but not too sharp to cut rather than repair. Long lasting and fit very well in the hand. I have used these both at home and professionally. Great for use on awkward thread pitch/shank ratios. For instance the worm threads on a outboard engine for boats. The threads on the worm drive are very fine for the shaft size. A thread chaser is leaps and bounds cheaper than the exact sized die (which is not needed and also very hard to find.)

Right tool for the right job
If you have bad threads, don't "chase them with a die or a tap; they are design to cut threads (ok, might help to clean the gunk off threads but you are still better off modifying a bolt or nut) not fix them. I had a pipe whose threads were crushed because it felt on its threads and could not replace it since the original European manufacturer did not have them nor did aftermarket (classic ,otorcycle and car owners know exactly what I am talking about). A bit of patience instead of caveman (hence my username) touch and it looked perfect... besides missing a bit of paint (who paints threads to begin with?). Since then I made sure to have both metric and SAE set. Better be prepared than sorry.
