Still another great adventure despite it's flaws.
This is Shere Khan. Bringing you a review for Pirates of the Caribbean 3: At World's End blu-ray/dvd package, recently I did one for the second film Dead Man's Chest, which as I said in that review, it was amazing and worthy sequel to the Pirates of the Caribbean series. This one, being the third installment, I have to say is also excellent, I would have to say right after the Curse of the Black Pearl, it is the fourth best in the series right before the fifth film that recently came out, that happens to be my last favorite of them all, though don't expect a review from me for that, because I have no plans to buy it cuz I'm not exactly a fan of that film. The plot is really hectic and requires audience members to pay extra close attention if they wish to follow what is going on. A basic summary of the film: Will Turner (Orlando Bloom), Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley), and the rest of Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp)'s crew with the aid of the recently resurrected Captain Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) take a venture to Davy Jones' Locker after passing through Singapore and traveling to the World's End, basically the entrance to the land of the dead to rescue the fallen Captain Sparrow after his grim fate by the Kraken. Each has their own reason for doing so: Barbossa wants Jack back to assemble the legendary Bretheren Court of Pirate Lords with him, Will desires the Black Pearl to free his father Bootstrap Bill from the Dutchman's curse, and Elizabeth couldn't live with herself after she let Jack die at the end of the 2nd film. Afterwards, they all assemble with all the Pirate Lords throughout the sea to determine the fate of all pirates as the new threat of the East India Trading Company, who are in possession of the heart of Davy Jones therefore have control over Jones himself, seek to end Piracy once and for all. Pirates 3 is a worthy sequel to Dead Man's Chest in in of itself, that is if you don't let the film's habit of throwing in random plot point after the other bother you. Yes, apparently Jack Sparrow and Barbossa are Pirate Lords? Yeah there's a Bretheren Court of pirates apparently. The one scene in the film that is the silliest and most random part is the releasing of the sea goddess Calypso, who is revealed to be Tia Dalma, who is also the lover of Davy Jones. That scene is always weird to see, the way they did it was interesting but silly too. Throughout the film, there are constant deals happening from all sides, betrayals, and it's enough to make somebody wonder is there no end to the conflict. It can really be a tiring process to sit through. However, the film, just like the rest of them, is still an awesome, fun, swashbuckling adventure with many great action sequences. The highlight has got to be the epic maelstrom final battle with the Black Pearl vs. The Flying Dutchman, the crews of the Pearl and the Dutchman fighting agaisnt one another, Barbossa cackling for his own pleasure at the helm as the battle rages on, Will and Eliabeth of course getting married during the war, which is sweet but unrealistic as it happens. Jack's fight with Davy Jones is a phenomanal duel and final confrontation. The humor is always great and the characters are fun to watch over and over again, particularly all the scenes with Sparrow and Barbossa bickering with one another are the BEST. LET'S face it, those two are the faces of the series. That's all I really have to say about the film. I give it a five star rating because for what it is, it's amazing. And I'm not too difficult to please when it comes to Pirates of the Caribbean. If you're a fan of the films like me, Shere Khan, you'll enjoy it fully. If not, the minute the Locker scene with Jack Sparrow talking to hundreds of hallucinations of himself comes on, it will cause you to turn the TV off instantly. The delivery was successful and both the discs look great and work just the way I wanted them too :)This is it for now. Until next time. Happy shopping! .

The Juice Keeps Pumping and I Know Why
You've got to hand it to Ted Elliot and Terry Rossio. They are a winning team of writers with a pretty good resume of flicks that they've combined on. They did the first two Pirates movies and are together again for 2007's Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End.And all of the key characters from Curse of the Black Pearl (2003) and Dead Man's Chest (2006) are back in At World's End played by the same actors...with the same director (Gore Verbinski). Those are usually the most important ingredients to a successful sequel. The special effects are great. The movies are visually spectacular from ghosts to sea monsters to at-sea adventure...I'd say the amazing effects actually contribute a full star to all of the Pirates movies in this series. There's lots of silliness in the Pirates movies, but it's deliberate. There's slapstick. There are death-defying feats. There's Johnny Depp (Captain Jack Sparrow) doing his best imitation of Keith Richards (true factoid, he has publicly commented that Richards is his Jack Sparrow character inspiration...anyone notice who played Captain Teague?). And all the silliness mostly works. After all, this is indeed supposed to be a movie for kids too, no?It's must be tough to make a PG movie these days; it's hard to believe that this Disney theme park ride turned billion dollar movie franchise is getting PG-13 treatment. Kids 13 and under can see more violence and hear more profanity at school recess and at the local playground than they do in Pirates. How is it that a movie like National Treasure (2004) gets PG and Pirates doesn't? Ludicrous. But I won't get started on how neurotically insane the pressure is from certain groups on the MPAA to "protect" our youngsters.I will indeed finish by saying that the Pirates series will gross over $1,000,000,000 (that's a BILLION dollars) because they're good movies that kids can watch too. They're certainly not the best two movies in the world; in fact, At World's End and Dead Man's Chest are probably more between a 3 and 4 star rating than the solid 4 star that Curse of the Black Pearl would earn alone. But numbers don't lie. People are drawn to this franchise. I am drawn to this franchise. As Davy Jones says, "One soul is not equal to another." So describes my view of the MPAA rating system to the next guy's, and so analogizes my opinion of Curse of the Black Pearl versus Dead Man's Chest and At World's End. Bottom line: all three movies offer like 7 hours of time that can be spent nuzzling up with your kids. Hence, my recommendation: add the Pirates series to your cart.

Johnny Deep
Pirates des caraïbes ne seraient pas aussi magique sans Johnny Deep. Excellent film mélangeant l'humour, l'action et le savoir faire. A voir absolument.
