Works well in my boat application.
I purchased this pump as a replacement on my 2003 Supra Santera with electronic fuel injection. We were experiencing alternating power loss and surge at high rpms under load. Replacing the old pump completely fixed the problem. Ease of installation depends a lot on your application. On my boat it's a bit challenging, but not too bad.The Amazon listing for this part calls it an "In-Tank" fuel pump. Carter's own website explicitly says it is not. I was totally confused by the listing and had to do some research to clarify before buying.I noticed in the other reviews that a few people had trouble with the lead wire retention approach. It took me a while to figure it out. The assembly instructions are not very clear. There is a shallow wide slot in the metal housing directly under the plastic insulator where the lead wires are attached. Check out the pictures. I wound up using needle-nosed pliers to push the retention clip into the slot. Once seated, it seems to be a solid retention method.

Great fuel pump
My pump came with all the needed hardware. I read a few reviews before buying. I replaced my boat's mechanical fuel pump because two summers in a row the pump failed! My boat engine is a 351W so not a lot of room to do the install. I lock wired the terminal holder in place and reshaped it to hold the electrical connectors on. If you turn the pump up upside down you will find the +/- markings. My carter pump is very quiet, but of course with the V-8 running, who cares about fuel pump noise!!! Hopefully this helps someone who is on the fence about purchasing and or converting over to the12V (P4389).

Direct Replacement for 2003 Supra 22SSV
I used this pump on my 2003 Supra 22SSV wakeboard boat. Identical to original pump. Apparently these boats do not use a filter before the pump. The inlet screen on the original pump appeared to be plugged almost solid. I could hardly blow any air through it. I plan to change the entire fuel line and add a filter. I could not tell the difference between this model and the P4594. I called Carter and the very knowledgeable representative said the P4594 comes with barb fittings, has a slightly lower pressure rating, and the corrosion protection coating is not as good as the P4389. Other than that he said the pumps are identical.

Failed
Both failed to push gas to the carburetor. Replaced with Holley fuel pumps

Good quality fuel pump
I use 2 of these pumps for a fuel polishing machine of my own making. The pumps move the diesel through a pair of Racor 500 filter/separator units. The pumps are quiet and deliver fuel consistantly with low amp draw. They do all I could ask of them.

Worked great
This was to replace another Carter Electric Fuel Pump that was installed 3 years ago by a boat mechanic. I thought 3 years was pretty short for a fuel pump, but decided to replace it with another anyhow. I did this myself and it was a very easy install. We will see how long this one lasts.

Easy to install, works well
The item installed very easily. I've only had it in the boat for one trip to the river. At this point, 3 hours of use and it works fine. One note, the connectors rattled loose, you may want to secure them with an additional strap to insure they don't fall off while driving. This happened to me, but once I resecured them, it fired up and works fine. Hoping to get a few years of use out of this item.
